Called "broken" and "damaged" with mental illness. Stigma.

  • My name is Xanthe.
My main diagnoses are bipolar disorder (type 1) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). There is a misconception they can be 'fixed'. For many people, including myself, this is not the case. Despite medications for bipolar and 4 years of therapy for PTSD.
I haven't felt like speaking on video lately (speaking is very exhausting for me) but I felt this topic needed addressing.
I have been wanting to step away from advocacy but when I see comments like to me today, I feel like I can't. Just do what I can, while managing best I can. Lately, I have been focusing more on my fitness.
Comments were being called 'broken' and 'damaged' as someone who has bipolar disorder.
Also ignorant comments about weight gain (a common side effect of bipolar medications).

I’ve just watched a video of you three years ago regarding social anxiety vs avoidant personality, and you seem much more relaxed which made me really happy. Btw you even look better!

Thanks. I have come a long way. Put on weight with meds but fitter regardless. Processed a lot of trauma stuff with a psychologist. Managing better. Still have disabilities but also have improved outlook than previously.
