    Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! Do you think you can make a video about what you personally think got you accepted into KP School of Medicine? It's just amazing how you were accepted into a small medical school class among probably thousands of applicants! I seriously would love to get into this school when I apply for medical schools in the future.

      Hi! Thanks for such a sweet comment! I am working on addressing questions about what I think led to my acceptance into KPSOM and will be posting more videos about the school! Everything will be based on my own opinion though and I do not have any role in admissions. The most up-to-date and accurate information will come directly from the admissions office at KPSOM!

    Does prestige matter in terms of where you went to undergrad? (For getting accepted into top med school) I’d like to attend a prestigious university for undergrad, but I feel like it would be best to go to a local university to undergrad (economically)

    • @leandrad.9774
      @leandrad.9774  4 роки тому +6

      Hi! I posted a video entitled “Why I chose UCR over UCLA and UC Berkeley.” It’s the very first one posted on my channel. I think it will help answer some of your questions! Although the majority of applicants who interviewed with me at top med schools were from prestigious institutions, there were still a few from lesser known schools. In my opinion, it comes down to what you do at your university.

      Lilliam Pumpernickle hi Lilliam I am in my undergrad studying neuroscience. I had taken a few gap years after high school to work at a local ritual hospital as a float secretary to make sure medicine is something I truly want. I asked many of the doctors this and most of them actually came from small undergrad colleges such as saint mikes in vermont (the hospital I worked at is in vermont) or state schools. They said to me that medical schools would rather see you as a big fish in a small pond (smart hardworking student successful at a state school) than a small fish in a big pond (struggling student at an ivy school with average grades). Also finances is so important! You do not want to be left in so much debt from just your undergrad as the average medical school students debt when they graduate is $250,000. I took my gap years doing online school through community college to get my pre reqs out of the way while paying it off in cash. So I now am transferring to st mikes this fall majoring in neuroscience on a full academic scholarship. It’s something to consider. I have no student debt and will only have debt from Med school to worry about.

    It is mind blowing that you do not have to pay a tuition fee and received a scholarship for your living expenses. Are you taking out any loans? It will be so crazy if you graduate medical school debt free. Are you leaning towards any specialty already?

    • @leandrad.9774
      @leandrad.9774  4 роки тому +9

      Thank you! Yep, I should be able to graduate debt free without any loans. :) I’m pretty open-minded about specialties at the moment!

    • @John-ce2ie
      @John-ce2ie 4 роки тому +1

      Just asking some advice, personally i am an incoming freshman and i can graduate in my junior year if i take an average of 17 credits per semester bc of ap stuff and dual enrollment. But on the other hand i can graduate in the fall of my senior year if i take around 14 credits per semester. What do u think i should do? I feel like taking 17 will hinder my grades but at the same time taking 14 would be seen as not challenging myself. I want to apply in my junior year

    • @Brianna-zo8gr
      @Brianna-zo8gr 4 роки тому

      @@John-ce2ie hi dont take above 15 credits your first year because you will be burned out and takes a toll on your mental health . Enjoy life your only 17, join clubs meet people, possible volunteer, focus on your gpa and doing well in the prequisite. Furthermore if you did well in your first year and managed them maybe you can take more. Good luck on your journey!

    • @leandrad.9774
      @leandrad.9774  4 роки тому +1

      As an incoming freshman, I think you should get used to the pace of college courses first and establish study habits that work best for you. This would give you a better idea of the workload you’d be able to handle. Then you could think about when you’d like to apply to med school. In my opinion, it’s better to take your time and do well in your classes than rush. Hope this helps!
