No offense to Woody, but I miss Al. He is so good at what he does, hope you never really "Quits" making videos. Sharing his knowledge?? Man he is such a great source of information, skill and knowledge you just don't see anymore. Miss you Al!!!
Very much this. Even if it's only occasionally, I hope we get continue getting these educational videos every now and then! That's not to say Woody couldn't teach us, but we're used to Al being the lore master :P
Agreed. Woody is epic but Al was the ‘it’ factor; quiet charisma, desert dry humour, supremely knowledgeable, effortless communicator and just an epic bloke
Welcome back Al! Sometimes you need a break from the influencer grind so take them whenever you want for however long, we'll be here mate. You and Woody are good eggs and we appreciate both your voices so tag team or tandem we'll enjoy it!
An O'l Skool Ex Wrecker guy guy here too, And yes mixing and matching car bits was well practiced back in the day .. Had an RA23 Twin Cam with side draught Solexes as a yard " Drive Car " for a while .... Well done on keeping the memories and the Beastie Alive ..... 👍👍
Awesome build. I have a 1979 Toyota Corolla that I have plans for popping in either this engine or a 3S-GTE, haven't completely decided yet. If I go with the Beams I will definitely turbo charge it. Also thanks for sharing about the issues with the stock ECU, good to know upfront. The rally cars ran the 503E version of this engine family, but good luck finding one of those. They made upwards of 800hp or 597kw. 😍
Nice looking body. I have a '76 in storage, started restoring it for rust repairs, then had to park it due to landlord selling property, etc. 2lt Twin Cam import motor which only 200 came to AUS from Japan, a very good Yamaha head, the dual throat twin Solex carbs worked perfectly in 10 years I drove the car. I had 17 people wanting to buy the car in the years I owned it. Note: I recommend putting a water seal strip at the bottom of the side windows, as water gets through the factory brush set-up and sits in the bottom of the doors and frame, which is the main reason many of them went rusty. The gearbox never seemed to wear, same with the engine cam chain excellent. The rear diff needs shims put in to get rid of play, and the clutch bearing went after sitting undriven for a few years sitting outside, when I revved it to 8k+ to clean the exhaust pipe, lol. Lowered custom springs, cruised beautifully at 170km/h, (see you, factory wrx). Overall, good enjoyable classic car. [Admin of: Classic and Used car Supporters Group on FB]
Havent watched Mighty Car Mods in a long while. Took me three minutes in to realize that was Al. 😂 One of my favorite cars paired with one of my favorite engines, what a cool yet practical combo. 🤌 Getting ready to start a 3SGE swap into my RAV4 awd. Got a JDM import for stupid cheap! What a treat to see a master like Al break down such an awesome build. You can tell he low key really likes the BEAMS series. The Aussies always have the coolest import builds. 🙏👌
Awesome car, I'm a big Celica fanboy with a few GT-Fours in the shed. One of these, either with a BEAMS or 4AGE is very high on my list of cars to build in the next 5 years.
Ahhhh Al! Its great to see and hear you again, we've missed you loads, but it's good to know you've been tinkering and building cool stuff. Like running into a long lost friend, getting to listen to you again. 🙌 Keep your head up, keep your heart strong. ❤
This exact car with this exact swap is on my top 10 list of cars I want to build before I die. My mom owned a 1977 GT-LB when I was very young. One day. So happy to see Al back. Would love to shake your hand one day, sir.
good to see Al is still at it, good to see a diiferent build being a "budget" build and an older celica bodyshape. back in the day when i worked for importers the old 18RG twin cam was the budget performance for these models.
Al with the shortest retirement in Automotive UA-cam history, haha. Good to see you again! The 3S family of motors in general are pretty under rated these days with all the 1 and 2j Swaps but they're seriously cool engines. Be sweet to see this thing with a snail in the future. Cheers.
Perfect timing since I got my 1975 TA22 back on the road 2 days ago 🍻 running the old school 2T-G twin cam and glorious twin side draft no power noises 🤣👌🍻
My mate had a TA22 celica back in the 90's early 2000's and it was so much fun to drive. You'd ring the piss outta the little 1600 and it'd love it! The gearbox was so notchy and awesome too.
Thanks Al, great to see you again! Love this car, reminds me of when i was younger riding around in these cars back in the day, Awesome to see they are still keeping them alive.
This is so nostalgic for me. I could have sworn I have the same photo album as I had a very similar yellow RA23 Celica in the early 90's to drive to uni, only to save up to buy an import TA63 Celica with the turbo 3TGTE engine.
Love the mix of al and wood! But must say I love me some wood ha-ha keen to support you woodrigues. Keep on it mate big ups to you man very hard going out and getting it done.
MAF sensor...it helps to have some straight before it so there is laminar flow. Had similar issues with a 1nz trying to get it sorted. Sometimes a screen before the sensor helps
Worked a Toyota back in the early 70s so this brings back lots of fond memories. Pity the old Rover got so tired, thats also a great engine with plenty of potential. (here in Europe)
Ah, I love that gen Celica. I always wished I'd had the means to put my GT Liftback in cold storage for later, and that'd be just the kind of swap I'd want to do. :) Good to see you again, Al. :)
That used to be a cstom in the UK, you could say the rover was our chev v8 , it was a buick 218 cu in (BLMC) purchased the rights. The over V8 was tuned our to 4.8 litres by the car co (TVR), for their rare as rocking horse shirt TVR 450 SEAC (Special Equipment Aramid Composite)with the most outrageous spoiler on a convertible!!!! Saw one for real, and the sound as bitchin' , piss yellow louder than Thor launching a bottom burp. It was being tested by Land Rover engineering for developing the 3.9 ltre into the 4.5 ltre engine.
Al came back with a pack of smokes but he forgot the milk and had to pop back to the shops…
🥺
Brought the milk but forgot the pack of smokes
Cats in the Cradle😢
He looks happier, so if a month or two cigarette break is what dad needs..
I'm not mad. A least he still visits, unlike my other dad 😐
Good to see you Al!!. Love the car. Thanks for taking us through the build!!
Your special guest seems knowledgeable, he should be a regular.
The old guys at the wreckers who knew how everything mixed and matched together, thats how we feel about you Al ❤
Absolutely! I loved when they'd go into Al's parts hoard and emerge with some bits (mostly from old Subarus) to unblock a project 🔧
Glad to see you again Al, we've missed you. Hope you are doing well.
No offense to Woody, but I miss Al. He is so good at what he does, hope you never really "Quits" making videos. Sharing his knowledge?? Man he is such a great source of information, skill and knowledge you just don't see anymore. Miss you Al!!!

Nice to see and hear Al again.
Ahhh that voice of Al, all i need is a warm bed and a bottle of milk. with a hint of woody.
Quality comment
😂
Woody is doing a brilliant job in his own but its lovely to hear your dulcet tones again Alan xx
Please don't go away too far from the Skid Factory, Al; your points of view and explanations teach us all so much!
Nice build.
Who else here is watching 'Sara'n'tuned' putting a 3UZ in her Celica?
It ain’t Skid Factory without Al! Great episode. 👍
The Beams 3sge is so good, I've been running mine for 10 years basically untouched
Miss you man. Keep on sticking on
Hell yes! Working on my own -76
Such awesome cars!
P.S. Have those exact same rims on mine too :)
Edit: I actually have the wider supra wheels, but they look almost exactly the same!
Welcome back Al! Sometimes you need a break from the influencer grind so take them whenever you want for however long, we'll be here mate. You and Woody are good eggs and we appreciate both your voices so tag team or tandem we'll enjoy it!

and if (like me) no one knew how to work on solexes, sidedraft webers off a wrecked alpha bolted on and worked without rejetting
Great to see Al back 🎉😊
Nice to see you again Al. Nice car and good story. Fun fact that late 90's there where couple similar Celicas with Rover v8's here in Finland too🫡
Good to see and hear Al!
The Al-fonso tune up was a sound to behold. Another great Skid Factory project👍
Maybe Al-fonso's tuning services would make a good shirt?
Awesome build. I have a 1979 Toyota Corolla that I have plans for popping in either this engine or a 3S-GTE, haven't completely decided yet.

Great Video. I remember when you could buy a New Celica in the showroom. Nice to see a Surviving Car. Thanks, Al.
Great to see Al back, but Woody you're doing an awesome job
Thanks mate, still got a bit to finish off in the shed and I’ll be cracking Into some projects!
Looking forward to it👍

F'n Al back at the Factory with that knowledge!
Love those old mini muscle Celicas.
Great to see you back Al!

Mega cool car! These beams engines sound incredible on ITB's!
Nice, thanks for saying hello Al.
Great to see Al, on ya boys 🍻
Leaving a comment to say thank you. A million thoughts in my head won't say it well enough. Thank You.
I did the same swap to my sa22c rx7. The improvement in power, weight, and reliability was totally worth it.
Perfect timing since I got my 1975 TA22 back on the road 2 days ago 🍻 running the old school 2T-G twin cam and glorious twin side draft no power noises 🤣👌🍻
Love these celicas as well as the 1985-88 st162 sx models with the brilliant 3sge engine
Fun stuff. Great to see Al as well
Great looking Celica, lovely job, great to see you again, Al!
My mate had a TA22 celica back in the 90's early 2000's and it was so much fun to drive. You'd ring the piss outta the little 1600 and it'd love it! The gearbox was so notchy and awesome too.
I hit one on a motorbike and knocked all the bog and rust out of it. I actually wrote the car off it was more bog than metal
Thanks Al, great to see you again!
Love this car, reminds me of when i was younger riding around in these cars back in the day, Awesome to see they are still keeping them alive.
Love you Al 👍 😂 playing with my emotions like my dad did when he left back in 1997 😅
I love this car!! The skid factory boys always educating me on stuff 😀
This is so nostalgic for me. I could have sworn I have the same photo album as I had a very similar yellow RA23 Celica in the early 90's to drive to uni, only to save up to buy an import TA63 Celica with the turbo 3TGTE engine.
Love seeing Al pop in every now and then! Keep up the good work gents!

Love the mix of al and wood! But must say I love me some wood ha-ha keen to support you woodrigues. Keep on it mate big ups to you man very hard going out and getting it done.

You have to hear the engine in person, the best sounding 4 cylinder.

Welcome back Al. I had a GT4 Homologation model. Great engine. Blokes in the states are getting 1000hp out of them.
That Toyota Celica it looks amazing Well Done Fixing it up the Engine👏👏👏👏
Just yesterday I was thinking about the Celica you guys talked and earlier. Nice to see the build review atleast!
I remember one of these with a 308 Holden engine in it from way back in the 1980's, it was a beast
Ah, I love that gen Celica. I always wished I'd had the means to put my GT Liftback in cold storage for later, and that'd be just the kind of swap I'd want to do. :) Good to see you again, Al. :)
Sarah-n-tuned should love this
Great cars. Put a 2TG twin cam with side draughts into a mate's same Celica 30 years ago. Sounded so good flat out sideways on dirt roads😆
Alan. This made my week. I know you’re not getting the band back together and that’s ok with me. Great to see you.

Loving the mix of woody doing the next generation and then back in the shed with Al. You definitely have thumbnail these videos AL-Talks 😂
Now, the seniors in the back. - We like AL! We like AL!
A legendary classic right there, the car isn't bad either.
Would love to see Al on the channel every once and again to show some of what he is up too
