Same. Love my SteamDeck, ain't gonna buy a Windows OS handheld console, that's the most inconvenient and frustrating way of gaming "on the go" imaginable.
I just bought a steam deck after I used my brother's and fell in love. Although I really considered a few others including the gpd, ayaneo, rog, and Lenovo offerings before that and I still might end up buying one of those in the future. Mainly because I wish the steamdeck was a little smaller and more portable, not because of it's power or operating system though.
I think the problem with Ayaneo, which is a problem with a lot of these Chinese tech manufacturers, is they're focusing on releasing too many different products to fill every possible niche, instead of focusing on making one really good one.
I think its because they don't have the resources as an established brand to sell at a loss to make up on other sales. They pump them out to make a small profit then iterate better improvements over time to build up the margins and their brand. If they put all their eggs into one device, it would be risky and they could bankrupt if they don't meet minimum sales.
Yeah I agree that they pump out quite a lot but the CEO of Aya Neo recently said that their intention is to do this purposely as that is what they can offer the market and honestly I'm actually glad they do it. I am preordering an Aya Neo Air 1S tonight which is absolutely perfect for me because I love the small form factor and significant amount of power in the device. I also love the design of the GPD Win 4 with the keyboard and mini optical trackpad so I'm glad their are devices other than generic steam deck rip off or obvious choices like the ROG Ally which asides from higher specs which will be somewhat obsolete in only a year, it really doesn't bring anything new to the table at all really. The Steam Deck is still phenomenal because of the support Valve has for it but I recently sold mine because I prefer niche devices such as the Air 1S which are way more portable so I can actually use it outside the house. The other thing I want to say is I'm glad their are smaller devices in general because the SD is actually massive in real life, like substantially bigger than I thought it would be and the Lenovo Legion Go is somehow even larger I've seen in prelease vids. I know a lot of people actually quite like the size but true handheld gaming for me has always been something at least somewhat pocketable, so all in all I'm glad Aya Neo exists even if just for the Air, I just wish they had better product support ie longetivity and an even passable warranty process so that the community could actually support their devices instead of focussing mostly on the SD and a bit on the ROG Ally for mods and the like in games (thinking of Starfield here which had SD mods in about 2 days)..
That's not a problem...that's their strength. There's no such thing as a "really good" device because there are too many variable to consider for each individual. Having multiple devices means they can cover the individual who prefers a 6 in, 7 in, or 8 in screen. The individual who prefers small versus large handhelds. The individual who prefers a cross style d-pad versus a circular one. Trackpads or no trackpads. And many more variables. And like someone mentioned earlier, they can't afford to just make one device. Technically, neither could Valve if they didn't have Steam sales on the backend.
It appears solid in many ways (good to see someone finally including trackpads, solid screen real estate, nice build quality), but that cost is gonna stonewall quite a lot of folks. Also, I swear I'm losing track of all these Windows handhelds now. I blink and three more appear in its place.
Yeah, they get pumped out on the assembly line like clockwork, without those devices ever even getting a proper chance to prove themselves on the market. As soon as there are new specs available, they get cramped into new handhelds and thrown out there. This is why there's no long-term support for those devices. You'll be lucky to still receive any kind of worthwhile customer service in a year for any of today's high-end consoles in case they start malfunctioning by then. Not worth the risk for all that money.
@@X862go now imagine having the same problems with a chinese brand without support in the west, having to ship them your product back to china for service, taking at times weeks for receiving it back. Believe me, Lenovo support is a luxury compared to Ayaneo
The gyro and trackpads are good things, but Windows is not. I can even stomach a high price tag, but the key benefit of the Steam Deck is SteamOS. I like a gaming dedicated device like this having an OS that's designed specifically for gaming and not a full desktop OS, specially not Windows.
Definitely. Windows OS is just not suitable for portable gaming devices, it's the worst solution there can be. Even all the inflated specs on those newer handhelds can't outweigh this huge disadvantage. Nothing beats the convenience of the dedicated Steam OS on the SteamDeck. Those who haven't played on the Deck don't even know what they're missing out on.
Thank you for this review. I want to also mention that I truly appreciate that you tag each game that’s playing in the background so that we can get it if it looks interesting. I think you’re the only content provider that does that for us. Keep it up!
Yeah, and those 600grams are already pushing it. Can't hold my Steam Deck for as long as I'm playing it, since my wrists start hurting after a while. So I put a cushion on my lap and place the SD on top of it whenever I'm gaming sitting on my couch. Can't imagine a HANDHELD device having almost the weight of a fricking notebook! That's ridiculous. Even if it's for the battery's benefits, to me it ain't worth the inconvenience. It wouldn't even be possible for me to game on that thing the way I do with the speakers on because they're placed below. A cushion would drown all the sound, so I'd have to use my headphones all the time, which I don't like to do if I'm not playing a horror game. That's also an important detail where I applaud Valve's designers for placing the speakers of the SD on the front, so that nothing ever hinders the sound that's directed right towards you, loud and clear always. Steam Deck FTW! 🤗
@@sacredsecrecy9620the Ally also does the same ; speakers in the front, all usb ports above the controller. I think Valve and ASUS ROG are actually the only ones who really gave us amazing handhelds so far. The others are good too, but either they're too expensive or they're hard to find lol.
Yet another Ayaneo model that's using Indiegogo, is made in small quantities, has a high price due to lack of economies of scale, runs Windows and will inevitably be superseded by a new model within 6 months. All massive disadvantages that means this will be the umpteenth Ayaneo device to be a niche within a niche. Got to question a 1600p display on a handheld - the current APU generation can't drive that res natively so most games will either have to run at a lower res or be upscaled to 1600p. It's also very annoying that every Windows handheld OEM reinvents the wheel w.r.t. game overlays/config tools - every one is written from scratch and none of them have improved on SteamOS's equivalents anyway!
those pads are at terrible position. One thing I really appreciate steamdeck's trackpads position is I can comfortably use it as silent abxy buttons during night, to completely eliminate clicking sound.
That screen looks really appealing, but that price is a big ask... At that price everything needs to be right. The speakers are important to me, and also I would kind of expect vrr support. I guess I will continue 'toughing it out' with my steam deck (it's anything but because the deck is still such a joy to use) and hope we'll get something with a big screen like this in one or two years that really ticks all the boxes... Wet dream if Valve would make a steam deck 2 XL 😂
Warning ⚠️⚠️⚠️ Aya is horrible in warranty request. Ive had my ayaneo air plus broken for 5-6 months and took them 4 months to "repair" my device only to receive it back broken and without a Windows active. Audio isn't working headphone jack isn't working so i know its a board issues. The communication eith Aya have been horrible they take a week to reply to your emails and flat out said they can send the replacement part to see if you can do the repairs!!! Scummy corp and my last ayaneo product there goes my 1k down the drain, so if your system works great i hope you never have to deal with them. You have been warned
Well I like the idea of it. I also like the fact that there's a whole bunch of PC handhelds that now exist since that both legitimizes the format and gives Valve a little bit of competition-which will generally give comapnies incentive to try to make a device that the market likes and may drive expectations of features. That said my current feeling is that while it does boast decent features, the places where it feels deficient compared to the Steam Deck are made really painful due to the higher price point. Though the fact that the software is still being very actively developed is a good thing-hopefully they add the omitted features soon since that will keep these handhelds competitive.
I think my favorite thing about this is that Valve released the Deck which created more competitors for the handheld market, but most pc gamers still buy from steam, so for the most part whoever comes out on top, Valve still wins.
I also like the fact that at this moment Valve isn't stopping or even making it more difficult for folks to use games from other sources on the Steam Deck. I'm hoping that they continue to keep things this way since I feel like between using Linux and generally making the machine user-repairable It's different from most consoles made by companies in the business of selling/distributing games online.
You guys do realize that these "competitors" were around and releasing handhelds before Valve, right? Valve just made handheld PCs more accessible and less risky to buy with the Deck.
The Integrated gyro options definitely need work on Aya space 2. Onexconsole offers much more control and customization from mouse emulation, to a DS4 controller that can be fully customized in steam.
- 4 back buttons similar to the Steam Deck. - Bigger battery than the Deck LCD. - Has trackpads like the Steam Deck. - Has Hall Effect joysticks AND triggers. This might as well be the PERFECT handheld gaming PC for me. Those trackpads will come in handy when I'm trying to navigate with Windows, trackpads will help me. Despite the price tag of it being $200 more than an ROG Ally X or Zotac Zone, I WILL get this thing. >=3
It is indeed! Having a whole ass Windows desktop you have to navigate through with a stick and a D-pad and all those system settings you have to tinker with, being on a PORTABLE CONSOLE, is pure insanity. Steam Deck with its console-like simplicity of its Steam OS is SO much more convenient, it's really a joy gaming on that thing. All those SD imitations, however... Hmm..! Especially for THOSE prices they usually demand?! Nah, thanks, I'll rather keep my SteamDeck, no matter its weaker specs. It's still the best portable PC on the market.
I love my steam deck but man do I really want this one. Nice screen, big battery, touchpads. I won't buy it because Ayaneo releases a new handheld every 30 seconds instead of focusing on and supporting 1. But it sounds and looks nice.
It's a shame, because I like the addition of trackpads and extra programmable buttons, but not when they are in such inconvenient parts of the handheld. The Steam Deck has the buttons and controls laid out properly, making it much easier to position your thumbs on the analog sticks, d-pad, face buttons and trackpads. I hope there will be more clones that take better advantage of this, but the fact there is now one that actually has trackpads means they're at least making progress.
This week I found out that the Steam Deck has unofficially arrived in Israel through a store called KSP. It keeps getting sold out. I ordered mine and I'm impatiently awaiting its arrival.
I mean replacing Windows 11 with HoloISO or Clamera is easy but why do these handhelds gets chunkier each time? Even holding the Deck for long periods of time isn't really fun.
This is the best one out there period. In every single way. Even ergonomically. It’s just superior. If anything, the battery alone proves this, if not the fantastic display and power.
The title is correct, this IS the closest thing to a Steam Deck... but upgraded. IF this had a portrait display and VRR, it would be the ultimate device.
Very glad for a windows device but it really seems like we are better off getting the Lenovo even thought the system ram is so weak vs these newer China made systems with the ability to get 32gb at least.
I wish the menu on the ROG Ally was this simplistic. It feels like a chore settings things up. For what I paid, I honestly expected a better experience. Games run great on it. It's just the process of getting there. So many steps.
This kind of product is a no go for me until they can start working with Steam Input properly. I hope that it's something that Valve can implement on their end. This market will get a lot more interesting when we can install official Steam OS on more than just the Deck.
I held this device at Tokyo Game Show, and the screen was beautiful but this thing is absolutely massive and heavy. I already thought the Steam Deck was slightly too large, but this is just a bit too much
I think the performance difference. in Arkham Knight is caused by the RAM on the OneXFly being 7500Mhz. Aya Neo needs to release a 7500MHz BIOS for the Kun
Onexfly has 7500hmz ram while the Kun's memory is 6400mhz. Aya has stated that there will be a bios update to increase the kuns memory speed but for now that is why the onexfly is a little bit faster. Perhaps when the kun does recieve the bios update with the faster ram, increasing the tdp will further increase performance due to the faster memory
I'm just watching this review because it has an APU similar to the Z1 Extreme, same screen resolution as the Legion Go so I expect this to perform similarly and want to see it xD.
You need track pads for a PC based handheld With a normal controller you will never have enough buttons to play every PC game without controller support Back buttons will allow you to make button combinations i.e. hold the back button and now A isn't jump, but this can get confusing and difficult, as well as the joystick not always being very nice to emulate mouse input But with track pads like the SteamDeck you can have full UI based shortcuts with special icons or letters making keyboard shortcuts very easy to remember and really accurate mouse input I will never buy one of these handhelds unless they have track pads, it's why I switched from a Switch (which is fantastic) to the SteamDeck (which is more fantastic) So for me it's picking between handhelds based on where the trackpad are and how useful they are for gaming and desktop navigation If they have no trackpads I won't buy it, if they're difficult to use I'll buy one with better track pads These track pads sound great but awkward to use so I'll stick with the SteamDeck, I'm happy to see another handheld with trackpads though, we need more of this. The trackpads are necessary for a PC based handheld like the SteamDeck especially more so for one running Windows, you can't navigate Windows entirely with a touch screen and joysticks just don't cut it for mouse navigation
One thing I noticed about this device is that ram doesn’t matter until AMD does better bios updates to push above 6400mhz. Whether you buy 16 32 or 64 gigs you’re kinda stuck there. There has been a 7500mhz update but it’s still not perfect at the moment. Save your money there
Im not the biggest fan of the trackpads being so low. But the look of the device is really sleek. Gonna be honest and say I am experiencing handheld fatigue the way you mentioned before and am starting to not think most of these are that interesting outside of the actual design looking cool.
I wonder if those USB4 ports also support Thunderbolt 3 and thereby also PCIe (so you can use external GPUs). Their page say fully featured USB4 but then only specify data, video and charging and nothing about anything else.
It baffles my mind how companies think chunky bezzels like these are acceptable in 2023??? Mostly all phones, laptops and tablets are super sleek so this thing being that expensive and full of bezzels is crazy
I bought a laptop for couch/plane gaming but when it came with win 11 i lost a lot of interest in using it. I cant justify buying a handheld if it comes with windows 11 as it was already a terrible experience on a laptop.
The kun and the lenovo has been the only 2 that's made me really situp and pay attention. I'm curious about your thought's, looking forward to this video .
UGHHHH... another handheld with crap speakers! STOP Sacrificing quality y'all! I know, just use headphones. A. my body puts out a LOT of heat and I live in a hot state. B. My ears canals are sensitive asf....
I‘ll stick to my Steam Deck until I can buy a steam deck with OLED screen or something similiar powerwise. The steam decks screen is its biggest drawback.
Same price as laptop This thing is Weak + and small Battery is way to low You still need to plug it to play 2hrs Just buy laptop Almost same price + powerfull Can play games with high settings Raytrace sucks It useless
can u help me. I have the 2TB AYA NEO KUN and which some a huge battery im only getting about an hour of gameplay before the battery dies, that is the same amount of time i was getting on my AYA NEO 2 yet this battery is so much bigger, i figured id get more than an hour? am I doing something wrong? I'm playing games with SMART TDP, full brightness and some games medium, some high settings but again how can i still only be getting an hour off a device with way more battery power than the aya neo 2?. What am i doing wrong. I understand everygame is different but im just playing smart tdp on an AAA game for example like Arkham Knight and im only getting an hour, how can i be getting the same as the aya neo 2 with 10x the size of battery life. I heard someone say they were getting 10-15 plus hours out of this, what was he paying SNES games lol? im so confused.
the Kun looks really nice, I couldn't justify the cost of the Kun though I will keep an eye on it. The honest reason I'll never buy a ROG Ally is because Asus has become a terrible company and I'll never buy another one of their products.
I love how you say 4tb, so don't worry. Truth is, you should worry that should be standard now this 512 and 1tb, 2tb needs to stop. As I can name 3 games, that would just zap that, cod. Destiny, starfield. Most new games take way too much space just look at original then look at remaster they jump up in size exponentially.
The fact that you can't just open up Steam go into big picture mode and then press a button when your game is running and then go into that configurator and configure all the controls just like you would on a steam deck makes this device sucky along with all the normal Windows crap.
Something that runs windows and is also a Chinese brand that I have rarely heard of, a windows device that has every one of my accounts connected to it along with my home network. I will have to pass.
Why nobody cares fan noise and buttons click sounds? Switch very silent, i never hear it fan, all buttons and joysticks silent when play. So i can use it everywhere without bothering people.
Dont buy Ayaneo, my Ayaneo suddenly died out of nothing after 2 months of using it and Ayaneo support doesn't want to apply the warranty, beautiful devices but not very reliable

IF this had a portrait display and VRR, it would be the ultimate device.
And after a month there will be another Ayaneo handheld
Very glad for a windows device but it really seems like we are better off getting the Lenovo even thought the system ram is so weak vs these newer China made systems with the ability to get 32gb at least.
Steam deck with a Geforce now Ultimate Subscription is WAY more Value for money than this thing
Is latency on their Ultimate plan really that much better than the free tier?
Finally! A UA-camr other than Taki who can pronounce the name correctly! 👏🏽😂
'..it runs windows'. Well that's a nope for me.
Honestly cause steam does not use windows and uses Linux blows my mind and I love my deck I will never install windows on it.
Too bad the price is too insane. Then it would definitely be worth it.
Can't wait for mine to arrive! Great video. 👍🏽
I’ve got 2 of those things and I’ve been playing Starfield almost everyday like I’m addicted Star Citizen is next
Considering the price it's closer to 1.5 Steam decks (sorry just had to make that joke)
I'm just watching this review because it has an APU similar to the Z1 Extreme, same screen resolution as the Legion Go so I expect this to perform similarly and want to see it xD.
A lot of money for something I’ll replace once the next better handheld comes out.
This looks like an All in one device, more so than many others.
wish you did a battery drain test.
You need track pads for a PC based handheld
With a normal controller you will never have enough buttons to play every PC game without controller support
Back buttons will allow you to make button combinations i.e. hold the back button and now A isn't jump, but this can get confusing and difficult, as well as the joystick not always being very nice to emulate mouse input
But with track pads like the SteamDeck you can have full UI based shortcuts with special icons or letters making keyboard shortcuts very easy to remember and really accurate mouse input
I will never buy one of these handhelds unless they have track pads, it's why I switched from a Switch (which is fantastic) to the SteamDeck (which is more fantastic)
So for me it's picking between handhelds based on where the trackpad are and how useful they are for gaming and desktop navigation
If they have no trackpads I won't buy it, if they're difficult to use I'll buy one with better track pads
These track pads sound great but awkward to use so I'll stick with the SteamDeck, I'm happy to see another handheld with trackpads though, we need more of this.
Save your money there
I wished you did actually play the GOTY on this; Baldurs Gate 3, so we can see if the small text in the game is easily readable or not.
Im not the biggest fan of the trackpads being so low.
But the look of the device is really sleek.
Gonna be honest and say I am experiencing handheld fatigue the way you mentioned before and am starting to not think most of these are that interesting outside of the actual design looking cool.
Hmmm I’m torn now …
I wonder if those USB4 ports also support Thunderbolt 3 and thereby also PCIe (so you can use external GPUs). Their page say fully featured USB4 but then only specify data, video and charging and nothing about anything else.
Yeah, Ayaneo. Company that drops support for anything just after release.
It baffles my mind how companies think chunky bezzels like these are acceptable in 2023??? Mostly all phones, laptops and tablets are super sleek so this thing being that expensive and full of bezzels is crazy
Cool specs and all, but I'd still pick the ONEXFLY instead
So what do you think about the kun now would you say it’s the best handheld gaming device
For the price they should've provided this device multiple D-pad options.
I bought a laptop for couch/plane gaming but when it came with win 11 i lost a lot of interest in using it. I cant justify buying a handheld if it comes with windows 11 as it was already a terrible experience on a laptop.
Controls look horribly positioned, somehow this give me a vibe of chinese steam deck even tho way more expensive
The only problem I have is it being 2 lbs
The kun and the lenovo has been the only 2 that's made me really situp and pay attention. I'm curious about your thought's, looking forward to this video .
UGHHHH... another handheld with crap speakers! STOP Sacrificing quality y'all! I know, just use headphones. A. my body puts out a LOT of heat and I live in a hot state.
B. My ears canals are sensitive asf....
I wonder if bitlocker is on? That will slow it
I‘ll stick to my Steam Deck until I can buy a steam deck with OLED screen or something similiar powerwise. The steam decks screen is its biggest drawback.
aren't the trackpads too low on the device? doesn't seem very suited for using the right one as main input method.
Hello. what do you think about making a drawing? I want to see the drawing program on it. ls it good or not?
Same price as laptop
This thing is Weak + and small
Battery is way to low
You still need to plug it to play 2hrs
Just buy laptop
Almost same price + powerfull
Can play games with high settings
Raytrace sucks
It useless
Nice size, terrible price to performance ratio. Stick with my Ally and Deck for now. Legion Go is on my radar!!
can u help me.
Hey how is Returnal on the Steam Deck these days?
Too expensive for a device that I cannot get at retail or shipped in the US. I just can’t take the chance if something goes wrong.
There's sensible reason the Steam Deck has the input layout it has...
the Kun looks really nice, I couldn't justify the cost of the Kun though I will keep an eye on it. The honest reason I'll never buy a ROG Ally is because Asus has become a terrible company and I'll never buy another one of their products.
Legion go will have a bigger screen right?
Google it?
I love how you say 4tb, so don't worry. Truth is, you should worry that should be standard now this 512 and 1tb, 2tb needs to stop. As I can name 3 games, that would just zap that, cod. Destiny, starfield. Most new games take way too much space just look at original then look at remaster they jump up in size exponentially.
8.4 in is Just to big at 8.4 in you could just get a 13in laptop with better everything. Better screen, batteries, two m.2 etc .
Prices are to high not for ordinary buyer for me Steam Deck +2TB SSD And Charge Dock Cost 630€
Anyone know where to get one? Can’t find it on their site maybe I’m just an idiot. Please help.
A THOUSAND BUCKS for this is INSANE!!!
The steam deck tastes so good
it's pronounced kün, not kUn.
why not compare audio on ally isnt it the best handheld audio you can get right now?
this thing looks really good dont know if ima save up for for it the price man😭 i have a 2s does anyone think i should upgrade?
Holocure 🎉Let's go
Another god controller nice
Could just put a very close Arch Linux on there and Steam, heh
So... HoloISO.
The fact that you can't just open up Steam go into big picture mode and then press a button when your game is running and then go into that configurator and configure all the controls just like you would on a steam deck makes this device sucky along with all the normal Windows crap.
I don't like how it look , don't like the price , don't like the aya windows issues
Something that runs windows and is also a Chinese brand that I have rarely heard of, a windows device that has every one of my accounts connected to it along with my home network. I will have to pass.
I honestly won't be buying anything but a steam deck 2.
yes closest thing that cost double steam deck :)
Why nobody cares fan noise and buttons click sounds? Switch very silent, i never hear it fan, all buttons and joysticks silent when play. So i can use it everywhere without bothering people.
More expensive but better than steamdeck
I love how everyone is mispronouncing this device. In Chinese and Japanese its pronounced KOON. Look it up!
TOUCHPADS
I think I like the legion go better
Might as well get Levon’s legion go
but its windows OS 😂 pass
Dont buy Ayaneo, my Ayaneo suddenly died out of nothing after 2 months of using it and Ayaneo support doesn't want to apply the warranty, beautiful devices but not very reliable
This one cool
I'm going to disagree with your video's title and say that a Steam Deck is closest thing to a Steam Deck.
