My childhood was eating pumpkin pie in Bishop's Buffet (which they had ALL YEAR LONG) and looking out the window to the Christmas lights on Broadway.

I miss seeing holiday decor on all the light posts all along Broadway. Now all you see is just at Bayliss Park only. The rest of the city gets Grinched. :(

It's probably because of the age range I was at the time, but the Midlands Mall always felt like such a special place at Christmas time.

May be just my age range as well, but something about Midlands Mall seemed friendly and warm; somehow it seemed to have more of a personality than Crossroads, Westroads or later Mall of the Bluffs. The architect described the design as "emphasizing life within the shell, not the shell itself;" maybe they actually did pull off something different than other malls.

The original MM holiday decor was stunning. It was after it was taken over by Dhaliwal Enterprises that they threw it all away and replaced them with abominations.

Can we get a history of newspapers in the bluffs? The nonpareil is about to collapse, would like to hear the story of papers here.

I liked Council Bluffs better about 30 years ago when Broadway seemed more inviting. It does look more modern now but at the cost of giving up their small town feel.

Glad I'm not the only one to think so. Don't get me wrong, some parts are a lot better today, like the West Broadway strip, but you're 100% right about the loss of the 'small town feel'. Today, CB feels more like a suburb of Omaha than it does a small town in its own right.

I was only in that mall once. It didn't impress me much.

That was probably in the 90's and after, right? It totally went downhill after being sold off. It's last owner (Dhaliwal Enterprises) didn't even bother with basic upkeep and just siphoned away rent money from the few remaining vendors.
