idk why but after seeing this i feel much more confident making music. like the way you talk about it makes it sound so simple. wish you coulda added the how, when and why to play certain chords in a scale then it would probably be the best short music lesson ever.
God Louie, you're just the type of guy that I could never hate, you just have such a nice, positive energy about you, and your videos are always a pleasure to watch.
...holy crap. If I could find something that shows the letter of music while it plays I think I could actually learn. This made so much more sense to me than any music lesson I've had.
Ristro44 there’s always sheet music that you can read while listening! I can tell you’re probably more of an auditory learner and seeing the actual letters help me too but learning sheet music really helps you get started with music
Agree about the listening while watching advice. You need to develop anticipation for what you are hearing, and the best way is to mingle the visual sheet music with a recording. Couple that with the Western music theory/harmonic language, and you’ll be ready to write and appreciate music in a whole new way!
How i actually learned how to read sheet music was that whenever i aquired sheet music i would write the letter of the note on the side or the top or bottom to play it with a "cheat sheet". After much practice and "lettering" i gradually learned to be able to recognize the note on the scale (I can only read bass cleff bcuz i play trombone im working on treble cleff). Mabye this method could help?

It's actually really easy and fun to learn how to play instruments. Especially either guitar or piano, which are really the only two instruments you can write songs on, because you can play chords and sing while playing them. Piano seems more useful because of modern digital technology allowing you to play any instrument with a knowledge of piano, with samplers/synths.

as a relatively new musician (I've been listening and playing other peoples' stuff my whole life, but just started writing my own things) I can say, music is with way easier and way harder than this video makes it seem. learning all of the chords and variations and theory and all that fun stuff is hard unless you are willing to put your whole self into it or you are willing to take years upon years of your life learning it. however, if you approach every single thing you write or hear as something to learn from, you pick things up faster. I learned the basics of ukulele in under a week because I learned how to play songs on piano that were written for ukulele. it's a mixed bag. this video really helps me understand more of how to make my music unique. I do take a lot of inspiration in my music from louie song, so it's kind of perfect that I've found this video....
