- This is my interpretation of what a butterfly cage is. I think it will work well for lightning bugs too. Either way I made this bug cage lol for my daughter she is seven years old. Hope everything is explained well enough for you folks! Thanks for watching. Any question just ask! I did not make any plans for this butterfly cage. Just this video.

Excellent work! I made a quick and dirty version of this last year because we get back swallowtail caterpillars on our parsley and we collected them and watch the whole transformation from pupa to chyrsallis to butterfly😁 so that's another great use for this...👍👍👍

Great project. My Son's class had butterfly larvae in a mini screen cage in the classroom. The class was pretty excited to release the butterflies at the end of the school year.

It turned out beautiful! And thank you for the little comment at the end about the sides not being perfectly equal. Now I have hope that I'll be able to give it a try (because my builds never come out perfect).

The cage should be for raising eggs to caterpillar to pupae, not keeping the butterfly inside...see how it’s frantically flying? To get butterfly eggs plant dill and parsley in your yard. I have a tiny porch in the city and have 4 eggs and a caterpillar on my one parsley plant!
i like the diff joinery techniques used . wonder if only the male butterfly are colorful? the trim made it look a lot nicer , it's always rewarding making your own trim. my fav is a roman ogee bit i use that alot .thanks for sharing , i bet she's real happy with it i know i would be . im making my kid a chalk board easel opposite side will have a roll of paper i can pull down and it will be for drawing . gonna use tongue and groove router bit set for it .

That would be a great enclosure to have Monarch caterpillars in,, and you daughter could watch them eat milkweed leaves and later turn into butterfly

Great build Mitch maybe if your daughter gets fed up with catching and releasing the butterflies, you could use it as a bird cage for say budgies or something the same size.

Lovely job, but I'd be concerned about the possibility of chemicals from the finish, glue and silicon compound proving toxic to caterpillars and emerging adult butterflies.

Butterflies love milk weed, plant that in yard they'll come back every year to bread .

Monarchs eat milkweed, Eastern Black Swallowtail eat dill, parsley, rue, and fennel. Either way it’s wonderful.
