This is great. I never knew this performance took place. I loved the Rentals at the time. In 1996 I worked at Tower Records-the rival (superior) giant record store in the city. I never went to HMV. I stepped foot in there only once, to apply for a job.

This is a cool performance but instead of acoustic they still should have run Rods guitar through an amp with a Russian big muff fuzz pedal to get that clipping, out of phase sound like on the album. Also Matt’s bass with a big muff. And of course the Hayden sister on a Moog and Maya Rudolph on a Moog with those classic crunchy analog synth sound. Just because you run through amps doesn’t mean you have to be super loud you just keep them turned down to a reasonable album for an in store appearance like this. Either way it’s still pretty awesome that someone had a VHS recording from back in the mid 90’s still around to upload on here, and it’s really good quality with all things considered. I think my AOL messenger screen name in highschool was MattSharpRules hahaha LOL! Growing up playing in hardcore bands from the mid 90’s until about 2005 kinda gave me that image so people were always taken back when they heard that my favorite bands and biggest influences were 1.weezer 2.the rentals! I learned how to really play guitar by learning the Weezer blue album front to back and I always loved Matt Sharps bass playing! Those bands were the theater kids bands that they like, not me the skateboarding hardcore kid. Anyway just so many good times involving those two bands! I believe I became the opposite of a virgin while this first rentals album was playing!
