They said this spot is the waikiki in California , perfect mellow waves, it’s the longboarders' heaven. You can surf here with any boards, most common are the classic longboard, some shortboards if you think you can out paddle the longboarders and a lot of wavestorms.
This beach is def family friendly. You will see lots of dads and moms teaching their kids how to surf here.
But today, let me show you what the truth about doheny state beach.
Most people don’t have the luxery to get the 949 area code since the housing here is quite expensive. So chance of you from somewhere inland and driving down here is quite high. But lucky you, the parking here is ginormous, you never have an issue to park here other than sometime there might be event here. . It;s a good that the parking is easy, but the bad thing is the easy parking def generates more surfers in the line up.
It’s quite hard to catch the waves today since it’s a wall most of the time. The one you do catch are steep and will turn into a close out quite fast. So it was not that fun but at least there is something. And yes, you need to paddle super hard for these waves. A local surfer taught me that it’s because the swell direction . Right now is about 200 degree angle which make doheny waves form like a wall. Good tips to learn. And here is sarah. Sarah is doing quite well as a beginner surfer. She only been surfing for 3 months but she can catch her own ways and not fear about other surfers in this crowded line up, super proud of her.
It’s quite big today because the swell is here. We were actually in San O before. But it was just too way too big. There's no where else to go for me an amateur surfers when the swell is here. Doho is the only spot.
And by the way, the 200 angle thingy I have no idea if it's true😂

the boneyard is also a very good wave but with a little less of the crowd sometimes but a lot of really really good surfers surf there too so it would def be really good content!!
