Attack on Titan is set in a world where humanity lives inside cities surrounded by enormous walls due to the Titans, gigantic humanoid beings who devour humans. The story follows the adventures of Eren Jaeger and his childhood friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert, whose lives are changed forever after a Colossal Titan breaches the wall of their hometown. Guys don't forget to watch the OVA's before starting season 2.
I agree with the previous comment, the OVAs are often forgotten by reactors, so please watch them.
Also I don't remember if you guys have been told this, but when the episode ends with "to be continued" it just finishes as normal with the outro but if there's no "to be continued", make sure to watch until the end.
Yeah OVAs are really good and they give a bunch of insight for some characters, as you have already finished season 1 you can watch the first 5 episodes from crunchyroll's S66 section right away
@richakaithwas5724 some of the ovas are spoilers. They shouldn't watch all of them yet. (One of them spoils something that gets revealed in a later season. Something involving 2 characters)
Not always, but usually when you see more still paintings in an episode than usual, it's because they're conserving their animation budget for a big scene soon. 😁

This show really demonstrates the value of inspiring leaders throughout the whole run.

Some shots are still frames because animation takes time and costs money and they decided to spend that time making other shots really good. So still frames in an episode usually means cool action scenes later in the episode.
14:16 I don't know who told you guys there are filler episodes. 80% of the episodes are like non-stop (exhaustingly so). The remaining are the build-up/ cooldown ep before/after those non stop ones.
The thing you should know is the fact that this is a hand drawn animated show. So a few things like the colour differences, size differences etc. are simple "creative liberties". Don't pay much heed to it.
There are no filler episodes in attack on titan, even the ova s are plot of the story.

They are stories, one shots, that doesn't fit in the main story cuz it will ruin the pace and the momentum but that does not mean they are filler. Filler by definition are extra episodes that only serve to increase the runtime of the show. Aot has none of that. Would you say levi's ova no regrets is a filler? How would you even know its a filler?

The glowing green eyes versus the regular eyes when he's a titan is just a visual effect! There isn't any reason behind why sometimes they do normal or green besides it looking cool 😂

Fun fact without spoilers : Eren's physique when he transforms into his Titan form is loosely based on that of Yūshin Okami, a Japanese martial artist. Hajime Isayama Sensei ( the creator of the source material for Aot ) said that Okami had the "ideal physique of a middleweight mixed martial artist."
I'm sure you know this but for anyone else the "Armored Titan" was modelled after Brok Lesnar

I love how Armin uses the dream he and Eren have to explore the outside world(with a minor dose of pain) to wake up Eren. Sure, Eren could just sit back and live a comfortable life with the people he loves. But Armin told him that there was more to life than just what was inside the walls. Eren was born into this world. So shouldn't he be free to see those sights as well? In order to persue his dream with Armin, Eren finally stands up with new determination.
This is really important because they are given as the real motivation of Eren, that will give helps us to understand his actions further
I've felt that when people say there are filler episodes, I feel they don't appreciate the setup needed for big payoffs. They're establishing a lot of mood of the redshirts. This anime is not about over the top heroes doing over the top heroic things that you would expect. The emotions and reactions are that of how more real people would react and that has to be part of the world building to establish and ground what you're seeing in the big action, this includes the motivations of the regular joe blow soldier or citizen. Something to remember about what we've just seen is that from episode 5 to now, it's been like less than a day in their world time.

23:22 I feel like you guys misunderstood the earlier scene when they're on their way to HQ to refill their gas, and Jean is seen as a coward. While that may have played some small part in it, the bigger issue at play in that situation was that none of them had the gas for that fight. They ran out of it is as soon as they made it to where they needed to refill. Had Jean ordered to go in, they would have either died there or on the way to HQ due to running out of gas. He made the right, smart decision that kept as many people alive as he could given the bad hand he was dealt. Go a lil easy on his horse face ;) all that to say though I love y'alls content and keep up the great reactions to AoT and beyond!
Jean is a coward but not because of that scene. He is a coward at the very beginning because of his intention to avoid any conflict by joining the security forces of the inner wall. He is also the most realistic character because most humans are cowards in this way. None of us want to die but after decades of heroic bravery to the point of having no sense of self-preservation being normalised for fictional characters, we've come to expect that every person in a story must have that same level of bravery which is unrealistic.
If anyone was at a zoo and their friend was attacked by a lion, 100% of people would either freeze or run. No one would throw themselves at the lion to try save their friend. It just wouldn't makes sense. And yet because of the "every character is a hero" trope we've become used to, we somehow expect every character in fiction to be willing to throw themselves at a lion or they are considered a coward.

Exactly. And I love how this part of him is always there, even when he's given the option to join the Yeagerists and he imagines a peaceful life with Mikasa. And yet, he chooses to join the Alliance, not because he wants to, but because he knows it's his duty.
He's one of the best characters.

Respectfully, I completely disagree with whoever said that there are filler episodes. Slower paced episodes are not the same as filler. The pacing of the show is very diverse, sometimes you’ll spend one day throughout the course of 7 episodes, sometimes you’ll go through months in just one episode. Everything they chose to put into an episode is important to the story and/or for the development of the character’s story arcs. Every scene and conversation, no matter how redundant or insignificant it might seem in the moment, is important.
And also, Jean was not being a coward before, you guys need to start paying attention to the information they give you and analyze character’s actions and motivations better or else you’ll get lost in the story really soon. Jean stood and watched one of his friends die to the titan bc he knew they didn’t have enough gas to rescue him. Then a careless soldier decided to do it anyways and was captured and eaten himself. 2 soldiers died instead of one bc of his “courage” (foolishness). Jean assessed the situation correctly, he did the right thing by not leading himself and more soldiers into pointless death. And he even blamed himself for the foolish guy who got himself killed bc he didn’t listen when Jean said he shouldn’t try to save the other one.
Mikasa on the other hand was able to kill 2-3 titans bc she is insanely skilled but she did it at the expanse of all her gas. She was foolish too and was not assessing her situation right, she knew she had barely any gas, and like armin said in that exact scene, it doesn’t matter how skilled you are, without gas/ maneuver gear, you’re as good as dead. And that’s what she would’ve been if eren wasn’t in titan form saving her in that moment she fell bc she ran out of gas. She also would’ve been left behind if armin hadn’t given her HIS last tank of gas to reach HQ.
And again, the reason they were all running out of gas is bc HQ refused to protect the refill station from the titans (which was their job) to make sure the soldiers who were out there in battle didn’t run out, which is why Jean gets so angry with them when he barely makes it there with who was left of his team.

Jean is the most likely misunderstood character ever, but somehow that's what make him a good character, as real as he is.

I wouldn't say this show has any 'fillers' but there are 'set up' episodes that might *seem* less important in the grand scheme of things. Most of it is still relevant in some way or another, even if it isn't that apparent right away. 💙
This is what I was thinking, nothing go to waste in this show, like characters we see as unimportant have a lot a meaning forward

@@CasualCat64 It's the opposition of an exposition dump because most things aren't said directly or outright. They are present more in a puzzle piece fashion where their importance to the greater picture only becomes apparent seasons later. An exposition dump is a very specific thing and these episodes don't qualify in any way.
Also exposition dumps are not necessarily bad when used properly. Some of our most epic and lauded films start with exposition dumps or contain them - Lord of the Rings, The original Star Wars, the new Dune movies (and the original ones) are a few examples of movies that contain exposition dumps that are done properly.

My personal theory as to why Eren attacks Mikasa is that he's been feeling upset and feelings of slight resentment at her acting so overprotective of him all this time. With this newfound Titan power these emotions became amplified and mixed with primal rage and he simply lost control seeing the source of those amplified feelings in front of him.
Nice theory, close to my thoughts on it as well. Some tiptoe around Eren's negative emotions cause they like the Eremika ship.

It's so weird how that's the new narrative. Season 2 is what made most people quit attack on titan originally and think it was just a gimmick show with amazing animation. I personally go even further than most to say the first stretch of season 1 is the best of the entire series.

24:43 "Because I was born into this world!" hit me so hard when I first watched AoT. In the downtime between seasons I would always go back to this clip and others. It's so visually stimulating when Armin is going through what they saw in the forbidden book from parents and what they dreamed of seeing to then Eren waking up and snapping out of the trance.

Eren has this massive chip on his shoulder about Mikasa protecting him and he was pretty pissed at her just before turning into a titan, so I think that might've affected him after the transformation. Basically his anger got redirected from titans to her. But yeah, that episode could have neen 10 minutes without loosing anything.

it's already explained by pieck in s4 that the first transformation doesn't go well. just like how falco transformed into a titan and attacked pieck and the people near him. with eren, his first real conscious transformation is just in here. so it didn't go well as well and attacked mikasa which is near him
y’all are probably the only reactors i’d watch every episode reaction to for AOT😂
This is just my own theory, but I assume the reason why the first time we see Eren as a titan attacking other titans vs this time when he attacks Mikasa has to do with a couple of things.
For one, he was really emotionally geared towards eliminating the titans in the first instance, so that probably became his main instinct when he first emerged.
For two, while in the first instance his emotions ran high with his desire to kill other titans, in this instance he got a little bit heated with Mikasa moments before. Granted, it wasn't a big disagreement, it was probably enough of an emotion to have his thoughts linger on her.
And lastly, it could just be as simple as who/what is around that he is able to attack. In the first instance there where plenty of titans nearby for Eren to attack, which distracted him from attacking humans. In this instance, the humans baited most of the titans away, leaving only humans within Eren's area.
His truth mixed within the lies is "I've always hated you."

This is my absolute favorite anime, so much emotions in every single episode. I’m 30 years old and I still can’t finish this show without shedding some tears.. enjoy the ride!!!

It's so funny watching you guys because I feel like I'm watching 4 copies of my dad watch this show lol. Every time someone brings up the term "red shirt" I'm reminded that my dad is literally the only person I know who is a Trekkie. Also that line Mason Quinn dropped about "Plan B: make Plan A work" sounds to me like a line I would hear in an action movie and my dad would then go around repeating that to everyone he knew for the next week and belly-laughing each time. Guess I gotta get him to watch this show in that case.

Fun Fact: In the episode 11, after Eren finishes his initial conversation with Pyxis, he appears to have been given a new boot and shirt as his outfit shows no sign of damage, but his sleeve is shown as ripped again once the operation begins 🤔🤔🤔

@zd_zma It's so interesting that you mention that because although I catch mistakes in live action all the time (my mother and I love counting mistakes) I've never actually noticed in animation. Now I have to go back and re-watch all my favorite animated shows to see if I can find them!

The slaughter at the start of the fight is because the majority of them were new recruits and other inexperienced people. The ones helping in the fight now are more experienced. Also never get to lax around the titans cause even vets go down with one wrong move. Gotta remember it's a war anime and people can die in an instant from being in the wrong spot at wrong time.

OMFG Erin derped during his transformation and fell into a building that’s what happened cause he changed mid air and kept falling 😂 I never realized him hitting that building was a total accident he literally falls into it

I’m so happy you cut these reactions into multiple episodes. The cliff hangers are a bit much for a reaction channel as well, so it’s nice to see some of the pacing sped up by getting at least two episodes. Because in classic anime fashion, it did not feel like much happened in that first episode for this video.😂 we see the futility of their current plan, and then we see it executed… I hope. I forget how the second episode goes.
