I was also able to redeem at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills. Standard rooms go for 95,000 points. Called them to use free weekend night.

Waldorf Astoria Maldives is the best redemption right now in the Hilton portfolio. Also, the Conrad Maldives does have standard redemptions available in the overwater villa. They Beach Villa and Overwater Villa are both 95K per night - and qualify as standard redemptions. Not positive if the certificate works for the Overwater, but it does qualify as standard.

I booked at the Waldrof Astoria Los Cabos. Now the point redemption there is also an absurdly high 120k per night but I got the 5th night free so essentially 480k Hilton points for the stay. However the redemption value was good in my book as that same 5 night stay cash price with taxes and fees all in was $5300.
Many hotels change whether or not they offer standard rewards redemptions based on when you book. I have seen the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills have standard redemptions available, but not usually. Likewise, I used my first one of these last summer at the Hotel del Coronado (could have easily made this list), but they don't ALWAYS offer standard redemptions. I'm sure it's all based on anticipated capacity.

Hi Ben! Thanks for all you do. Long time watcher first time commenting. I was just watching this video and noticed you said that Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hill doesn’t take the free night award. I was able to book a free night for 12/25/2023 but I did have to call and have someone on the phone book it for me. I’m paying for two extra nights really looking forward to the stay.

Is the 15k spending you need to earn your free night every calendar year, or card anniversary year?
I just did a search on the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills. They have "standard room rewards" available ONLY when you check the "Show Accessible Rooms." For example, there is availability on May 3rd. Extremely hard to find a weekend night for Friday AND Saturday, and not available every week.

The Marriott mid-tier cards have free anniversary night with no minimum spend. Boundless > Ascend imo
I'm using a weekend free night at the Waldorf Beverly Hills this weekend.
I'm an Aspire card holder. However, this is a free night I earned via spend on the Ascend card.
One thing you may need to consider is how many rooms they have booked.
When I initially called, I wanted to stay in the Hotel on a Saturday and they said all the rooms were booked. I then asked for Friday and got the same response. The Hilton rep offered the Beverly Hilton, but I was persistent and asked her to check for the Sunday night. Sure enough, there were a few rooms available. We got one.

Nice video by the way very informative and exciting because I will be visiting LA this spring break on April and luckily I was able to book my free weekend night/s (includes my wife free night ) to Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills LA on a standard room. So i guess we just have to book it really early and depending on a availability.

If you book 1 night with points , 1 night with redemption and 1 night cash that's 3 nights total. Will it show up on there end as 3 separate bookings and you might have to switch rooms because it wasn't booked as a 3 day stay but 3 separate 1 day stays? Also will they honor diamond status with the discounts and maybe upgrade you if available?
As long as you have booked comparable rooms then once you get to the desk just tell then you have three bookings and they will let you keep the same room. If you booked a suite one night and a room another night, then yeah you may need to switch, unless they upgrade everything to the room you have on your highest level booking. But thats not always possible unless you are highest loyalty status and then it depends on availability
Ben, thanks for the tip about monitoring the spend on the website. I typically use the mobile app which is similar but different. Shoot, I didn’t realize it was a calendar year vs when I signed up, I could have made it last year had I known. Guess I’ll have to start over now, shoot. It’s 6x at grocery stores and gas, so its my go-to card for those two besides staying at Hilton. I’ll get it this year. Thanks for the tip again!

I don't have this card, but I think it would be really difficult to justify putting any spend on it given that you can get more Hilton points using the Amex Gold on 4x categories that are pretty much exactly the same as 6x on the Ascend. If you transfer to Hilton(no one should) during regular pricing, you would net 30k more Hilton points on $15k spend in these categories that are 4xMR/6xHilton. Also, a $600 night after $15k spend only adds 4 cents per dollar spent in value. In the 6x category and valuing HH points at .04, that comes to 6.4 cents per dollar spent. That is still less than what you would get by putting that spend on the Amex Gold(which would earn 4x MR). The Ascend free night doesn't make sense unless you use it on some crazy property like that Maldives property you mentioned. I would only put spend on this card in the 6x cats and only if I was planning on staying in a $1200+ plus with that free night, and would never put more than the $15k required. Return would be about 10.4 cents on this, given all spending is done in the 6x category. Even then, for someone who burns MR points for premium cabin long hauls(at 6-18 cents a piece) and would otherwise pay cash(or even willing to pay about 60 percent of the cash rate), it is still a toss up on whether putting the spend on the Ascend over the Gold is worth it. Personally, this is too much planning ahead and spend tracking for too little benefit(single night) on this card.

Am I right that the current 150K Hilton ascend sign up offer, for yourself and a partner, would be three free nights. Very doable. For free.
Right now I’m using points to travel MORE and LONGER, but when I have less time it sure does look amazing to go on an aspirational trip like those in the Pacific for just three nights.. wow.
Yeah I would certainly go anywhere in the Caribbean for just three nights, but going to the pacific, because of the time difference/jet lag you might want to combine it with a few nights in cheaper accommodation somewhere else, New Zealand perhaps. Since you don’t want to spend your three night dream vacation super jetlagged

I stayed last year in WS at Dubai Palm. They upgraded my standard room to one category up with a view of Persian gulf. It was a fun night! The hotel seemed a bit small as they constructed it on a man-made island (palm) but it's good luxury hotel.

Joe Hunt - yes, you just can’t get another Aspire card. Also, if you don’t want to keep Aspire card due to AF and thinking of downgrading to Ascend, apply for Ascend first, then downgrade Aspire to Ascend to down to HH card for $0 AF. Conversely, if you like Aspire, you can get Ascend and then upgrade to a second Aspire card. There are videos on this strategy and how to maximize all the SUB’s in the process. Hope it’s not confusing, hope it helps. .... I don’t believe this is the case with Chase. You can only have one United or Marriott, and we all know about the One Sapphire rule.
Dan Dawson Thanks, I will always keep the Aspire because it pays for itself with the free weekend night, $250 airline credit, lounge access and diamond status. If I can supplement it with the Ascend and receive a 150000 point bonus and get a free weekend night after $15000 spend that would be great. I don’t want the card without the sign up bonus.

@@TheCreditShifu That exclusion list only has the Ho'olei at Grand Wailea which is their 2/3 BR villa. I could be wrong but I don't think the entire resort is excluded.

georgesmolkin90 - yep, it’s a hot (but not new) topic in the ski/snowboarding world. The 3 that don’t allow snowboarding are Deer Valley & Alta (both in UT) and Mad River Glen in VT. Taos Ski Valley used to be the 4th, but they changed in 2008.
Yeah I mentioned it because Alta and Deer Valley are both right near Park City UT
