His powers never about "just being a fat dude", in the comics he's much more powerful in fact. Super strength, endurance, mass, and enhanced agility (he's not Spiderman but he's a lot quicker than you'd expect from a guy that big), but his chief ability is to create a sort-of kinetic forcefield that acts as an anchor when he's got both feet on solid ground, making him virtually immovable. Even the Hulk has a hard time moving him when his feet are planted
funny how different perspectives can be....to me that's easily the worst written line in this entire scene...but judging by the comments there are a fair number of people who liked it.

Wakanda may be in Africa, but this isn’t a reference to it. They were looking for the Adamantium, not Vibranium. Two different metals. But there is a What If timeline in the comics where Wolverine was given a Vibranium skeleton instead of an Adamantium skeleton just FYI.
