- This vehicle was having intermittent a/c issues. Code B1479 (flow sensor circuit) was being registered in the HVAC module. In this video I go through the process of replacing the compressor to resolve the issue.
4 years and your video is still helping out. It’s the first time I’ve ever done a compressor and this made it so easy. We’ll see if I did everything right when I have the refrigerant refilled!
Hope all works well. Thanks for watching
so detailed. Sometimes I like the shorter videos but I learned so much by watching this longer one. Thanks!
You are very good. Your way of explaining is very simple. I watch all your videos
Thanks for your support
Simply the best video I cuold find.👍
This is what happens to me .
Thank you for the explanation
Thank you!
I have the same compressor & issue on my Subaru.
Very detailed. I was wondering why the flow control sensor was not simply changed instead of replacing the whole compressor
Really boils down to age and mileage on the compressor.
I’ve replaced the flow control sensor before replacing compressor and it didn’t change nothing. It’s best to change the whole compressor whenever you get that check engine code for flow control sensor
Good work 👍 you sir
I would put extra oil as suction line was dripping oil earlier in video. The drier will allow 1 oz of extra oil with slugging compresser. Always good idea to check disectant filter while system is open to determine if compressor dumped containments in drier. Then add additional oil in condenser to allow for spillage. Always use plugs on compresser so junk doesnt fall in or oil spills out.
Thank you GMan
Good work 👍 you
Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make this video. I really appreciate it, I have the same vehicle. May I ask what scan tool you use to get that code. I just have a blue driver and I get no codes.
I use an autel maxisys bt. You need to be able to read all modules not just check engine light
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. I know it must be hard to answer all the questions that come your way. Cars can be complicated beasts.
I wanted to know if new compressors had oil inside them or do we need to add in oil afterwards
Nice 👍 you sir
What the pressure should be on low and high side of this particular car in idle
Thanks for this amazing video. Can you answer this question: Which button were you referring to at 0:24? And can a regular person access/reach it? Until I replace my compressor, I want to try turning this button on so I can at least try having cold air until it's replaced. Thank you
I was referring to the ac on off button
Thank you!
Were did you order the conpresor kit from?
I'm confused on the oil. I ordered a denso compressor on autozone. It comes with oil inside it but not an extra bottle. I'm not sure if I have to check the level? It seems I could just bolt it on. In the video he drains half an ounce of oil and adds half an ounce back. Then says it contains 5 to 8 ounces. How does h3 know if it's at the right level. Reading my instructions here it says to maybe remove excess oil. So I have to drain the oil one and then compare it to the new one? Idk man
If you're not flushing the entire system of the oil then you have to equalize or compensate the system to prevent over charging it with oil. For example a system may contain 6oz of oil but you only replace the compressor. The compressor should technically contain most of the oil of the system. You remove the old compressor and drain it. Measure the amount of oil lets say 3oz come out. Then you drain the new compressor and add 3oz to it. You can add a little extra like maybe an oz but don't overdo it
General, sorry to say, but you should have pull the oil drain nut on the side of the compressor! That's whe all the oil is .
That new compressor needs more oil , and remember always pull the oil bolt on the side of the compressor, I'm a ac compressor rebuilder by profession , blessings.
Hello my friend 🙂 i got a 2013 corolla . And im going to replace the compresssor ..but i dont understand this answer from the service manual 🤔(Oil capacity inside the new compressor: 100 + 15 cc (3.38 +0.51 fl.oz.)) - (Remaining oil amount in the removed compressor) = (Oil amount to be removed from the new compressor when replacing). Can you help me 🤔
@@fp8007 to make it simple most compressors came with 3 oz oil that's ok need not do anything else but most times the condenser is restricted and should be change as well. Had 1 oz oil in the container before installing, keep simple nothing to have head ache over buddy, blessings.
How much Freon is on the hood of the car?
Many many thanks for sharing your experience in details...
Can you give the old and new compressor details like model no. Part no. And company name ???
I dont remember part number but i believe the brand was santech
@@gautorepair can you please share the link from where you purchase
I purchased from my local autozone. Check out autozone.com
hello I have 2012 corolla i charged 16 oz of freon as required Pressure on low side is only 250 to 25 psi it should be 35 ,, cold air is not cold as it should be. fan is working new condensor is installed
Im sorry what are your pressures again. You said 250 to 25psi on the low side. That doesn't seam right. Also check your high side pressure.
This is a person from Korea.
I'm sorry, but let me ask you one thing.
The 2012 Lexus RX350 air conditioner code is b1497 flow sensor circuit.
Can I change the air compressor?
Yes as long as the sensor is bad. If you have a wiring issue you can replace the compressor a million times and it will not fix the issue. The flow valve is in the compressor
@@gautorepair thanks so much
Nice guy ^^
how much does a job like this cost?
I just pulled ac compressor on a 2014 Corolla, I tip over the old compressor to drain oil out , didn't get one drip out of it. Do I add what's recommended to the new compressor or don't add anything to it? Also old compressor filed due to the sensor. Thanks
You should add the amount of oil that came out. If nothing came out maybe add 1 or 1 1/2 ounces of oil.
Also be advised that on variable displacement compressor there should be a drain plug on the compressor. Remove it to drain the oil
@@gautorepair 👍, thanks for the fast reply back. I'll do that
@@gautorepair I drain the oil out of the new compressor I got 1/2 oz out of it. I added 1.5 oz back into it.
@@gautorepair are you saying the old one has a plug to remove to be able to drain?
my 2013 corolla AC compressor is constantly on even when both power connectors are disconnected . any ideas ?!!!!
Stuck open expansion valve i think?
Did you find out what it was?
@teddy_awdB19 I just changed the compressor in the end
So I got a quote for $1100 (600 for parts and 500 for labor) to fix this issue. I was just wondering is the price accurate for a 2011 Toyota Corolla?
They also said they will change the lines etc....
If the system is contaminated by a failed compressor yes. Its a costly repair
hello I have a toyota corolla 2013 i want to know if you can help me I need to know how many pag oil the compressor need.the compressor is not new but if have a lick. I already fix the lick.I need to how much pag oil i put in the compressor ,thanks
Its difficult to know how much oil you lost when you had the leak. I would put maybe a couple ounces or so.
My 2013 Corolla is compressor was changed but still goes bad after some time what do u think is the problem and how can Iget the original Compressor with the two sensors?
I had the same issue with my customer. I had to the place the compressor twice because the sensor was defective. If your having the flow sensor code you can replace the compressor under warranty.
@@gautorepair Am in Africa talking about Warranty it does not really work here if there is any way u get the Compressor and send it to me here i will be grateful
then we can talk about the price and how to do the Payment
@@gautorepair if i replace the sensor will it work again?
I have a b1479 code
Hi, where can i buy that combo?
Autozone
Correction oil drain bolt on side of compressor!!!
Location sir
how to diagnose where the issue is ? I have the same car, my AC is not blowing cold air , but not sure if compressor is the problem
In this case i was getting a ac flow control valve code. Also the air would normally blow cold but every now and then it would get hot and stop working. If you're ac is not blowing cold air at all it could be the compressor. You will have to check refrigerant pressures.
@@gautorepairIs the case you have showing code b1479 and I have to change the compressor because my compressor is cold for a while and hot for a while and stops working except after pressing the button and restarting, and again it cools for a while and stops working? Does this problem boil down to changing the entire compressor because I changed the flow sensor and control valve? The problem still exists
Verify you have a good quality replacement part. I have heard of cheap Amazon/ Ebay parts causing issues. Also when it stops working try putting a magnet on the sensor see if it works. ua-cam.com/video/nrLEli-7wtA/v-deo.htmlsi=ojCNMidA1IORsnVy
@@gautorepairNo, it does not work even after placing a magnet unless you turn the a/c button off and on and then turn it back on. It works for about 8 minutes and also stops working every time.
Interesting. I haven't ran into that. Your going to have to do a deeper diag on this one. Are you a shop or diy
Hellow sir what the problem if display on monitor toyota corolla altis 2013 model tnx
Im sorry I don't understand your question
what happened to the reciever drier video??
Yeah sorry about that. The footage went missing somehow and i was unable to do the video. My apologies.
@G Auto Repair do u have an Instagram or Facebook where I can reach out to ya?
Spin the pulley will not do anything, unless the clutch is engaged.
Hm po magpalit ng ac compressor toyota altis 2013
hello there, my 2013 corolla is high side pressure goes up to about 400 psi and cuts out, and will kick back on at about 275 then back up again and repeat, sometimes it will be fine and my low side pressure is at 35 and high about 250-275, but when high side elevates and kicks out pressures do not recover to where they should be and im without a/c working proper. is this a restriction at orfice or block in condenser/accumulator? ive also read about a electronic compressor solenoid valve,? not sure where that is located . any advice or tips would be appreciated, thank you Rod
Sounds like a restriction but its weird that sometimes it is ok. You may have moisture in the system. Replace the receiver/ drier and make sure you pull a good vacuum on the system. Recharge the ac and see what happens
@@gautorepair hi there, sorry for delay in getting back to you, thanks for the advice, i was also thinking restriction like orfice screen or receiver dryer, i had a tacoma that had a blockage and the receiver dryer is in the side of condenser. im diving in tomorrow or next day, my research is pointing to a solenoid that is in the compressor, i bought one online and hoping this is problem. ive done refrigeration work of every type over the last 20 years and it is getting so difficult these days to diagnose issues. wiring is just a nightmare. i let you know how it turns out ! thanks Rod
To replace the flow control valve is pretty straightforward. Replace the receiver drier. Sometimes if there is moisture in the system it could freeze and cause a temporary blockage until it melts. Keep me posted. Thanks
Is this Denso compressor that you bought new
On the Lexus I’m working on same symptoms same code, changed compressor twice.... same issue persists...
On this particular situation I had to change it twice. The replacement compressor was defective.
Suggest always to use factory OEM replacement. Often much reliable results
Jonathan Ratliff a denso compressor did the trick
I have the same car with the same problem. I already changed the compressor twice with orginal OEM, it last for a year more or less before It broke again.. Any suggestions or recommendations please?
If you have internal compressor failure your ac system is more than likely contaminated with debris from the old compressor. You need to replace the compressor, condenser, expansion valve and flush the system. Please view my other video on flushing ac system.
😮😮😮😮😮
Why didn’t you just change the flow sensor if that was the problem. Why change the whole compressor
That is a very good question. In my case this was a new compressor that was defective so the compressor was replaced under warranty. But lets say it was not warranty. Then you would have to take into account the age and mileage of the old compressor. If its very old, how much more before it takes a crap? The flow sensor is not readily available in most cases and the compressor might be on its last leg anyways by the time this sensor fails.
Stick a small neodymium magnet to the snap ring holding the flow sensor in. If the compressor clutch still doesn’t engage try flipping the magnet over to change the polarity. I had the same code in my 2011 Sienna. Put magnet on and works good! Try it next time. You can also buy aftermarket flow sensors on eBay and Amazon. Magnet takes 30sec though. The flow sensor gets corrosion underneath and/or the sensor goes bad. Compressor is still good usually.
The problem is not the flow sensor. The issue is the solenoid control valve, I had the same issue and changing the flow sensor wont solve it. After replacing the solenoid control valve it worked like a charm.
@@gautorepair good point. I wanted to just replace the sensor but most likely just replace the whole compressor.
