Garage noise great video I have restored my wife's car but I buffed it with some 3m compound and then polish but just waiting to see how it holds out I think later on I might spray some clear What do you think about the 2 different ways?
I've sanded and polished lights before as well as just a quick clean up. They will look good for 6 months to a year then start to fade again nothing wrong with that. This just last much longer and looks better with fresh clear. Thank's for the response, I appreciate the support brother!
Go buy mothers aluminum wheel polish rub it on lines get a drill and buffing wheel buff it out 5 minutes total done you might need to repeat it depending on your lines. Cost 5 dollars
You started without taping first? Then after raising the hood did a full taping job of the headlight even though the hood was raised??? There was no need to tape the top edge of the headlight!! Another thing as the air orbital sander have variable speed? And never use 2k which is far to hard and a nightmare to remove for future restoration as any clear coat is not permanent!! I strongly recommend grit sizes as follows p500 p800 and then a trizact p3000 with tap water that's all you need, Buff with headlight polish + a decent clearcoat job done!!
Hey Keith appreciate the comment. There are a few different ways to restore headlights. I've done the wet sand and buff method and it works well but doesn't last like clearcoat. Alot of these headlights are clearcoated from the factory and last quiet a long time. Should last years. If it does fail eventually you can just sand it down and do it again. I just like the results better with clearcoat. Appreciate the comment!
@@GarageNoiseI agree there are many different ways to restore headlights. Some methods and products are better than others. 1. Sand 2. Polish 3. Coating What products and methods used will determine the final product. As it was previously stated, using 2k clear coat on headlights is not the better way. You give up too many pros for lasting cons. Using a product not designed for headlights leaves the customer and the next restore process with an expensive task. 2k clear is not designed for photo transparency, but for appearance, longevity, and resistance to removal. While those may seem good on paper, in reality, the headlight loses performance, headlight lifespan, and maintenance complications. Good for paintwork doesn't translate well for headlight coating.
So when you clear coat it you don't need to polish? I've only ever done the wet sanding with 1000 grit then polishing it. This seems like it takes longer but wayyyyyyy more effective than polishing
How much do you charge for restoring headlights? I got a lot of clear left over and i know a couple of people with faded headlights. I want to make quick cash.
I don't really charge most of the time I do it as a courtesy for customers. I think it should be worth 50-100 dollars for a set . You can do a set in less than 30 min.

Thanks for watching!
Good vidio . im a paint and body guy, after i wet sand lights up to 3000 grit, I simply buff it out with different grit compound and does a great job.
That works well too! Appreciate the comment and support!

@@GarageNoise As always you come thru. Thanks man.
You should place it before the transparent adhesive promoter for plastic
Never had one peel but it couldn't hurt . Thank's for watching!
I think I am going to do this for the taillights on by foxbody coupe. Fresh'in up those 30 year old taillights.
Makes a big difference.
Don't try this on tail lights as the plastic is different to front polycarbonate lenses taillights are to brittle and could crack!!
Can you put this on new headlights to protect them ?
They have clear on them from the factory. So I would wax or possibly use ceramic coating on new lights. Do research on that tho.
Nice, so whats a good price to charge for this type of work?
If I was just diong this $100
@@GarageNoise thanks

@@danladimoore9641 In my experience clearcoat is the best way. Best results as far as appearance and durability. You decide for yourself.👍

Really doesn't take much longer , it might be quicker even. No polishing after you clear it.
@@GarageNoise okay cool so would 1000 grit wet still be suitable? I'm just worried if I go lower I'll take it too far
Headlight polishing is part of the process as it hydrates the polycarbonate (seals) which is porous!! Then clearcoat!!

No level sand and polish?
Nope no need
What does Headlight restoration go for?
Fifty to seventy five dollars a head light
