Thank you for sharing a very picturesque dairy. The scenic area is a familiar site. Once you hit Chilliwack, you see wonderful farm land as well as berry crops. We used to go out the the Abbotsford area every summer when my wife's parents were living. The Coquihalla Highway helped shorten the drive from Calgary. Thank you for sharing a different dairy with your viewers.
Great farm tour. Thanks to both Matt and Jan. It is great to see how technology is helping farmers. A great idea to mount phone mast on top of a huge silage bin. Views are great in BC different from the flat flat flat Sask prairie. Greener there too, looks like they get more rain. Nice to hear you have a lighter day because of the rain.
An amazing tour video! Thanks Jan and Matt! Incredible technology! Absolutely stunning shots of the area! Glad you were able to enjoy a bit of a slower day. Enjoyed the video. Well done.
Nice tour Jan….your Dad still has an amazing set up and probably one of the nicest looking Dairies! Is there room for improvement, of course. But still a #10. ❤️
The technology to run today’s farms is fascinating. I’m sure all of the old school dairy farmers are watching from the alfalfa and cornfields of heaven, tipping their caps forward, frowning, and saying, “Boy, back in my day … “
Thanks Matt for the tour of your awesome dairy. The technology available now is pretty cool. My uncle used to milk his cows on a wooden stool into a galvanized bucket and then carry it into the house and run it through a cream separator. Jan it is clear why you have become such a rounded dairy ambassador. By doing these tours I am sure your head is filled with all kinds of ideas for your future. Thanks for sharing them with us all.
That's an awesome tour of Matt's farm Jan love farm tour videos always interesting to watch awesome drone footage at the end Your daily videos are awesome Jan always enjoyable to watch always looking forward to the next one Best wishes from Ireland 🇨🇮
When I first started milking, a stainless steel collector hung under the cow, held up by a leather strap over the cows back...collecting ten gallons of milk before we dumped it by hand into the big tank...my, how times have changed just in my years on this planet...Jan, aka SDK, another excellent video and I learned a lot by watching this video today! Thank you for all you do!! Jeff, dairy farmer from Pennsylvania.
Well there you have it folks, if we're going to continue to have farmers, the young farmers want the up-to-date equipment like this facility has and that cost money. Quite the investment here for 55 cows and bravo to him for taking the chance to continue what he obviously loves to do and that's farming. Is it expandable to put in a another robot down the line? Thank you for helping to feed the world and the best to you always.
Robots are for lazy farmers, or for those who expand beyond labour capacity. With modern parlour appliances like ACRs, drafting gates, automatic feeders, teat sprayers etc, milking can be done quickly and efficiently. Robots also don't suit outdoor systems generally.
@mikeryan7213 Many climates don't suit cows outdoors most of the year... Well fed, unstressed cows produce more milk than if they are stressed. If the system gives them the most contentment, least stress that is possible, it is a win-win system for both the cow and the farmer. Indoor freestalls with a 24 hour buffet have proven themselves to do just that.
Very impressed with the new technology on that dairy farm and its good to see the older barns are still being used for the future cows. By the way, the scenery is beautiful too.
Much appreciated for this upload, as I found it very enlightening. Back in my day, investing in one of those 'Blue Tombstones', was the death knell of that dairy and now they can use as a cell phone tower...Neat!
Awesome tour! But how can this be practical as the cost would be immense. So is this cost get absorbed into high milk prices or does labour saving make up for the front end cost of the robots and scraper. I must say I’m amazed at the robotics. The feeding system is truly amazing! Thanks Jan and God Bless BC farmers.
Beautiful farm, beautiful video, stunning countryside. I am a Hoosier who's never seen anyplace like that BC countryside, and it takes a dairyman's video farm tour to get me there, but it would take a lot more to get me home. Thank you, Jan and Matt, for the beautiful tour, as a lactation nurse in a hospital I was impressed by the longevity of the lady who has had 8 calves and 10 years of lactation. And she's still at it. I hope I got those numbers correct! Does she have a name? Your barn-in-barn is nice. Lovely video. Thank you for sharing your farm visit with us. With each of the videos you share with us city folk I learn a bit more. So this is what's great about UA-cam. I cannot explain to those naysayers.
Lovely valley and proud dairyman! Thanks for the tour. I’m happy to see young people keeping dairies going. The costs to run a farm vs the profit made are leading many dairies out of business. Automation must be expensive but modernizes the business and allows for an improvement in all facets of milk production, animal health, safety and control. Your herd in BC looks healthy and happy. Your old cow must have a name. The care you’ve given her has given her a good cow life. They have such happy faces. Greetings from the Tillamook region of Oregon.
Jan, I love it when you do these tours of other dairy farms. Now that your sister wants to strike out on her own, maybe it's time for you guys to consider a robotic milker on the home farm. We didn't get to see the robot milker in this video, dang it. I do wonder with how unreliable the robotic manure scrappers, along with the Juno are, what is the backup for the auto feeder?
🇫🇷 in Europe around 220/250k€ or 320/360 K CAD for one robot… and 60 cows .. huge investment / real payback or not ? Cows producing more with a robot … what is the economical feedback ? Great video Jan .. interesting to meet other farmers with you
The REALLY good news is, unlike ‘normal’ cell towers and wind turbines, when it breaks down/gets electrocuted by lightning/ceases to function as required by the cell or power company, Gala Dairy is still able to use the silo for silage - it’s not lost and wasted ground like current cell towers and wind turbines you see sitting in cornfields everywhere taking up a lot of space for the remainder of time.
Paying one robot Social Security as opposed to 3 humans.....I like it. Give the robot a raise, for efficiency, loyalty ; a real company asset as opposed to the human drudge. Sarcasm included sorry......I`m Canadian ! Good video, Jan !
It’s all real cool as long as it all works but as we all know with electronics they can fail! And what then? Does he have a small little feed wagon that would fit in his isles? Same with the robotic milker, what sort of pack up does he have there? I don’t want to sound negative but just being realistic. Thanks for the tour, very interesting!!
Interesting to know the back up plans in place if, for example that over head "grabber" breaks down, especially if it was Xmas eve? All systems need a just in case plan???
Seems like pretty soon no human intervention no longer needed on the farm. Possibly AI then get squirted by Shiite like Jan did while his Dad was standing by for UA-cam world. That was Classic Jan tube, Jan you had to be there. Priceless.
Ferdinand notices red…sleeping cow! - did pets?...Like the hair face now; sleeping pets? "September Morn"...Sniff, sniff, sniff…much easier on the equipment 😉…come on, gimmie!...cool dubs, not as cool as those blues
Well it looks like he still has time fill bunkers. I've never heard that feeding cows multiple times a day was good for them. So I assume he milks 3 times a day. So the 3 pvc white pipes are for perm or minerals.
It’s half sales pitch; the feed wagon capacity on that unit isn’t big enough to only feed once or twice a day so instead has to go out six as a result. So… instead of calling that a liability it’s sold as a benefit.
The robotic feed system will probably cost similar to buying a new tractor and mixer wagon. Now he purchased this instead and the accuracy of adding ingredients will be a lot more precise therefore saving $$$$ as well
You young man has without a doubt the best dairy farm show out there. Thank god Canadian!!!!! God bless you and your amazing hard working family.
The quality of Canadian milk & milk products is #1!

I'll tell you, this is stuff I couldn't even of imagined when I worked on the farm in the 70's. Automated feed machines? Computer controlled? LOL!

After driving tractor trailer all day. These videos are the highlight of my day. 😊

Yes, IowaDairyFarmer has 3 milking robots.

Thanks that was amazing. Loved the drone shots. What a cell tower!!!!
The dairy farm by us in southern Sask has one of those. Really cool
Pretty cool with the silo! Brilliant video 💪🏻 🏴
Thanks for a really interesting video. Thanks Matt for allowing us to tour your operation.

We're quite proud of our Fraser Valley Milk Producers, so glad you could visit! 🐄👍
You got to talk Dad into the claw grabber! Pure Awesomeness! 🐄
Very interesting tour video. My my how innovative farmers are becoming.
Really fascinating. I imagine the upfront costs were significantly higher but you'd need fewer people to milk and feed. Great video

NICE FARM!
I hope the mountains between BC and Saskatchewan didn’t scare the flat lander Jan. Lol
I really enjoy these tour videos! Thanks
“That is our Silo of Opportunity”! That guy is hilarious, and smart.
Really like the silo/ cell tower. The automatic feed system is interesting as well.

Love that intro!! Thanks for showing us around 😊
That feed system just might find your corrals a bit of a challenge.
Yes, but inside - talk about a time saver!
Cool tour,excellent guide…
🇺🇸🇨🇱
What a cool tour thanks
We use shredded straw for bedding up the stalls, very clean!
Cool vid Jan and thanks Matt
🤙🤙👍👍
Interesting Thanks
That's awesome farming there
Wow that Harvestore silo is one expensive cell tower!
Wow this dude’s crazy smart. I love that fun robot. Also the floors in that barn area looks so clean.
Thanks for sharing, I did enjoy watching this. Have a nice safe day!!
Cheers.

cow happiness as a design lens really works - for the farmer too!
Wow awesome farm love that he imbraces technology
Always nice to see small family farms!
Glad you all got rain
Excellent! Wondering how much more milk is produced with 5 small meals a day vs 2 feedings per day?

Great farm
nice video Jan. thank you
jan, you should put one of these on neline's goat farm. it would give you base to establish a kingdom in sk.
Send him the money to do it and I'm sure he would
This is a very good video you did for all of us to watch Thanks you much !!
soooooo cool, thx. Rob

awesome automated feed dairy farm # is this dairy farm also located in Saskatchewan ????? #❤️🇵🇰
No - they said BC multiple times
I noticed on that old gal that they had her shackled evidently She's going down a few times. Enjoyed your videos, thanks for sharing.
She's an aged cow, about like a human in her 50's -- many humans that age are starting to feel a bit of arteritis & aching joints in their legs, too.
Of course i have to look up the tag number. Almost 105000kg now!🎉
Was cool to see.
I have the same, good machine
I'd like to know how tall that silo is if Telus provided it
Hi Jan, love the video but when you feature a cow like that special girl or ones in your herd can you please tell us their sire.
Cheers 🇦🇺
That feed system is nice but I don’t see it working on your farms. He seemed like a nice guy.

We have aley scrapers from 2002 when we bilt the barn
This is a nice farm, but I prefer yours over this one
Great system, however not actually green at the end of the day.
