Surfing Doheny State Beach at 6am - a friendly surf community

- I've been surfing at Doheney before work for several years and yes it's known as a beginner break, an overcrowded kookfest where you might get run over, but it's also a longboarder's dream and you'll see the same friendly faces every time you paddle out.
If you surf there, you might have seen me with my GoPro in my mouth... I know I look ridiculous... but I can film you and me on a wave... so that's pretty awesome.
HUGE shot out to Keith who is getting me out in the mornings well past summer. It does help that we still have summer-like conditions.

It’s one of my favorite ways to start the day. It’s hard getting out of bed, but once there... it’s so worth it.
I have never seen so many surfers all at once until I came to Doheny State Beach! Great video 😊

Fun stuff! When you've got the shots of you on the board, are you holding the GoPro or is it attached?
I'm holding the camera. I surf with the GP on mouth mount. I can clip it to the mount on the board, or hold it in my mouth. Game changer for getting footage and different angles.

@@kenstrampe7609 Depends on where you're at! Some places I'd choose falling on concrete over a sharp shallow reef

It can be at low tide. But it’s a great beginner break and if you go toward the jetty there is more sand. Hope that helps.

Probably? But I've never seen any. It's not really a sandy bottom at the surf spot, it's pretty rocky.

Just shuffle when you walk in at a Sandy beach. Knock on wood, but I’ve never been stung🤞
