    His approach is deeply interesting. He works with tiles modules, the 7 frieze groups, the 17 wall paper groups, point groups, and space groups. Space groups are a generalization to the third dimension that can be obtained with these similar geometric construction methods.
    The golden ratio is always a giveaway on all these patterns and so the square root X proportions
    Mohamad strategy is simple, compact, robust and quick getting the best result. This is the inserting point of understanding the Islamic pattern. After all, it's a geometry lesson entirely.
    Thank you so much for these video lessons, Mohamad Aljanabi. These generous lessons go straight to the point with the precise explanations.

    Perhaps I understand why the grid method is employed- it seems to be easier.
    Its taken me the better part of a week of evenings to draw something close to good with the correct method. Its very satisfying to complete and understand the relationship between the different shapes!
    My suggestion for future instructional videos is to put in check points, ie. Check with your compass that this distance here matches this distance there. If not, start again. I created some sadly deformed constructions before I sorted it out 😆😆😆

      Dear Tracey Osterlind, it might look difficult a little in the beginning, but I assure you with little patience it gets easier. Good luck.

    Good morning. To begin with, thank you for bringing the tradicional method to all of us, your work is amazing! I've been admiring this art for a while now and I really wanted to know how to expand to different patterns or how to develop new ones on the tradicional method. The six fold video you made is great, and you tought me how to differenciate a true grid to a fake one. But yet I still don't know how to change a pattern (like the 6 fold) and still maintain the proportion. I would love to get more information about, since it's been really difficult to find other sources that teach the right way. I have to be honest that I just cant watch any other video without knowing if its being constructed correctly or not, or if I should take its ideas. I hope you can help me, thank you very much and have a great day!

      Good morning to you victor and thank you for your kind comment. The presses of developing new patterns will come gradually after becoming more familiar with the rules of this art and the properties of the main shapes of different types of the patterns. There is a video where I explained briefly few methods on how to develop this six fold, I am sorry it is in Arabic, but I will try to translate the video in English soon.

    Thank you so much for producing these videos, it is fascinating to see the construction techniques for these beautiful patterns. You explain them very well. I do have one question, when you combine the final two patterns by splitting them on the diagonal and combining the two halves to form a new pattern... I have tried to make this construction and cannot get a pattern that will tesselate. There are lines that do not meet and asymmetries when combining them. Have I done something wrong, or is there some other step you have not shown? All seven of the other patterns you show in this video work perfectly for me, so I'm assuming I have made some error.

    Amazing videos.
    Is this the base for ALL complex fourfold patterns under the traditional method?

    • @BawabatAlkhatAlarabi
      @BawabatAlkhatAlarabi  7 років тому

      Thank you Mo, yes all fourfold patterns, even the very complex pattern share this principle.

    • @mrabbani08
      @mrabbani08 7 років тому

      Thank you for your reply. Does this not limit the designs to a confined base? In other words, aren’t you giving up possibilities of potential design in order to have symmetry across the design? For example what if you WANT to have two diamonds of two different sizes in the design, would that not be allowed under the traditional method in order to preserve the properties of the design as you mentioned in an earlier video?
      Is there a book or anything you can recommend to learn these principles/techniques in the traditional method?
      And please upload more videos in English, they are very informative.

    • @BawabatAlkhatAlarabi
      @BawabatAlkhatAlarabi  7 років тому

      Thank you Mo. On the contrary, in fact preserving symmetry will help to develop the design further in many ways. If you put different sizes of the same shape in the pattern you will not be able to develop the pattern any further and it will result in deforming the pattern. Watch this video on this link and you will see what happen when you put two similar shapes but of different sizes in the same pattern.
      ua-cam.com/video/2NadSTLwpcY/v-deo.html
      On the other hand, if you preserve symmetry it is possible to develop the very same pattern shown on the above link and in many ways. Watch the next video, I am sorry that the second video is still in Arabic, but I am sure that you will understand from the demonstration, if you advance the video up to 2 minutes, you will see that because the size of the similar shapes was preserved, it was possible to develop the pattern in many way.
      ua-cam.com/video/Yd9aczRdk58/v-deo.html
      Finally, I am sorry to say that there are no books which deal with this subject at all, not even in Arabic. I have been collecting books since 1979 and to many famous authors. And every one of them is simply copping the mistakes of the previous author. This very pattern in the two above links was mentioned in page 70 in "Arabic Geometrical Pattern and Design" by J. Bourgoin published in 1973. This book is really a translation of "les elèments de l'art arabe" which was published in 1879. Since then every author copied the same mistakes of that book. This pattern mentioned in in the above links actually exists in Alhambra. But none of these authors has ever compared their drawings with it.
      But not to wary my book on this subject will be published soon, and it will be in Arabic and English. And all my videos have an Arabic and English version apart from that one video I mention above.
      Thank you

      Thank you for your comment Abbas. Unfortunately there is not a single book that deals with this subject correctly. Watch my other videos no my channel and you will see the mistakes in most if not all these books. They cannot draw the simplest pattern.

    Amazing videos...!!! I use to follow "Islamic Geometric Pattern" by Eric Broug. No I understood the total logic and meaning behind the patterns and proportions..!!! Could you please tell me any book to go through what you explains in videos. Do you have your own book? I want to learn the right way of constructing the geometric patterns. Thanks. Once again, your videos are amazing.

      Thank you Juber, I am sorry to say that there is not a single book that deals with this subject correctly, including "Islamic Geometric Pattern". All of them use inconsistent methods, sometimes they get the patterns right and sometimes they don’t, they get wrong results even in the simplest patterns. Furthermore these methods could not handle the complicated pattern. At the moment I am in the process of writing a book, I will explain in detail around 500 different patterns. From the most simple to the most complicated patterns. I hope you can wait my friend.
      And thank you again.

      My friend I can't give a definite date, up to now I completed in detail more over 350 different patterns, i.e. more than two third of what I intend to publish. And yes inshallh I can send it to India, and it will be in both Arabic and English
