    Thanks for making this video! WE adopted a butterfly on our walk today. She loves our attention and to crawl all over us. Doesn't want to fly away. So we figure we'll keep her, although her breed seems to only have a short lifespan of 6-14 days. So this is perfect for us!! Thanks so much!! :) Blessings!

    Or you can buy a fold out travel laundry hamper, if you have one with a slit like me, either toss a towel over the top or cut the top to add a mesh lid, very easy.

    “I’m sure there are plenty of Asian people with Southern accents.”
    Me: Yes! Howdy! I’m one of them!
    Sending you much love from Texas. Thank you for this video! I had bought a Passion Flora plant a few weeks ago. Now I’ve got 8 caterpillars & one that’s gone into its cocoon! Hoping to make something to keep them all safe and healthy!

    its functional but not pretty. According to a study that was done, you are not supposed to order larva from non local sources, they may not migrate and die. Also, its ok to raise monarchs indoors during the summer months, however, the last week of July and thereafter, they should be raised outdoors. If they are raised indoors at that time, they might not migrate. Other butterfly species native to your area should be just fine raised in this habitat.

      Hey I need some help I found a butter fly with a torn wing in my house and it’s currently midnight, I put him a sponge with a sugar solution and don’t really know what to do now it’s alive but not moving very much unless, is there any chance you could help me, I just want to make him better to release him but it’s winter in Ireland and very icy so I’m not sure if its even okay to release him if he does get better ?

      Thank you very much for your information. I currently have 8 caterpillars and looks like they will turn into chrysalis in the next few days. These are another batch I have, I had some batch of 12 few weeks ago... my plan was let them grow outdoor in my yard... what better than raise them in the nature. Unfortunately, one day I lost 6, then down to 4, and I was about the take the last one inside ( they were all big caterpillars )within 5-10 minutes, it was gone too. I still don’t know what took them, we have trees so lots of birds but also this year we have a Paper Wasps nest right near the milkweeds. I was sad. So when one morning I woke up, my husband found this batch of tiny caterpillars, he brought them all in... an here we go, almost been a week. Today is 9/2, I just ordered a butterfly habitat and should be here tomorrow. Then I think I’m going to move them outside like you said.

    Are you saying tool? The thing you wrapped around it. Where do you get them at? Can you use something more diy to wrap around it?

      I was wondering as well. Looks like it is tulle netting used in gardens.

    Do you have to start with caterpillars or do butterflies land in habitat and lay the pupa etc? Can't figure out if there should be an opening left open for butyerflies

      Butterfly's lay eggs then eggs turn into caterpillars.

    How do you attach the chrysalis to the netting?

    • @sydneyjuniper5356
      @sydneyjuniper5356 5 років тому +1

      jemshera it’s dangerous to remove them from where they already are, they attach themselves

    • @abidalusy6341
      @abidalusy6341 4 роки тому

      Actually you either tape them or clip them

    • @clarissagutierrez9405
      @clarissagutierrez9405 3 роки тому +1

      They do it themselves, you never want to mess with the chrysalis because you can risk damaging their wings or body

      I use dental floss. I very carefully tie one end of an approx. 6" length of floss to the tiny black "thread" at the top of the chrysalis, and then tie the other end to a stick.
      Then I put the stick in my butterfly cage. Easy peasy !
