  • This one is for every new or expecting parent who lives outside of the nine states that currently have state-sponsored parental leave programs. 👀
I know, it sucks! I think it is unjust and cruel that the majority of American parents have no access to paid leave. Hopefully this will change in the future, but in the meantime, here are your options to still get paid and take time off with your new baby.
    1) Short term disability insurance
Only for birthing parents and you have to sign up before you’re pregnant. This is usually something you can sign up for through your employer.
    2) Directly through your employer
If your employer doesn’t offer any parental leave, maybe it’s time to consider working somewhere that has a more inclusive and supportive system in place for parents. 😅
I know, I know, much easier said than done. But if you are living in a state without paid leave and are already considering a job switch, check out @theskimm huge list of companies across the US that offer parental leave before applying anywhere else! I’ve linked it in my bio for you ❤️
You might also be eligible for FMLA which is UNPAID job protection. You must have been employed with your company for the last 12 months, worked over 1,250 hours, and your company must have more than 50 employees.
