I have my Omni 5'9 .... its really a nice board..losts of fun...but I fell it doesnt hold much, 6 feet tops.... and I had a great time in 3 feet mushy waves.... love the feeling of the LFT.. great combo...flex similiar to a PU and so light and responsive !!!
Love the review! I was thinking about the evo as my small wave board for my quiver. Love the idea of it even more as a travel board with its durability. Have heard some feedback tho that because of the nose shape and how light it is it gets caught/pushed around by winds that might make it a bit iffy in places prone to wind (more so than a PU board). Thoughts on that? Have you experienced that?
Hi Thank you for the awesome reviews. I had an evo FST 5'3 for 2 years and loved it until it clean snapped under the lip of a Oaxaca barrell. Living in Texas I travel to surf so I need a versatile board that works in waves ranging from windswells in the Gulf Coast, to California and perfect barrels back home in Mexico. Now I am shopping for a new board, not sure whether to go for the SKX or another EVO.. I really like that it's available in the Timbertek construction too. Thoughts on FST vs Timbertek?
I'm 46yo 84kg (180lb) surfing 30 years, now just once a week in New Zealand, 4/3mm wet tie year round. I got the 5'6" EVO, couldn't paddle it AT ALL but when I did get a wave I freckin loved it, due to getting almost NO waves, I swapped it for a 5'11" EVO, this thing ( mates call it a 'fridge door') is fantastic catching any wave I want wave count through the roof, Waist - 2x overhead Thruster setup with Large MF1 fins, soo much fun, probably could have gone 5'10" , I'm getting the 6'0 Omni as the drop of a couple of litres should make it a lot easier to get it on rail etc. Me on the 5'11" evo , nothing spectacular just average Joe with a massive smile..... ua-cam.com/video/uZWTWTE1IQY/v-deo.html
Hey thanks for the video! Am 200 lbs 5'11'' low intermediate level surfing chest to head high waves mostly in CA. Have a 6'0'' Tomo Evo (44.2L) and absolutely love it. On my backside, sometime the board will slip while doing the bottom turn and I will fall back into the water....Thruster setup Large fins. Could this be too much volume board, should I downsize to a 5'11 or 5'10 would it feel much different? Or is it just my bad technique...Up to what size waves should this board hold up for me? What about quad setup? Thanks!
Riley - that's pretty much what I was going for in this video. After thinking it through, I decided that some previous videos I've made went waayyyy to deeply into the details, and with videos like this I'm trying to hit the most important, relevant stuff that most surfers notice while leaving out some of the more granular stuff that has less of an impact on how the board actually works.... What would you have added to this video? Thanks for pitching in!
I think the lenght it's ok for the porpouse of this video... But it would be nice some insight about the thruster vs quad settings on any of this boards! Cause bottom contours can't be perfect for both set ups at the same time. I can understand that from a business standpoint offering 5 fins boxes make sense, and that most surfers won't notice the difference. But aren't this the exact same models that Kelly and friends use to compete? Those guys must feel the difference and I know I would prefer Daniel shape me a quad version only and a thruster version only. What's your (and their's) take on this? Thx for the time you put in! Cheers!
Shred Show Hi Shred Show i understand were you coming from with this video making it short and sweet and only having the key information about the boards. I found the tail design with relation to size of waves very interesting and helpful. What i think you could've added was the more "general" features of both boards and how those features will make the board feel for example 3 vs 4 fin set ups etc. love the videos keep them coming
Hi Dr Chris, Your Evo is sized as a groveller, it has the same volume in comparison to the Omni. Dr Thompson has mentioned that the Evo should be sized under your 'HP Shortboard' volume, if it is to be used as a HP shortboard alternative. With an Evo sized the same as your HP shortboard or Omni, how much does it effect the high and low end wave range of the Evo? I currently have an Omni, and I am looking to get an Evo, for the purpose of grovelling, so I'm keen to know its benefits & limitations when sizing with additional foam Cheers, Drumbull
I ride a 5'5 evo and a 5'7 omni (probably a bit bigger than I need but I surf the UK so I want a bit more foam), and I used to own a 5'7 evo too and, let me tell you, that thing grovelled as well as any purpose-shaped groveller I've used. I'd say go 2 to 4 inches longer than your "hp shortboard" evo to get a size that will grovel well.
Love my Omni ,...6'2 @ first, thought it was going to be too big. But Surfing in the Winter in NJ, where 98.9% of the time it's TOP2BOTTOM, whether 2ft or 6 ft+.The Omni dose not disappoint whatsoever.👍🤡👍
Hey there! Great videos! Any recommendations for a quad fin set in the futures? I m 77kilos and just got a new tomo evo in 5"10. I m a average surfer on a short board and I feel like I need more control in the bottom turn.Cheers
Hi, how's your Evo going? I'm similar weight and average surfer trying to figure what size Evo to go for. Local shop suggest 5'8 but I'm nervous about getting a board that short. He says it will be too fast if you oversize it. Not sure
@@davidhowardkiwisurfer3997 hey man! Well i had to sell it cause it was to short for me. BUT! I might not be good enough on a surfboard to start with.. that s a possibility 🤣
Nice quik comparison you put up!! Looks simple but for those who followed you through shredshow there're little gems hidden! Thanks for keeping the good works and fresh style! BTW: What did Michel Bourez ride just now at pipe?? Cheers!! Keep'em coming...
The OMNI and the EVO are for completely different types of waves, so is there a reason you're recommending the same volume for both boards? I'm going 4-5 litres difference. The EVO for small-to-average waves, the OMNI for average-to-good waves. I guess each to their own. happy days.
The boards ride great, real shame that there so let down by the build quality workmanship, very poor! Not eco friendly at all!!! Think the sander has mistakenly picked up a grinder! Sent so many back to the shop! So much cloth showing thru! Very poor qual mr slater!

Great Video! Really loving the style and the way you compare these different but alike surfboards!
Awesomeness!! My favorite part of the video - "if it feels good do it!" Absolutes from the teachings of the great "Chris of Shred Show"!! 👌🏼🏄🏽💙💥💣
Just watched the other video for the FST, LFT, TTk and said you need to keep the wacky, looks like you are. Good to see! Keep up the good work!

Looks like some fun waves out there! Definitely worth wearing a 4/3 for it appears. Thanks for sharing this clip. Looks like you're having a blast.

Can you please do a full review in both the evo and omni and maybe a comparison between the two boards?

Never 2 same days so...different boards. In fact...I already have an Omni and Im considering an EVO Helium too
What's Kelly riding in Hawaii? Just saw a freesurfing video (December 2016) of him riding a swallowtail with a somewhat wider nose.

Martin - Michel was riding a design called "The Bastard" designed by Jon Pyzel that was built in LFT.

why wouldn't you have the same volume? It's the the shape that makes it work in different conditions, not the float...
My eyes lit up when I saw the black back ground
why is this episode so short
the fck happened to the shred show?
he teamed up with Firewire, I think hes posting all the board related stuff on here now.
Well, I'm still alive, if that's what you mean? :)
Down the road there will be new stuff on Shred Show's channel, but Firewire-related projects are what have me captivated for the moment.
can you post more stuff on shred show please
…and how do these compare to a Gamma?
How do you find your volume for a board?
it depends in your level of surfing your weight and height ! there are a lot of volume calculator online!
So you can ride EPS boards on big days?
Yes, you can.
Nice job. The Omni it is then.
