And in their way, they came to love one another, became such close friends. And, if you watch other Montserrat performances, you never see her happy, like she is with Freddie. She truly loved doing these duets with him.

Really, what’s not to love. So lucky these performances were recorded for everyone to discover. You’re right, what a musical legacy.

Freddie always loved the opera and knowing that his time was limited, he decided to take a break from Queen to pursue other things. He never had any intention to leave Queen, but as with any band, you are working with other people and you create a character within that group. You are right, Montserrat did encourage Freddie to go a little deeper into the style of Opera in that she encouraged him to use his chest voice more and taught him a lot of things about breathing and expression. You are also right that Freddie could use his voice in almost any way, he was a true singer and an incredible musician. Thank you for this reaction.

👏👏👏 I love your reactions, you definitely grabbed Freddie's essence.
In terms of 2 songs Freddie and Mike (the co-composer) asked Sir Tim Rice (a very famous lyricist) to write the lyrics and these were the Golden Boy and the Fallen Priest. Don't miss it out! Or you can try the demo version called Rahcmaninov's revenge (later version) in which Freddie was singing Montserrat's parts as well. I mean, he was singing both parts. Amazing surprise!
Freddie said it once: "I was bringing her into my rock’n’roll world and so she was shaking like a leaf, and saying, “Will they accept me?” She asked me how we should do it and I said, “Oh, we should just stand there and deliver the song,” which is how operatic recitals are done. I had to sort of restrain myself too. I had to keep in mind that I couldn’t do all my usual balletic stuff; none of those prancy poses, and all that. No, I had to just deliver it - in a fucking tuxedo - which I’d never done in front of an audience before - and just go for it! "

    Hi Philip...
Only Freddie could pull off a song that goes from Rock/Opera to Gospel in one fell swoop... and do it so amazingly...
Thanks again for another great reaction to yet another wonderful masterpiece... Freddie was a Virgo, he could do ANYTHING he put his mind to, whether music or ballet or scrabble... blessings

Montserrat Caballe' was noted for her spectacular voice and acting ability. Spend a moment or two watching 'Montsy' perform in an Opera- the lady is truly a Diva. (She told Freddie her friends call her 'Montsy' . So now, we do also..lol.) Freddie involved her in gospel, which thrilled her it seemed to me. Yes, those two opened performance doors that stayed open! Pavarotti was Mr. Negativity when they first came out. Now click to find him collaborating with a variety of pop and popular stars.

    HEY Phil!
THANK YOU for reacting to this one, it's my FAV of Freddie & Montserrat's live performances!
I can't remember if I've requested these yet....
    "EXERCISES IN FREE LOVE"
This is the demo that Fred did for Montserrat; he's singing her part in SOPRANO.
(Please NOTE: The BEST link for this is just audio; the BEST quality post is one with a pic of Freddie in a bow tie & vest... There is a fanmade video out there, but it's CONFUSING/makes it seem like Montserrat is the one singing.)
    "ENSUENO"
This is the "follow-up"/finished song... a duet where Fred is accompanying Montserrat, singing in OPERATIC BARITONE.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY DAY, PHIL!

I believe Freddie is The Golden Boy. Its funny because in an interview in his earlier days, he was asked a question about did he suffer for his art?... He has often talked about his recognition etc.... and the lyrics truly are a fit for Freddie and his life and music.

Freddie fit any genre! Amazing! I would suggest 2: Dreamers Ball in France, live (New Orleans blues music) and "My Melancholy Blues" - 30's blues a la Ella Fitzgerald. Both Amazing!

Yes you should have that daft expression on your face, you mistype "Freddie" and mis-spell "Mercury" and miss the accent in "Caballé".
