Hindsight is 20/20. You were correct in your prediction about the season. Slaf struggled during season one. Slaf made adjustments to his game and came out of season two with overwhelming improvement. Had Slaf played like he did in season two during season one, he could have won the Calder trophy. I believe the Habs have a winner in Slaf and his career will be what the Habs need to become a contender again.

Dach is passive and has a bad shot. Maybe a good third line center who is playmaker .Hawks got Nazer. He might end up being nothing but the same . A high motor guy on the third line. Will see. The 23 draft looks stacked with snipers . I want a guy that does everything well. That's why I like Fantilli. The guy also hits to hurt much like Ovi does. Plays a two way game. The track record on high picked power guys has been meh lately. Bedard could be the next Kane. Needs to show me more playmaking.. Kane is a superstar but I would not call him generational. Crosby and McDavid are generational.

The term "Franchise player" is used in a very bizarre way in the NHL imo. Some people see Franchise players as the EA sports definition, representing players such as McDavid, Crosby, Ovi, Matthews: "La crême de la crême". Imo Franchise players are players that you can build your team around, without them having to be a top player of all time. Guys like Claude Giroux, Alexsander Barkov, Aho... The most interesting comment in the video you are referring to is that by selecting Slafkovski they were taking care of the size concern and that it was freeing them for the following picks to choose who they really want. If I remember correctly, Martin Lapointe is the one who said that they were already making the best pick (winning) with Slafkovski if only for that reason (taking care of the size).
As you are saying, that video tells a lot about the new philosophy of scouting. For me, the big change (one I was hoping for for a long time) is that they are ready to go for the risky home run instead of taking the safe bet. The Lane Hudson pick is the perfect example of this new philosophy. He may never play in the NHL but he has the potential to be a player halfway between Samuel Girard and Cale Makar if he gets bigger. And, yes, that’s a big « IF ». That new NO RISK, NO REWARD philosophy I love because you don’t build a winning team with average players.

Allowing the player some choice and freedom within the concept and getting all the line mates on the same page will certainly be a challenge but they seem excited to learn. And that's a must with young players. It'll be an interesting year depending on Dach Montreal could have four legit center's a novel thought.

One of the reasons Wright wasn't selected by the Habs was that he couldn't cope well with the pressure in his draft year, which made them ask how he could play in Montreal where there is pressure non stop. Just based on this, selecting him might not have been a good move.
Without much pressure in Seattle (or almost wherever else, esp. outside Canada) he can play much better than he would be able in Mtl.
And yes, they could have selected another winger in lower position, but that winger would probably be short again and there are many of that type in the structure already. And having a whole forward line small is not a good idea. You need a mix of size and skill. And if you can have it both in one player, you'd be a fool not to take it.

Let's take a look at their offense - they've got 13 forwards who are capable of scoring 20 goals, most of them should hit 20 in their sleep with a regular shift. And yes I am including Slaf, Drouin and Monahan among those capable, playing to their potential. Add in some 30 from the D and let's assume a couple of injuries, then add 100 goals to that total for the opposition, and you have a team that stinks and has a chance to win the lottery again. But that also means your prediction is for a 4.26 GAA for Allen and Montembault. Both should have a considerably better season this year considering everything that happened last season, putting them around 3.05 GAA. Either you're a genius or you're very bad at statistics and probability.

That’s a lot of ifs for a team. They will be more competitive, sure. But they will not be very good this year. That’s okay though because they are rebuilding. I still think they are 2-3 years away from really challenging & contending if they put all the right pieces in place
