My father had a Citroen DS 21 Pallas, probably a 1968. Dark green, white paint top, gold velour seats, white leather on the inside of the doors. Adjustable height suspension. Beautiful interior, smooth ride, had a very stable and precise ride like on steel rails, laughed at snow with front drive and Michelin tires, and had about 2 inches of soft foam on the floor that kept your feet very comfortable. It was a very nice car. Long time ago. Cars gone, dad's gone, and I'm not too far behind them.
@SEIKA I seem to remember the height adjustable suspension was standard. But they may also have leaked green hydraulic fluid. My father mentioned "green blood".
@SEIKA This may be late however: The Adjustable suspension was pretty much standard in all Citroens except American imports since America at the time forbid cars from having adjustable bumper heights. These cars were designed to drive in their standard "drive" height. The low height setting was there for a totally depressurised suspension where the car would be lying on its Rubber Bumpstops instead and isn't meant for any form of "spirited driving". Some cars came with a second height setting, a rather "special height" or "loading height" which raised the car ever slightly above the normal drive height for some rougher terrain or to make it easier to load stuff into it. Then finally is the high height setting which raises the car to its maximum height but also means the suspension doesn't dampen anything anymore and driving at anything above 20km/h can result in bending the hydraulic struts. The Cars from 1960 to 2002 used the Green LHM Hydraulic Oil for the Hydropneumatic system which powered everything from the suspension to the power steering to the brakes. The suspension tends to leak when it gets old due to the rubber soft hoses (return hoses and low pressure hoses) cracking from age, and the rubber seals inside the high pressure system perishes after a while. The Cars also used Nitrogen filled spheres for the dampening, these had to be replaced every 5, 7 or 10 years depending on how much you drive the car. You generally note that the ride becomes harder over time as the spheres perish and the nitrogen leaks out of them. Pretty easy to replace them, done a few myself as I was in the process in 2020 of restoring my 1981 Citroen CX Prestige.
Very relaxing, serene almost. Notice the M series BMW and the Golf racing between lights in the town, while you floated unconcerned above such childishness in the DS 👍🇦🇺
Well, that’s just it. It wasn’t ahead of its time. America used to be only Big competitor and so car companies set the standard on what was considered “luxury” and “new” but while that’s as happening, car companies in the EU and Japan were developing and releasing cars that were far better in almost every way than the common American car. The only thing that America had that the EU didn’t was the adrenaline and dopamine rush that you get when driving gas guzzling (but powerful) V8’s. Arnhem
Don't wait with the car in first gear and clutch pressed for minutes on end at red lights. Put the car in neutral and release the clutch, or you'll destroy the clutch bearing very quickly
Especially when its a graphite bearing.
Helas driving in a city is different matter than driving school . Anyway old cars were built to tolerate these situations
There may well have been an aftermarket ball/roller bearing unit fitted? Love the way it just floats over the speed bumps. Brings back memories of my old BX Gti! Just wish they had used this suspension system for my DS 5!
And why is that? I've been doing it for years driving in the city and never utilized the clutch faster than it naturally should be
Oooooook
Strangely relaxing, almost like my favourite genre, slow TV.
I had a DS 23 with fuel injection 30 years ago. Not a rocket at accelerating but it would do over 190 km/h and the ride was really comfortable.
The pleasure of driving. Great classic and great driver. Regards.
Fantastic example of an excellent device right down to the louvered back window treatment
One of the coolest cars ever made. In the top 10, easy.
Such a smooth ride! It reminds me a lot of my '98 XM V6 24v !
I had a same one, what a car !!
citroen xm nice car
Almost slept omg that engine sound in high speeds is so damn calm
man we've got identical tastes - love both the DS and the 900
Love it. Love the huge glass. Love all its quirks.
A million thanks for this! I can almost smell the car. 🙂
Really is a lovely car. That steering wheel, so clever (in that your view is uninhibited), but so strange!
Just an absolutely amazing car for it’s time.. really set the standard
Man, you drive very well! It's pleasant to watch it... and what a nice car, pity that It's not made anymore. Thank you for this nice video and greetings from Santa Catarina State, Southern Brazil.
@@sweetsunnyvibes Hello, thank you for your comment. I guess you are right. But down here many people drive well, too. Best regards...
Wat een heerlijke wagen, en de route door Arnhem is ook prachtig.
Nice to see you drive it in my hometown Arnhem :)
very beautiful city, very super. roads and stuff are perfect. great video in shooting, thank you my friend
The gear change looks nice. I like column gear shifters.
Excellent video, none better on DS-21! Thank you for omitting music. I had a 1972 Pallas, and this video captures exactly how smooth and capable the car was. In 2022, it is still ahead of its time.
Not only a very classy car at the outside but also at the inside to. Must be a joy to drive and a history travel machine. Was nice to tag along for a while and see the beatiful (i gues) French countryside!
It is the Dutch countryside around Arnhem ;-)
Driving such a car is an art. Congratulations on the excellent video. 👍👏👏
Bravo et merci pour ce bon moment à bord, c’est, comme il y longtemps, j’étais au volant pour en avoir eu trois. Je les nommais " les Impératrices de la route".
The column shifter looks like a joy to use!
We had a lovely bug eye DS, loved that car.
The steering wheel is a real work of art. :)
@Barry Soetorro citroen thought it was quirky
Poetry in motion. Nuff said ❤
Arnhem , Zijpendalseweg and my working project white house in the beginning of the street. Lovely car !!!
Remember it all so well….. the wait for the car to rise, turning the indicators off….. the soft ride, the panoramic view…. it would be truly amazing to have an electric 150kW engine…… that BMW would be surprised…….
That steering wheel is something else
Casio F91W, same as mine, a gentleman who knows quality and good taste!!
I came just to support your no music tag. Ex 2CV here 50 years ago
this car is masterpiece
J'avais la même en 1972 super !
