      Thank you! I really appreciate it. I played music my whole life, and spent all my energy mastering the bass. After playing with you, I couldn't stand playing with anyone else. lol seriously, you spoiled me. I did try to play in other bands, but nothing ever worked out. So... I needed something different to put my energy into. Film, video/editing are very similar to audio engineering, so that was an easy transition. As far as Blacksmithing/Bladesmithing, I always loved swords so I made some miniature swords and got hooked. They just started getting bigger and bigger. Soon I'll be making actual swords. My very 1st video and small sword was 3 years ago almost exactly. So.. to answer your question 3 Years.

      Thats a great question! If I could go back and change something, I would probably get a 10 ton log splitter instead of the 5 ton. But it does work. I used it a few times to draw out material. It does make things go quicker than hammering by hand. But it's not lightning fast either. It might only go a little bit quicker, but it is a whole lot easier than drawing everything out by hand. I still haven't tried to make Damascus, yet. But that is something I want to try very soon. Or at lease a San-Mai billet.

      I think you can run it upside down if you want. I would test it and make sure it works good before you build it that way. I wanted the ram on top too. lol But this way seemed to make the most sense for my setup.

      It took about 40 minutes total that time. I did another video where I explain the process in more detail. If you use a bigger probe it'll etch faster. Or if you have a larger container with more volume it might take longer. Thats why l like to check it every 10 minutes or so. ua-cam.com/video/C2n2CM9s-1k/v-deo.html

      Yes, I’m using graphite paper to transfer the images onto the wood. To transfer the images onto the metal I started using Dura-Lar Transfer paper because it’s clear. It’s kind of a different process though. But I do show how I use that in a newer etching video that I did.

    • @drewdoesart9277

      Thank you. The fullering dies base plate is 1/4 in mild steel, the round bar welded to the top is 4140. The flat dies are only mild steel for now. Until I can get some more tool steel. How many tons will your press be?

    • @sankojin
      @sankojin Місяць тому

      @@drewdoesart9277 Thank you for getting back to me. I was going to use 4140 but not sure if it needs to be heat treated. I have a piece left over from a hammer I made and wanted to use that but also wanted to save it for something else. Do you think 1045 would work as good? My press will be about 29 tons. I made the frame based on the iron coal forge one. It turned out pretty good. I was very happy when I got all the hydraulic lines hooked up and ran it with no leaks. Anyway, thank you again.

    • @drewdoesart9277
      @drewdoesart9277 Місяць тому

      @@sankojin 29 tons is Awesome! The only thing I regret is not going with a 10 or 12 ton log splitter. 29 tons should be really great. As far as the Die goes, I think heat treating it would help it to last longer without deforming. But the heat treat will get ruined anyway since the hot steel will be sitting on the dies so much anyway. I never used 1045 before. But I'm sure it'll work. Just make sure the billet you're working is nice and hot. Plus you can alway make new dies in the future.
