Quite a few people actually, Bea's tone is quite fuzzy and boomy in the low end, not really suited for tight djent tones that the apex is aiming for.
I loved the demo but (don't want to be this person) but I wish we could of heard it through an effect loop return rater being stacked on top of the EQ from the kraken or through a clean low gain amp to see how it would react. Otherwise I hope some of the riff you played in the demo are on Fire by the Silos!
I just checked it out next to a Ceres on my channel...as a lot of us expected, these folks used them into channels of amps and such because this thing needs A LOT of help to sound decent.

I swear if your channel was nothing but these pedal demos and your original music with Toska you wouldn't hear a complaint from me. Then again, I love everything you put out, but I love these videos so much.
Pretty cool little preamp but I must say that the Kraken V4 preamp crushes it in terms of note definition, clarity and saturation. I also realize it's not an apples for apples comparison.

Correct me if im wrong but if you plug this into the return of your amp you could basically just use this as your amp. so wah compressor and overdrive infront of the Apex in the signal chain and then after you would have your chorus delay reverb etc, and then plug all that into the return of the amp you have. so you can have all these pedals but you wont have to plug the modulation and time effects into an effects loop because they are after the Apex in the signal chain. hope this makes sense.

Apex + invective MH would be the best sounding in my opinion, but the best sound for the price would probably be the apex + boss katana head.

I love how Rabbea just has 5150s, Marshalls, and Victorys just stacked up hanging out in the back and he's just casually using a Kemper as a table for this pedal. This is the level I wish to be at someday.
Hahah, well, the 5150’s and Marshall I collected over the years way before UA-cam. In old bands etc, lending to mates and getting them back. But yeah the victory stuff and the kemper came much later. I’m genuinely thankful and lucky to have the gear, and wouldn’t dream of taking it for granted. Thanks for watching dude!

This pedal is great if you feel like paying for $120 more for an already existing pedal with just adding cab sim which doesn’t really feel or sound worth it honestly for being $320 the MXR 5150 pedal is literally the same thing played side by side they sound the same and there is a $120 price difference for $80 more you can get the KSR Ceres which not only sounds better for djenty tones but has 3 channels instead of basically 1 with a boost option

Sounds great! I'd be interested to know what it's like going into the FX return of an amp, or into one of the modern solid state power amps like the SD Powerstage. Wonder if the pedal reacts very differently that way as opposed to in front of an amplifiers already existing preamp section - as Ola proved in one of his recent vids.
They sound really good in an FX loop. Well, the 5150 OD does, and this is essentially the same thing so im assuming this sounds similar.

In general it's better to check. I was disapointed few times with "preamp pedals" which at the end had to go into other preamp to sound good.

Great box. The cab sim add on would be interesting to also try as a re amp box to grot up strings synths bland samples maybe even filthy snares and dirty kicks. Dig that the gate almost goes square closing. To my ears the gain was more appealing at lower settings where the even odd harmonics got through..cool vid

He didn't demo it in the return loop because that will make the Horizon sound just like an overdrive, not even a high distortion gain Pre Amp.
zepp3lin thats not true. Ola Englund ran this through an effects return in one of his videos and it had plenty of gain

Greetings Bea...It's probably I dumb request but I wanted to know if you could start incorporating some direct sounds(into amp sims) with some pedals? For those of us who use digital rigs at home...Well,only if it isn't a hassle. I might be the only one requesting this cause I do most of my practicing with headphones and BIAS amp 2, if that's the case then it's okay... Great demo nonetheless *thumbs up*

Just did a video of this side by side with a ksr Ceres and man.
Rabea made it work..but please do yourself a favor and check out other options outside this. Using it by itself, it's one of the worst standalone preamps I've ever used. The way it's being used here, you could get similar results with a bunch of distortion or even overdrive pedals.

I hate they call it a preamp and the best I have seen using it is like a distorsion pedal or a boost, so I think it is not really a preamp, i find its sound and enclosure like a mod of the MXR 5150 overdrive which misha used as a preamp and as a travel rig

I didn't like the cab Sim, but through the kraken the sound is just brutal
It's really muddy. I'm not talking about high gain etc. It just doesn't sound responsive. It's just mud.
I am looking for something to replace the Demonizer on my pedal board because it is just too big. I like to be able to go straight in from my pedalboard so I can set up quick and easy for solo gigs without breaking my back, but I need versatility. I need something like this, or an additional pedalboard and flight case. How does this handle clean tones?

Im new to pedals here and I’m a metal player I’m deciding wether to get this or the Precision Drive I just have a practice amo a Marshall MG10 to be specific I just want to jam and gig just occasionally please help me decide which one to get huhu

the whole video sounds kind of dark to me, so its hard for me to distinguish anything. how would you compare it to a kraken pedal(maybe with and overdrive and/or gate)?
My current bare bones OD sound is just the precision into an EVH 5150 pedal. Would this replace the EVH or would it go in the chain before it?
It would probably go before the EVH in your chain, since this would function as the "amp" that you're plugging into. You could have both and just get ALL THE GAIN... or you could use this alone and get the sound of a pretty tight amp.
Many people would say that the Apex is basically the 5150 on steroids, so I would say it would replace it. However they both have different sounds. They're both pretty much amps in a box after all. worth having both if you're into the 5150's sound.
It would replace both the EVH and Precision Drive. Misha intended it to be its own thing and an all in one solution for tight modern metal tone. He says is you stack the PD on top of it, it’ll give you an over the top tight tone.
But it's supposed to work very well WITH the Precision drive as well. Having this and the EVH in a chain would be redundant, as they're both preamp pedals...unless that's what you're going for, of course.
You would want to replace the 5150 with the Apex or keep the 5150 as a "second channel" if that makes sense. I would recommend doing:
Precision Drive ---> Apex ---> 5150

Ravid Umar I’ve been using it in videos man, I tend to circulate my guitars so I don’t always use the same stuff. Sometimes strats, baritone, or PRS etc, the musicman also, depends on the rig

Could someone answer this question for me please. I have emailed Horizon Devices but no response yet. I have an Apex Pre Amp, but was looking to get a precision drive. Is there any need? I.e. is it going to add much to the sound / do anything different over the Pre Amp? Would appreciate an informed answer, as the overdrive is 200bangers.
