Thank you for the review! Could you please tell me, or do a video about the cpu full load temps and speeds, and about the fan noise, how loud is it in full load. Maybe CPU + GPU at max at the same time, and separate? Thank you for your time!

How do you know if your model has DreamColor? I purchased the 6TV06EA@ version of the Zbook 17 G6 which the website advertised as HAVING dreamcolour but the cpl sheet used by their salesmen suggests it does NOT have dreamcolor as the feature is not listed in the same way as the cpl sheet for units that are know to have dreamcolor. Can anyone please help? I might guess that a dark spot at the top rh corner of the touchpad exists, then is this used for claibrating Dreamcolor? If so the prsence of this dark spot on the top rh corner might indicate that the unit niquestion does have DreamColor.

Hi VFX, I ordered two of this workstations, one at a HPdealer and one at the HP store. Love the rock solid build of these machines and the extreme ease of upgrading memory and storage. The fans, even when the machine is working at 98% GPU capacity under unigen hardware test, are super silent and blowing air in the lower frequency of the audio band, telling me this baby will keep on running at moderate to low temperatures, awesome!
However, i had bad luck with both of these machines:
The first one had a loose screw in the battery compartiment and heavy distortion in the speakers, warning me there could be more surprises ahead. The backlight bleeding of the display (this machine is equipped with the standard 1080p 300 nits screen) wat heavily, although not noticebly when running on windows.
The greatest party pooper was the annoying coil whine, overpowering even the fan noise.
This machine went back to the dealer and HP was so kind making a speedy D.O.A. procedure for me so no worries here.
The second machine had an even worse backlight bleeding and a plastic strip on the upper part of the display that didn’t fit well on the display surroundings. Result: a sharp razor at your finger tips when opening the lid. Regretfully the annoying coil whine was present too on this model. Happily I could start a return procedure here and coming monday this unit will be picked up, leaving me behind with sad and mixed feelings about this very expensive but still attracting workstation.
HP acknowledges the coil whine issue and hopes the next shipment of motherboards will be fittet in the coming weeks/months.
For me this probably will be too late, unless HP reaches out to me sending me a nicely assembled unit, with less backlight bleeding display and NO coilwhine.
I looked forward to the release of this unit for more that 6 months and spent a lot of effort, two one-time usable software versions and money to get it in my hands but all put together I fell in love with a nice lady with muscles under her skirts but with a terrible squeeking voice and a big pimple in the middle of her face..
I am no apple fan but HP should do a bit more effort to finisch their machines with more care like Apple does. On the other hand could Apple learn a lot about the upgradeability of this Zbook17.
Please help me out HP, I am in despare here!
Update 21-4-2020: I bought a Lenevo P1 in order to wait for a new version of this by coilwhine plagued workstation and i am really happy with it!
Since Fusion360 is a cpu based software that uses also the GPU ram, everything works fine for me now.
Don't think I will ever buy a HP again....

Great comment! I found myself ready to move on and leave my Zbook G3 behind in order to purchase a brand new workstation Mobile. I had my eyes on this G6 but your comment appear to pop up right on time. I was kinda worried about the assembly since i had this type of issues in my G3, and is sad to read that this keep being a recurrent problem. It is so true what you say about Macbook, always beautifully assembled. So, i think i will go for the MSI WS75. Again, great comment!

What do you do that you need P1 for (or two ZBOOK17s) ?

    • @offgridd
      @offgridd 3 роки тому

@@SiRedCat using Fusion on the road in a thin package (P1) and with a lot of horsepower.
The RTX3000 in the Zbook does a great job but the annoing coil whine in two models, combined with a flawsome finish (no premium feeling with loose screws and mismatching plastic lid cover decided me to buy a Lenovo.
No regrets however for now but when HP finds it's balls and gets their shit together, delivers an acceptable keyboard (The P1 types AWESOME!!) and an acceptable colored screen I might consider going back to the Z1 which is easy to upgrade and has lots of power....

Actually the first two memory slots are located under the battery, fans, etc. All of that has to be removed if you are replacing those modules. The visible memory slots in the machine in your video are slots 3 and 4. You mention that you have 64GB of total memory with four 16GB memory cards. Just mentioning this because if you ordered this machine with memory in slot 1 and not slot 2 you will have to remove a lot of components to get to those slots.

Sir VFX I just would like to informed you that regarding your ram capacity what you have mentioned is 16GB + 16GB in your video your own answered is 64GB, I hope i'am wrong.. But i think you need to double check your installed ram again and the video clip, that HP the manufacturer of your Hp Zbook 17 G6 powered by xeon should be installed a total physical memory of 64 GB meaning 32GB X 2 or 2 pcs of it not 16GB x 2 = 32GB only but in your answer in the video review you said 64GB, just wanna help you.. i hope i'am wrong about this, that you have only 32GB or ram installed that supposed to be 32GB X 2 = 64 Gb thank you hope you'll see and read my comment down below.. end..

First let me clear HP ZBOOK 17 is not a Gaming Laptop. And for games no need to but this expensive laptop. My Configuration is- Intel Xeon 8 core, 16 Threads, 64GB ECC ram, Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000 8GB, HP dream color 17.3 inch display, 2TB NVMe SSD, and most importantly 5 years International Onsite warranty. Well here is the use of this laptop which justify the price. Let me share my use - I do 3D content creation, VFX simulations, Rendering, 4K video editing, Running 5 -10 virtual machines parallel, compiling codes, Running multiple 3D applications parallel, some time laptop run 24x7, colour grading in 4K digital content, Realtime game assets visualisation in unreal 3D. And my job location switch frequently so need mobility to carry my workstation with me. All this I can do with my Zbook very smoothly. And yes I can play all games in high quality and frame rate. Stay tuned Full benchmark video coming soon.

@@vfxpipeline i am sorry but i had in past "workstation laptops" that costed x2 than gaming laptops.. and i can't find any diff.. apart from the price. Can u tell me your Cinema bench score? and what temps and ghz your CPU runs at..
Because as much as they are advertised how amazeing they are... they usually are way slower in performance compared to game laptops. i have 3 laptops currently, 2 of them act as render nodes and 1 is main workstation they usualy work in enviroment of 25-30 C.. rendering almost constantly... and i have no problem at all... not only that on weekends my laptop is usually running in night club/event as it is powersource for VJ. and the oldest one have now 5 years... and still works like on day 1.
so as much i like all marketing bullshit they say about how it is more stable... what matters for me is.. what temp the CPU is running and what ghz and how much performance it provides.
I simply just don't see value in those laptops.. it is just mareting cap.

We like your excitement, and appreciate you sharing your experience. But we just use the more practical approach via cloud accessibility options for faster cpu and gpu workstations and unlimited amount cores with a very shitty $1000 laptop. We do exactly the same thing you do and perhaps more! All we need is a internet service provider for accessing the cloud...this is the future!! buying hardware is just waste of money as your ROI on that is substantially slow and time consuming. You better make sure you make money off that laptop in the first 30 days as the value of it will go down by 30% in 5 months.

For final renders the cloud idea sure sounds like a good option, but when Internet is down (or just slow) or when you simply don't have access to the cloud.. then it is very good to have all the power you need inside your laptop. I often use renderfarms for large 3d render jobs, but when I'm working, then I it's great to have a quick and smooth running setup like this machine. I also work with colour critical work, so the Dreamcolor display is among the best you can get showing 100% AdobeRGB.
I'm about to order the HP ZBook G6 15" (with the Dreamcolor display) to replace my 15" Macbook Pro (2018). I've had Macbooks for many years, have been really happy with them, but with this new Macbook Pro I am really missing all the ports, the physical Function-keys (replaced by "touchbar") and the SD-card reader - missed it all from day one. I've also been looking at the Lenovo Thinkpad competitor (same price range), but I like the HP ZBooks better and Lenovo doesn't offer an equally good display. I'm not a gamer, but this machine will do it all.
