  • This is a Steampunk Pipe Lamp made from a Vintage Springfield Weather Station. I used the plaque as a base for the whole thing. I sanded out the old finish and stained the wood with Red Oak 215 stain from Minwaw. I sanded between each coat starting from 225 grit, 500 grit, to 1000 grit.
    The large straight water valve was a piece of scrap my Dad had from a old building he demoed. I hollowed out the inside so a Rotary Switch would fit snug inside. I used the brass tip from the switch to solder to the shaft from the valve. It worked perfectly. I did have to shave off some of the reverse threads on the shaft so it would spin freely. I used the 1in belt sander.
    I removed the weather station instruments from the plaque and removed the backs. I replaced the backs with 1/2 inch floor flanges using hot glue. This way they would be able to screw rite in to any pipe fitting. I used scrap copper pipe and soldered copper presser cup male adapter fittings on the ends to add a nice contrast to the brass instruments. The copper coil is really easy too. you just wrap the 25 foot refrigerator copper coil around a 3 inch pvc pipe. Then cut to length. Then I used brass male connector fittings to attach the coil to the structure.
    All the lamp stuff came from old lamps that I took apart and kept all the nuts, bolts, and any bass peaces that I might need for these types of projects. The back on the right side is connected using a Copper and Brass Union fitting.

    One of the best steampunk lamps I’ve seen! However, here in this country the fittings and other materials would cost about $700. Pretty expensive for a lamp.

      Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Yes, it would definitely be too expensive for me to make if I bought the pieces. Everything was scrap or found stuff. My Father did demolition. I used a bunch of stuff he scavenged from the job sites.

    Love your work. Just saw this video and I hit subscribe immediately. Where do you get the springs in some of your videos ? Or do you fabricate them with copper tubing ?

      Thank you so much for your comment. It makes me fell really good to hear you say that. The copper tubes are really easy to make. You just take the copper tube and wrap It around a PVC Pipe. Thanks again for the nice comment. I really appreciate it.

      Thank you. I usually build most of it 1st. That way I can experiment then take it all back apart. Clean everything up then film the assembly. Thank you for watching. I really appreciate it.

    This is extremely inspiring! I just put in a large order for pipe fittings and I have so many ideas for things to make. Where do you get your creativity from! I would not have thought to do some of the things you have done.

    Good afternoon. How much does such a lamp cost?

    • @drewdoesart9277
      @drewdoesart9277  Рік тому +1

      Well to buy everything new it would be a lot. like TOO Much for a lamp. LOL however I got most everything from scrap. The weather station came from old junk from my patents house. The valves and copper for the coil and most of the fittings came from scrap. My Father was a Pipe Fitter before he passed. I inherited all his tools and junk for that matter. Most Everything I had to clean up with wire brushes. I did have to buy some stuff like the copper union. and the bulbs obviously. maybe a few little things to make thing work but very minimal.
      Thanks for the comment.

    How much?

    • @drewdoesart9277
      @drewdoesart9277  2 місяці тому

      To make from new parts would cost about $800. But I mostly used collected, found, or scrap parts. If I were to sell it, it would cost too much for a lamp. Maybe 1k. So I could make another one.
