    It's refreshing to see an indie comic with a high panel count on each page. It's rare to see pages with more than 7 panels these days. Most CG books are at least 50% splash pages and the rest of the pages only have 3 or 4 panels. There is almost no story and nothing really happens. Meanwhile, Yaira has a self contained story with an actual beginning, middle and end.

      @jdatalkscomics  4 місяці тому +8

      It's because more panels are difficult on the artists. I try to limit mine to 5-6 except rare circumstances just so it's not taxing on the artist.

    I sit about the same. I'd rate it about a 9, though. Once the jarring parts started, i had a feeling the cinema side of the Soskas would come out, and it helped my enjoyment of the book, by looking forward to the answers i knew were coming. I can understand the way it was set up being a negative to some people though, especially if they're going in blind. It does pan out through the book and flows into the story well.
    I'll also say, i believe a lot of the mystery around Yaira in the book was a bit of fun with/for the fans. Just teasing us by making us wait that much longer 😆
    Im biased in favor of rippaverse, but i think this was a fair review. I know others won't think so.

    This has to be the most awful review of anything I've ever seen. It's just an overview, not an accurate one either. At places the art was so bad it made me wonder what I was looking at. Some of the responses in dialogue also made no sense. And no, we don't learn anything about Yaira's past.
    Her arc: She followed "him" in leaving her authoritarian planet and wants to find "him"; She lands on Earth and falls in love with the first human she meets; none of her children have her powers, she decides to leave so she won't watch them die; generations later, when her genes are deluded, for some reason a mexican girl who is her descendant unlocks her powers and unleashes a SKY BEAM; the three people from Yaira's world just so happened to be flying next to Earth at that exact moment to see it so the rest of the story can happen...
    We don't know what Yaira did on her home world, we don't know who "he" is, we don't know what she did on Earth after she left Iceland, we don't know why Alpha Core are after her, we don't know what she did to become a notorious supervillain (or at least be labeled as such), and we definitely don't know why Altona helped her after clearly seeing that Sally is Yaria. Though the Clark Kent disguise was really cringe.
    Not to mention they left the 180 degree head turn Eric initially claimed he didn't know about even though the ink was teased in a previous comic. Speech bubbles point to someone talking off-panel but since we know there are a few people in the scene we don't know who exactly said the lines. Stephanya's hair switches sides in the last pages. It's written like a cheap TV show. But at least Debora can draw better hands than Joe Bennett, if she's the one who drew them that is.

  • @andyradart8498
    @andyradart8498 4 місяці тому +4

    I thought it was Ok, had some decent development with Yaira, but the dialogue was repetitive and the art was all over the place. Clearly more than one artist drew this book and at least one of them wasn't very good.

      @@arsp2691 Yeah me too! But in some of the panels in Yaira there’s a man know looks like he’s using a super computer like Batman… it’s like a side story within yaira… unless I missed something in the panels that explains that character… so I thought they were dropping a sneak peak to what Horseman is doing at that same time as Yaira is fighting her enemies

    All this hullabaloo about the Rippaverse, and they're just generic, derivative, bland stories from the bronze age of comics..

    I really like what EJ is doing. But the art in this book looks awful. You guys are going to become no different to the people writing the trash modern comics if you cant criticize (i dont mean this softball JDA feedback) anything in the ripperverse. I bet you will never here G&Gers , nerdrotic and the rest say anything bad about the books. I dont blame the the guys for having each others backs as that's what I would do too. Its just going to make their hyper criticism on everyone else's comics, stories, films seem inauthentic and a grift.
