I love it when Bill gives positive advice. He's real, he won't tell you to quit your day job, and he'll tell you to eat right and go to the gym (regardless of your problem).

This is a great vid, I'm doing something similar at 27 after accepting that I will never be happy with my cubicle job. Totally agree with the part about people living on autopilot.

Just did it last night for the first time at 26. Don't expect to make a career out of it, but it was the most fun/stressful thing I've done in a loooooong time! If I can keep it as a hobby, I'll be happy.

+HittokiriBatosai How did it go? I mean, I'm no pro, but I'm definitely the funnyguy at work. Crowds scare the shit out of me though. I mean, how much did you think about it before you took the mic?

+Jonathan Unger its a weekly show I was a fan of for a while before going up. I brought 7 friends as moral support but also as witnesses to make sure I don't pussy out lol I wrote out 3 "bits" barely a minute each, forgot to say one and basically ran off the stage soon as I got what I perceived was a laugh. stressssssss but a giddy mofo right after it was done.

lol yes "man," and yes still at it. Especially jazzed this week, I just saw a buddy of mine killllllll in front of Kurt Metzger Friday and I feel my current 5 getting stronger than ever. I like jokes, but really need to work on the performance aspect, presence, confidence, projecting my voice, pacing/rhythm etc. Work in progress.

HittokiriBatosai that's great, i wish you the best. i guess we're about the same age, i'm 28. i've been thinking about doing it for years now, but have always been afraid of rejection. now i'm sick and waiting for surgery and staying with my parents. kinda put things in perspective. when i get better and back on my feet i really want to try it, too. only live once. i'm glad you tried it and are enjoying it. good luck friend.

One thing about standup, in my opinion - you want to be any good, you have to have a good writing material. If you are in your early 20s, odds are that you still haven't fully developed as a person, you don't have your own unique brand of wisdom and sense of humour, and you probably don't even know, in the depth of your heart, what story do you want to tell other people. So with standup, writing, screenwriting, filmmaking - later is probably even better than earlier. Ultimately, your personality is the foundation for your writing, so take as much time to build that foundation as you need.

I started stand up at the young age of 36! I’m 37 now only been doing it a year and I absolutely love it! I still have a full-time job but try to go out 3 to 4 nights a week to open mics. I have had good nights and I’ve had bad nights but I will not give up I will get good! Age is just a number if you want to do it, do it!

I'm 29, and I'm about to start doing stand up. I kind of stumbled on this video, and in the first minute I thought I was really onto something. Then, all of a sudden, I got schooled on what to do if I'm ever skydiving.
    Thanks, Billy.

I'm 26 and just started writing my novel and learning filmmaking. I love the craft of storytelling so much that I would give my left tit to carry coffee around a movie set if I could. My main problem like everyone else's is money, so I can't get from point A to point B from my little town to the big city. So the goal now is to write, learn and save so hopefully I can get my ass to a movie set by 30 doing whatever, I don't care as long as I'm there.

You can do a jump where somebody pulls your shoot and you're basically attached to them. It's a scary experience only for the simply fact that in the back of your mind you're thinking - "OH shit this isn't natural, i'm supposed to die by doing this."
But realistically people have been doing it long enough and the statistics of death are so low that it's worth trying if you feel like it (I know that sounds awful but its true lol)

I play the guitar, Im pretty good at it after 15 years. it always kills me when my friend tells me how he would love to be able to do it, and then he rambles this bullshit about how he wishes he would have started earlier. he's been telling this for years already, and Ive said from the very beginning just to start and try it out. grab the moment my friend seize the day, carpe diem, whole cake of cliches here you go sir/madam. Dont be like my friend.

JustSomeGuyOk Shit man, that's not too bad. That's $1600 a month. I'm not sure what rent is like in Canada, but where I live you can rent a pretty decent place for 600-800, you just have to look around. Don't choose the first stupid apartment you find. Try to find a mobile home on a private piece of property for rent, not in a trailer park. It's just like a house on stilts.. but you'll have a yard and not be connected to your annoying neighbors like in an apartment.
