A new Firmware update just came out for the A7R IV!! It is version 1.20 posted on August 5th, 2020 www.sony.com/electronics/support/e-mount-body-ilce-7-series/ilce-7rm4/downloads
Hi, I have problems with my alpha 7R4 camera, I have the latest software, I think reinstalling it would fix the problems, but it won't let me reinstall it, do you know any way to do it? Regards Rodrigo
Well it depends what version firmware your camera has now? Here is the latest firmware for your camera: www.sony.com/electronics/support/e-mount-body-ilce-7-series/ilce-7m3/downloads
When I downloaded the firmware update, it only shows up as a letter file. I can't open it. ANY idea how to fix this? I've been researching this for an hour and I have nothing.
May 2022. This video is like watching a fishing show, they always catch fish and it always goes perfect, mine did NOTHING like this during my attempt at the procedure, it said no at every turn, can't do it, can't get around it, can't update to card like ANY device i've ever used. sucks! I'm still not updated. not even kidding..:/
There is a new version of this camera. It is called ILCE-7RM4A. You can easily tell if your recently purchased camera is the "A" version by looking at the rear screen. The word SONY at the bottom should no longer be there, Due to the pandemic Sony had to source a different rear screen assembly and this required a hardware revision. The firmware demonstrated here should NOT be used for this hardware model. Here is the new support page. www.sony.com/electronics/support/e-mount-body-ilce-7-series/ilce-7rm4a/downloads
@@tedcaster3366 Wow ! Thank you ! This all got me super confused. But I sill have a question : where to I verify that mine is a 4A ? It probably is, I just bought it. I found it strange that it did not seem up to date... Many thanks in advance
I have an aR7iv with 1.0 and my MacBook Pro after 1 zillion attempts following instructions can not find the camera, and so the UpdateSettingTool can not move past the (failed) attempt to "verify the connection of the camera..." I am so frustrated. I have rebooted whenever asked (1 zillion times) and followed instructions on 1.2 page and it simply does not work. Are there alternate methods?
@@Jason_Hermann Thanks for the reply. I literally tried 8 cables into both ports and some of them are definitely for data (including one that said SONY on it, which I think is the one it came with?). But just to be sure, I ordered a cable that specifically says it will work with this camera. If that fails, I will try to take it to a service center or something?
I keep getting the following message, "software updater could not find the camera". I have tried removing the camera, the battery, restarting my computer, yet the result is the same, computer updater does not detect the camera. My computer however, does recognize the camera as a storage device. And yes, I do have the setting under for USB connection set to Mass Storage. No matter what I do, the damn updater just doesn't work. Camera model ilce-7rm4S
As far as I can tell, yes. Although while trying to track running dogs with the A7R IV and FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens, I was not getting the best hit rate. I definitely got some good captures, but not every single shot was not in focus as I hoped. That is a lot to ask I know, but the A9 II can do that in comparison.
Hello. I do not review the video cameras, because I only have so much time in the day. I can't even keep up with all the regular cameras and lenses Sony keeps putting out. As far as the RX10 IV, no I only used it for the month I had when reviewing.
A small piece of advies, your battery must be charged otherwise it will give you an error saying you must charge before continuing. Thanks for the video
HI; You need to let the listeners know that the update for the a7Riv and the a7rivA are not the same. The later is only up to vr 1.10 and not 1.2 which is only for the a7rIV
Yeah this particular firmware update came out 12-17-2019, but I just got the A7R IV for review and needed to update the firmware so I figured I would make a quick tutorial for those nervous about updating or whatever. It's pretty straight forward...

Two years later and sweet FA. Sony really need to improve their updates. Compared to Canon, Nikon and Fuji, Sony are appalling. Considering my initial outlay for the A7R4, there should be more firmware developments.
I'm not sure what you mean? This video is a very basic walkthrough on how to update your Sony camera firmware. If a new firmware comes out for your camera, you can update it. If there is no new firmware update for your camera, then you will not need to update it.

Thanks for the video! I purchased a used A7R IV body with the original version 1.00 and was easily able to update to 1.20. Thanks so much.
Super useful info! I've been trying for a week and turns out it was the security settings. Not sure I ever would've figured that out. Subscribed!
You're very welcome and that security setting gets me everytime ;) Jay
Getting my RIV next Thursday, hopefully the latest firmware will be installed if not I'm glad to have this video to refer too in need be. Thanks
Congrats on the new camera Andre, and thanks for the comments!
Thanks for developing and posting this tutorial. My update was successful. Much appreciated!
By the way, I just noticed there is a new update posted for the A7r4. It is version 1.20 posted on August 5th, 2020. Thanks for the video!

Anyone know how to update the firmware on the A7 IV on Mac? Been trying to figure it out and it refuses to work 🥲
super and nice...may i asking you, can buy used lanes sony FE24-70/F2.8 ? They are selling like a 1700$...Thanks
That is a great lens! That sounds like a lot of money in US dollars, not sure what that works out to for you though...
A very useful run through a simple but can be frustrating getting connected at the right time and unlocking taking 25 mins👍
Glad it helped and thanks for the comments ;)

Thanks if you ever reply.

I’m running into this EXACT SAME issue.
Sorry to hear you are having issues! Have you tried a different USB cable? The cable must support data as well as charging.

Bonjour, j'ai le même souci ! ça me rend fou ... Avez vous réussi svp? Merci par avance
I was getting that on my Mac but when i switched to me windows computer it worked fine
Mine just will not do it, is there a driver that I need to install first? It just will not go through
I did not install any driver, but I did need to allow permissions in the security area. Did you do that?
where do you get the usb cable ,i just have the charging one, sorry newbie here
Hey Gerry, what kind of USB port does your computer have? It should look like a rectangle or an oval shape?
Hello Jay , does Animal Eye Focus work with tracking on AFC Mode on the A7RIV??

I hope the sony updates becomes like new nikon updates it's done by mobile phone wirelessly without any computer or wires stuff
That would be really cool!
Thanks!
You bet!
Got my A7Riv yesterday and I’m unable to update my camera, constantly tells me it cannot detect camera but it says connected, any work around here?
Make sure you have the camera USB setting to mass storage and your USB cable supports data!
My a7riv connects to the computer but the firmware updater doesn’t recognize it for anything.
