Guide: Manual AWD 2GR-FE using Celica GT4 ST205 E154F gearbox

  • Here I show what is needed to fit the E154F gearbox to the 2GR-FE. The swap was done and installed in my AE111 levin back in 2021. After various events, it is still going strong to date. Its a task that requires patience as there is risk to both the block and gearbox from too much clearancing.

    3 questions:
    What controls the engine?
    What makes the flywheel?
    is 3s gte better or worse?

      The V6 in my opinion is better, you make power more easily and the torque is the fun factor. The ECU and Flywheel used are made by Frankenstein Motors in the USA.

      No experience with those engines unfortunately.

    thanks for your video. we are doing the same thing now. the 2gr comes in a st165. with the 154F gearbox. the gearbox already fits on it. we just haven't installed the flywheel and clutch yet. The ash from the bin is also not in there yet. (We are currently working with an empty gearbox due to the weight and the many fittings and measurements. We are just curious whether it is easy to assemble once the flywheel and clutch are mounted?

      Hi, yes the clutch assembly does make it more challenging to fit the gearbox and is one of the reasons why so much is removed from the engine belle-housing area. But once the areas as shown are grinded down, removing and installing the gearbox becomes very easy.

    Do you know what torque the gearbox is rated for? Any idea of what a rough drive train loss would be for it? Really cool!!

      Not 100% on the figures you are requesting, but perhaps you can research any high power st205 or st215 to get an idea.

    Is the engine control unit original?

      It is a flashed original ECU, from frankenstein motorworks
