I had a 4th gen with a similar problem. If you have a spare TPS laying in your parts bin you can try this. I got the idle RPM to drop from 1300 to 800 on my Firebird by turning the mounting holes on the TPS into slots. It allows the sensor to rotate a few degrees each way before getting locked in place with the screws. With this, I could manually clock the "0" position of the throttle with the engine off and a voltmeter and at idle using a digital tachometer I had. Took 2 years of remove and replace tinkering to find this fix. Hope this works for you too man. Thank you for the content.
Have to say that I was sad at the start when I realised that you gonna sell it... But.. now I like it..:) I live in Estonia.. now Im gonna wanna find a an old soviet tool to send you :D
I've got the same issue of high idle with my 4th gen Formula with an Lt1. I haven't fixed mines yet but since I heard you replaced the IAC, but didn't clean it, that could be the issue, if its really carboned up in there the IAC might not seat fully. Idk if that is your issue, or just an issue, but worth looking at if you didn't.
Wheeee! Donuts with the TransAm, the ultimate family activity! ;) That car is just like a "so bad it's good" B movie, you can't help enjoying it's cheezyness.
On Gen 3's the trashedometer is more important than the mileage. The trashedometer is the amount of door sag, a good indicator of what the car has been through and how well it was maintained. If the driver's door drops an inch when you open it, run away-lol.
Hey thank your lucky stars you have the resources, health, knowledge and lifestyle to keep it. Many dont cant or wont and thqta sad. So enjoy it while you can!
As someone who drives an 80s bimmer because of the memories of them with my sorely-missed late dad, the "small reason" you're keeping it got me teary. I am not too proud to admit the parking lot donut made me outright weep because I have priceless treasured memories in the right seat of his track 325ix in winter, five-pointed as my dad did the same thing around light poles in an abandoned parking lot to make me laugh and shout. You clearly love your son and I can guarantee you the memories you make with him will be ones he carries in his heart forever, like I do as my father's daughter. I may not you know, you may not know me - but from the bottom of my heart seeing the joy of this connection reflected in others means so much to me. Thank you.
that's awesome. I'm sure Bill would approve. I really like it you are totally right about corvette vs f body. I have a C5 corvette and you might as well call it the S S never drive. 2003 with 50k on the clock. its a great era of cars complicated enough to be good but simple enough to fix yourself. Uncle Bill approved. Ime glad you are keeping it for your son. Your a great dad. next generation of gear head.
Hits close to home. My dad built a kit cobra when I was only 4-5 years old, and I absolutely loved that car. Only just now, ~20 years later, he sold it (literally yesterday). Broke my heart a little bit when I heard the news but I suppose it’s good to have money and space for more projects!
Imagine how cool it would be to give him Uncle Bill's car as his first vehicle. I got an old Ford Maverick as my first car growing up and it was the reason for my love of cars today.
My folks (it was my mom's car) had an 87 Camaro RS. My dad loved to do donuts in it. One time he was spinning us around in the school parking lot after we had an inch or two of snow and caught a piece of a light pole. My mom was livid. That's the car I learned to drive in, during the winter, in the rust belt. The speedometer pegged at 85, and it went the fastest 85 of anything by my recollection. When I was in middle school it blew the motor. Dad had me get it ready to pull the old block on a Friday before he got home from work. The plan was to drop a in a new short block the next day. We spent the entire weekend putting the thing back together sun up past sun down, with me getting cussed out, because I put all the parts in one big box as I pulled them off. I miss that car and I miss my dad. I'll always have a soft spot for third gens.
Clean your TB. Specficly the backside of your throttle plate. It should resolve the air flow issue. Also do a drag test on the electrical connection. The female pins can become loose with age. Lol I'll keep that joke private.
Found your channel from the Russian tool vids, what a hidden gem. Love the humour and information you provide, best regards from the land of spring powered marsupials!
6:35 lolololol 20 years ago, I fixed my '96 Ford Thunderbird's check engine light reflecting off the windshield in the 16-hour North Dakota wintertime nights in almost the same way
The Pontiac looks like it's from Back to the Future. The pipe through the T-Tops could be used to connect the pickup wire to the FluxCap & transmit the 1.21 GigaWatts. Maybe you can go back in time to ask Uncle Bill how to fix the high idle. Just an idea. Your videos are really enjoyable. If you continue making them I promise to work on being less of an A-Hole.
This video tugged at the heart strings for sure. My little mini me feels the same about my car. I was discussing selling it with the wife, he got all blue in the face. I shortly did a full repaint and brakes, tires and suspension….. guess it’s staying.
I had a car that made about 600 whp (Naturally Aspirated 434W). I was much happier after I put a couple high flow three-way catalytic converters on it on it. It was much more pleasurable to be around and it didn't really hurt the horsepower like you'd think.
👍thanks for the update man. i'd watched a couple of the other ones too (algo pushed the soviet tools ones pretty hard), but the part 1 trans am vid got the hooks in and binge watched pretty much the rest of your stuff
is it a lot of your videos having this trend? I found your channel in the last few weeks or so and have just been binging a lot of your videos in general. really not sure how I haven't found your channel sooner, so I can't help but be curious if that I'm not the only one who's algorithm is feeding you're vids in large out of nowhere. not that I'm complaining , theyre a real treat to watch and glad that I'm here for a fresh uploads.
I loved your last video on the Trans Am. Kinda hit a feller in the feelers. This one does that even more. Between Uncle Bill spinning out of the garage at the end and the little one giving his approval and showing he has the moxie for it in the future, this is like a right punch to the gut. Makes a guy smile and well up at the same time! We’ve all had an Uncle Bill in our life that we loved despite their flaws who had a greater influence on us than we care to admit. And lord willing, we will all have someone look up to us the same way as we get older. I fully understand the struggle you have about keeping this bird. But I think you are making the right choice!
Bro, do you have an accepted way for me to send a couple of photos of my little project? If not, let me know and I'll post one on my community section in my little channel. I bet that I can get a WT! out of you 😁
after watching the first video you made about this car I'd gone your channel to see if you'd done a follow up - if you hadn't flashed that thumbnail in this video I wouldn't have known there was a second video on it - maybe putting Trans Am in the title would help direct people curious about this car to that video? Or a more zoomed out picture of the car? thumbnail was a bit hard to make out for me personally
Uncle Bill would be happy.

Goddamn I love this channel.
Thank you soo much for not selling the goofy old car your kid loves, I've been that kid, that stuff leaves scars that last decades. You're a good dad.
You don't always get what you want is an important lesson. If you don't learn that as a kid, you'll have plenty of issues in life.

WELL WELL WELL FANCY SEEING YOU HERE.
That last Trans AM video is why I'm here, watching your old and latest stuff.
comment for the mighty algorithm
fuck yeah new video
Was that Uncle Bill backing the car out at the end? 🥺👍
Uncle Bill blasting Carry on Wayward Son in the big house every time you take your boy for a spin better believe it

So when does the Knight Rider interior conversion start? :)

For the Algorithm.
Here you go google, another one for the algorithm.
This guy is the new aVe, taking the reigns of anonymous hands dicking around in the shop and wasting my time.
the soviet tool video was the video that brought me here, but that is definitely the stuff i stayt for!

How long i waited
I had an 84 (305 carb) and an 88 (350 tpi) mostly the same body style and same interior. ...boy, do I miss those cars...
on the idle issue - when it thinks the AC compressor is on, it will kick up to ~1000rpm at idle. I would start there
YES I was just wondering about part 2
Uncle Bill bless his soul what a legend
You know if you give that car to your kid he will spontaneously sprout a mullet and a pregnant girlfriend.
I love this so much
How about modern tools of china compare video if it’s difficult for soviet video

No way, you must have been the one firebird I saw this summer. They quite literally don't exist here in south jersey, even at car shows.
