The third criteria for trendiness should be social media clout. If people are specifically using a specific item as a tactic to drive views because it performs well with the algorithm and FYP in general, then it's officially a trend. You can definitely see the moment when everyone realizes an item is performing well with audiences and it starts showing up in every GRWM.
To me something timeless is something that is well manufactured. A nicely made jacket or shoe or pant is going to be timeless because it literally will pass the test of time. Something trendy is something you don’t mind getting at the thrift just to try it out or getting from fast fashion brands. A clean well made not distressed article of clothing is something that you won’t separate from, it will be timeless in your wardrobe. Quality to me is timeless.
kinda late but i think your both right and wrong. Many items can be manufactured extremely well and yes, be considered timeless. However, js because they’re manufactured well does not mean they’re timeless. For example, an extremely high quality cardigan made from the wool of a llamas balls doesn’t necessarily make it timeless.
I don't think a brand can ever be timeless. Brands do come and go, and bankruptcies happen. Timelessness to me relates to colors, fabrics, and silhouettes, like denim. Sure the shape of denim changes year to year, but the fabric and its traditional indigo coloring is a staple in so many wardrobes. Not to mention silk, which has been a staple for 5,000 years. #pvv I would love to see your take on areas of fashion you don't usually gravitate towards, it always interests me to hear from people outside of certain fashion circles.
I think brands can be timeless, if they are inextricably linked to specific timeless products. I would say Levi's 501 and trucker jackets are timeless products and the brand itself becomes timeless through that. Same with stuff like Converse All Stars. You can wear the same shoe by a different brand but people will always associate the model with the brand.
@@mgg9416 Perhaps a new phrase should be coined for articles of clothing that have lasted in the fashion zeitgeist but not long enough to put a serious dent in history. Timeless is more of a buzz word than anything else, unfortunately.
Form my experience the Sambas are the perfect example of Trendy AND timeless. They’ve always been considered by my peers and perspective as an OG, timeless shoe that’s one of the staples of adidas. But now the tiktok trends emphasizing them and re-contextualizing the looks with them is the trendy part. And that’s not bad! Just like Jordan’s are out of trend now but are also timeless, these are examples of how trends rotate but timeless is a more wide-encompassing term that has to do with previous social standards
In my view, different fashion items and styles can be both trending and timeless. Trends are almost like statistical analysis of a given community study group. Drew's analysis of his community probably pertains, mostly to US folks. I'm seeing a resurgence of Sambas in Los Angeles too lol. Really awesome content. Thank you! I'm subbed!
Dropped just in time for my lunch break. Thanks Drew! I always try to balance the two. Some pieces can be worn with anything, and that's great. But trends are important because they allow the consumer to delve into a style that they may not have
Can you do a video on the timeline of how you came to find your sense of style? I’m having trouble figuring out what genres of fashion I like and how to merge them into a functional outfit that works. Thanks drew, keep up the good work!
Huge respect for your attitude. I think people are waking up to the idea that it makes no fucking sense whatsoever to declare opinions as facts and then go to the grave defending them as such. A little epistemic humility never hurt anyone.
I feel like you tread so lightly haha. You really don’t have to apologize for having an opinion. As long as your opinion is educated, whether people agree with it or not, it’ll be respected. I watch your channel to hear your opinion! - much love x
I think it’s funny when we talk about sambas due to the fact that growing up I have always played futbol (soccer) and sambas were always my go to when it came to indoor. I would nag my parents about buying them for me and now seeing them skyrocket again is pretty cool honestly
So, my take: I don't think that items of clothing are truly timeless, but certain colors that they are made in can be timeless. Meaning that people wore clothing in this color centuries ago and people still wear clothing in that color to this day. For example, I would consider black to be a timeless color.
Hey Drew, I've been consuming your content for a while now and i can say that what the topics that you brought up in your last videos made me think quite a lot. I live on the other side of the world and we are constantly being told (mainly by older generations) that we all dress the same, mostly because of globalization and the internet and other similar factors. Funny how though, that's not the case at all. Both trendy and timeless manifest themselves in very different ways all across the globe. Im pretty sure that anyone who has their own specific style (unless they live in very fashion-focused places such as Paris, london or NYC) will always manage to seize the attention of others for what they wear, willingly or unwillingly. Keep up with the good work, love from Trieste Italy.
I was having the worst day at work, and getting the notification that you posted a new video was a genuine mood-boost, dude. Timelessness vs trendiness is never gonna be an exact science, but it's more fun like that, right? We all have different takes, just like any other art form - it's the conversation about why we see things the way we see them that's interesting. And dude, I'm glad you're having fun with the videos lately - honestly, I think it def shows in your work. #pvv man, you gotta drop that "anime fashion icons" video someday lol. And every time we get to see footage that *you* shoot, with the S-tier editing skills you've got - it's always pure art. Idk - w/e you do, just keep having fun with it, dude. Nothing but love ✌️
made it for the #pvv again, sheesh. my idea for a video you could do is how much youth culture defines fashion. The relationship between style and living; what we consume, not just on social media but like our day-to-day activities, the jobs we have, the shows we like to watch, the bonds we form with. I feel like that would be a really interesting episode even though i think you've already done something like this before (I'm not sure though).
Shoutout #pvv gang! Would love it if you made "A day in the life of Drew" vlog/video. The ones you've done during trips to Toronto and Netherlands were super cool , and I think it would be great to have that type of video but from a regular day of yours. Maybe walk us through your creative process for making videos, sourcing ideas, what you like to do for fun outside of UA-cam, etc... Thanks for the great content as always man!
i definitely agree that trendy and timeless aren't mutually exclusive, you present these ideas so thoughtfully! #pvv i've enjoyed your videos on how social media phenomena affect fashion if there's anything you've been keeping an eye on lately!!
One criterium I always use to differentiate between trendy and timeless is gimmicks. For example carhartt pants and jackets are timeless. You can always wear them outside of trends and they will look good. But thrifting destroyed carhartt pants is just a gimmick and can only be trendy. Same goes for crocs. Crocs by themselves are timeless by now (probably). But the balenciaga rainboot crocs are too gimmicky to be timeless. Same with excessively baggy jeans and excessively cropped hoodies right now. Too gimmicky to be timeless.
I feel like trendy can eventually lead to timelessness. I personally believe that the state of fashion today has elevated more trends to potential timelessness! #pvv something I would like for you to talk more about is how do you find the "best brands" or best "up and coming brands" for example the brands that you've mentioned in a few of your recent videos like "5 Underrated Fashion Brands I've Been Gatekeeping" - What are some things you separate from one brand as being the best and another as not worth buying?
In my opinion, the All Starts Coverse and the Weejun loafers are a timeless shoe as you say: not anymore in 200 years. but they have been around since the 1950s. For this time, these shoes can carry the name timeless. I last wore the converse when I was 16 and that was 20 years ago. I have been wearing the Weejuns for about 4 years
One video idea is Afrocentrism in Fashion. I think there has been influence with African print and fashion styles since the 60s and it would be interesting to see how the African culture has influenced western culture especially with things like black panther influence and Paris fashion week
#pvv My girl and I were literally just wondering while watching; would you be down to make more self care/wellbeing content as it relates to fashion? My girlfriend specifically wanted to see skincare, actually. I also feel like videos on how YOU take care of your clothes would be very interesting, specifically in like a vlog format. Just spitballing some ideas here, but I think the wellbeing video idea is pretty strong! Happy to hear you've been enjoying making content even more lately Drew, it definitely reflects in your energy levels in the videos. Keep it up bro!
#pvv yerrrr personally i really enjoy the vlogs and longer format videos. They’re always done very well and sometimes I rewatch them just to have something playing in the background when cleaning or something uk.
Any trends atm that I go for or hop onto are ones I can see myself wearing in 5 years or so getting to the point of life where I can’t be arsed to keep up with everything and just want my core comfy stuff that I feel good in
Great topic, I totally agree with your point of view. Have to say that it's a really weird concept to think something can be trendy at a moment and then just become something timeless. Like how
I discovered your channel today and I like your content a lot! You are such a great speaker, you are very articulate and you make things really entertaining, I’m very glad UA-cam recommended your videos
I definitely think that timeless pieces is the next big trend , if that makes sense? The “old money style” has been trending a lot these days and old money style is basically clean timeless pieces .
I think that to consider what is timeless we should not consider that brand is timeless but more of a shape because actually the shape of the Air Force ones or the shape of the Jordan ones the dunks they all look the same. This is the same shape with a little bit a little different and it’s the same thing for other pair of shoes and also you know clothes so this is what is timeless not the brand but the shape. Even though some brand will always be in the air like Nike or Adidas, or all the luxury brands.
For me a timeless item would be an item which emerged from a trend or technological innovation and became very popular to the point that after the trend died people still wear it.
so i guess we never finding out the third reason LOLL loving the vids Drew! #pvv fashion theory videos like the one you made a while ago abt silhouettes and proportions have been some of my favorite vids from this channel, especially bc of how beginner friendly the channel is.
I'm still wrapping my head around how something created in the 50s and still popular, still a silhouette individuals and brands want to collab on can be considered trendy. It literally has remained relevant, which speaks to timelessness. However, your perception is your reality.
#pvv i think naming or listing ur favorite brands or designers would be a good concept, like having a list can give your audience a much deeper idea on what kind of fashion you really like and tailor ur style into since FASHION IS SUBJECTIVE, it would be really nice to see what kind of fashion you have been influenced to.
I think some people need to realize just because its "trendy" right now does not mean its bad, or that it will die. Some trends can become timeless kind of like how you said crocs will always be worn. And if you truly like the clothes in trend right now don't listen to anyone else wear it and continue to wear it after the trend dies thats what makes fashion fun you can wear what ever you want.
Here are some videoideas I came up in a few minutes! Discovering new brands and designers Deep dives into designers and to their history/journey, for example Demna would be interesting, since he is one of the most influential designers of 2010s who does not have their own brand. Color theory in outfits: not just color blocking/choosing clothes that work together but also picking the best colors for you skin tones (what works best for warm/cool tone skin etc.) and hair etc. Similar to the one above you could also do a video on proportions and silhouettes and how you can try to play with them for different body types. It could be like 2 part series of how to dress yourself the best with part 1 being silhouettes etc. and part 2 being colors. You could do a Denver shopping tour where you visit and browse your favorite local stores and show some favorite pieces you come up with while browsing. Could also include a trip to the thrift! those are some things I would love to see from you that I think could fit to your style of making videos! Keep up the great work 🙏🏻 #pvv
loved this vid as always. think the resell ability point rings true in the short term, but timeless items have better long term resale value. but this also depends on the category!
Trendy vs timeless I suppose something timeless is something that is widly accepted by the public but doesnt have that wow-factor. What comes to mind as an example are jeans. They first had a practical use --> then they were evolved into something that strayed away from the initial purpose by individuals who liked the way they looked (becoming trendy) --> finally becoming widly accepted and constantly adjusted to what is trendy at any given time period. While the fundamental idea of the them remaining timeless. PVV: It must be very difficult to tackle a topic like this in 10 min. I wouldnt mind longer more fleshed out videos, I would like to see a deep dive into something you enjoy to talk about. Your doing a great job though, keep it up!
I adore flared jeans and always have, but I couldnt really find a pair in my size when they 'weren't trendy' ie during the skinny jeans era, its only ONCE they became trendy that I could easily find a pair, but ik they're a staple for me
My opinion is that timeless fashion doesn’t exist within fashion, fashion is just people spending a lot of money on expensive trendy clothing. Timeless clothing is the clothes your average person would buy, for example denim jeans, people who don’t care about fashion whatsoever still wear denim jeans. idk if that makes sense but yeah, that’s my take.
The issue with the word timeless is are own existence because we die we can really know if any thing in our window of time is actually timeless “ the looking back 500 years” was a perfect point to this. All of are clothes are trendy because of the nature of fashion to change everything because is going to become trendy. The chances of finding something that’s not gonna become trendy is looking for something that never been rain on in the rainforest. It may not be wet to day but eventually dawg it’s gonna rain in the rainforest and it’s gonna be trendy no matter what it is in fashion
#pvv Honestly as a follow up, I think it would be a cool video for you to style trendy outfits from your wardrobe and timeless outfits in your opinion.
The samba and gazelle is a cultish shoe in the city I live in (Liverpool). It's always been involved in football culture and even has a section in the Walker Art Gallery for 2022 (created by students at Liverpool John Moores University). However, despite this it's undeniably 'trendy' and with the rise of Blokecore it's definitely been re-popularised among a wider, more global audience. Great videos as always my man. People may disagree but the whole point is to stimulate discussion and learn together. #PVV Can't lie I wanna see some more vlog style fashion content, learn more about Denver and surrounding areas.
It’s so funny seeing people get pressed because they’re called out on following trends. It’s true don’t have any shame in it, everyone follows trends don’t get upset because you’re being pointed out. Also there’s a few items that have lasted for hundreds of years such as sandals and leather boots. Both were created in Roman times!
pvv gang. 👊🏽👊🏽 A good video idea might be talking about what you plan to wear for Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving dinners. Some ppl don’t really think about it much while others dress to impress for Thanksgiving.
As someone who grew up in the UK I can’t relate to you saying the samba is a trend, most of my life the adidas samba has been involved somehow, specially if you’ve grown up around football. I guess it’s more of a trend in the US yes
I don't understand your shoe opinions. The Sambas, a shoe that has entered its peak yet has still been popular for ages, is trendy. But Crocs, a shoe that has entered its peak and hasn't shown any longevity in fashion is timeless. Ok, You do you Drew what it do. I think the Croc trend has affected and reached more people recently which in my eyes shows it's a trend. Crocs were once hated now loved which perhaps shows a trend cycle. Whereas Sambas were never communally looked upon as bad, showing timelessness. Sure the Sambas may be at their peak but I don't think they'll ever fall off like the crocs once had. Just my two cents. Decent vid none the less.
Honestly, I think trends kinda merge into timeless. Something usually is a timeless piece for a reason right, so when people find out about that timeless piece and like it, they’ll post it (influencers mostly) and turn it into a trend. For example sambas or Jordan 1s. They are timeless pieces but they have had their peak moments these past years. It kinda of goes hand n hand tbh. I think what could be identified as trendy would be out there designs, like inside out jeans, or even tire sole shoes, etc etc. PVV: I think history behind fashion and also even interior design would be dope af.
Ngl in your last video when you said boot cut jeans were trendy but somehow wide fitting jeans are timeless you lost me cause I’ve always seen people wear boot cut jeans and seen them have a section in stores but wide cut jeans I’ve seen them just recently being worn and even having their own section in stores.
Bar berry and Ralph luaren clothing companies that have been around for years that’s timeless . You can wear any of there clothes 5 years from now and still be fire in a crowd . Jordan retro’s have been out for years and still in style . I’m 40 years old all this stuff was in style when I was a baby . Any thing that as been around 40 or 50 years and more is what you want .
I think its also an invidual opinion. For example if I found my style to be workwear for me it could be timeless and I will wear it for years while others move forward and continue to wear new trends
#pvv I know that you're into manga and anime, maybe you can make a video talking about your all time favorites, or about some unknown animes or mangas that you think the people should know about, and perhaps you can talk about fashion and what some japanese manga makers draw regarding nowadays fashion or smh like that. Btw I have some recommendations of anime that I think almost everyone that is passionate about it will love, first Ahiru No Sora, 2nd ReLife, 3rd Noragami. As I'm talking about animes I want to highlight Ash's big archivement on finally becoming world champion 🤣🤣
Now that is the world cup, I think it would be cool to check some football players outfits, and talk about them, try checking leroy Sane and Gnabry i think you'll like them.

Discovering new brands and designers
Deep dives into designers and to their history/journey, for example Demna would be interesting, since he is one of the most influential designers of 2010s who does not have their own brand.
Keep up the great work 🙏🏻 #pvv
nah yeah, it's crazy how popular sambas got this year.
loved this vid as always. think the resell ability point rings true in the short term, but timeless items have better long term resale value. but this also depends on the category!
True! Very good point
Trendy vs timeless
I suppose something timeless is something that is widly accepted by the public but doesnt have that wow-factor.
A dope video idea would be like a house tour /room tour
I adore flared jeans and always have, but I couldnt really find a pair in my size when they 'weren't trendy' ie during the skinny jeans era, its only ONCE they became trendy that I could easily find a pair, but ik they're a staple for me
Loving these videos
More to come!
Right here with you in denver man! Love the videos
That Story mfg shirt/jacket looks insane, shame it's almost a grand haha
Video idea: fashion brand tierlist, top 5 most favorite and most hated by Drew
Adidas Samba and trainers like that ,have been timeless and fashionable in England for years and Europe.
Love your editing
#pvv I would love some guide videos like “Fundamentals of Building an Outfit” or similar. Love your videos, keep up the good work Drew!
I feel like I've watched this video like five times now
The issue with the word timeless is are own existence because we die we can really know if any thing in our window of time is actually timeless “ the looking back 500 years” was a perfect point to this.
#pvv would love to see a style evolution and where you think you’re going with your current style
#pvv. Love all your vids so keep it up! Also, pretty cool to see footage of Twice from their Vogue video in this vid. Didn’t expect that lol
#pvv A video where you show us your closet wardrobe and pull out some fits you think are appropriate for fall.
PVV-your fashion journey
#pvv Honestly as a follow up, I think it would be a cool video for you to style trendy outfits from your wardrobe and timeless outfits in your opinion.
nice video to end the sunday!
I was on vacation in Colorado all week and highly disappointed that I didn't run into you.
🤷🏾♂️
It’s so funny seeing people get pressed because they’re called out on following trends. It’s true don’t have any shame in it, everyone follows trends don’t get upset because you’re being pointed out.
Also there’s a few items that have lasted for hundreds of years such as sandals and leather boots. Both were created in Roman times!
pvv gang. 👊🏽👊🏽
A good video idea might be talking about what you plan to wear for Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving dinners. Some ppl don’t really think about it much while others dress to impress for Thanksgiving.
#pvv video idea: fashion subculture tier list. where you rank different types of fashion subgroups into what you like the most
or any other type of tier lists. eg. seasonal clothing tier list
I’m getting into watches and I think they’re timeless.
#pvv would LOVE to see a video dedicated to sustainable brands and how to shop sustainably 🌱
#pvv trends for next year or the ones that excite you the most
Ngl in your last video when you said boot cut jeans were trendy but somehow wide fitting jeans are timeless you lost me cause I’ve always seen people wear boot cut jeans and seen them have a section in stores but wide cut jeans I’ve seen them just recently being worn and even having their own section in stores.
#pvv Do a 10 best/worst Items of a specific brand series please
also great vid❤
My face when twice popped up in the video --> :)
I think its also an invidual opinion. For example if I found my style to be workwear for me it could be timeless and I will wear it for years while others move forward and continue to wear new trends
Are there any interesting brand outside of EU, US and JAPAN? Maybe a video on that?
#pvv I know that you're into manga and anime, maybe you can make a video talking about your all time favorites, or about some unknown animes or mangas that you think the people should know about, and perhaps you can talk about fashion and what some japanese manga makers draw regarding nowadays fashion or smh like that.
Btw I have some recommendations of anime that I think almost everyone that is passionate about it will love, first Ahiru No Sora, 2nd ReLife, 3rd Noragami.
As I'm talking about animes I want to highlight Ash's big archivement on finally becoming world champion 🤣🤣
#pvv
-videos that give ideas about christmas/holiday gifts! aka items that almost everyone can appreciate
-winter jacket must haves
#pvv I would like to see updated videos on how to grow an audience in 2023, day in a life vids, content creator tips and a Q&A
Now that is the world cup, I think it would be cool to check some football players outfits, and talk about them, try checking leroy Sane and Gnabry i think you'll like them.
