When you lay your head down tonight, may I ask a favor and send some prayers to my hometown of Mayfield, KY? Would be much appreciated. Have a day, and don't take it for granted.
Also hometown of my maternal grandmother, from birth in 1902 through marriage in 1928 or 1929. Mom was born there too in 1930. Only distant relatives until 1970’s and know of none since. Just awful for the residents there and elsewhere along that tornado’s path. Prayers
Mike - Best quote of the day - "If you don't like sawdust, you probably wouldn't buy a sawmill." Made me smile big time. Thanks for what you are doing. Blessings to you and your family. Hi to Melissa, Hunter, Levi, & Eva.
Mike that tornado that was on the ground for 230 miles was a direct hit to our little town of Dawson Springs Kentucky lost probably 80% of the town be we was blessed our house was spared with no damage love what y’all are doing
Be glad you got rain the sun was out today, but it was 19 degrees. Might warm up tomorrow, just being outside for a few minutes and your ears burn and fingers get numb fast, I can't wait until spring comes even though winter has just started I've had enough already, but I know more snow is coming, just turned 60 on the 3rd and my bones tell me I need a hot tub badly maybe Santa will bring one, out in montana we go to Chico hot springs for the day that's 25 miles south of Livingston, you and your family have a merry Christmas, God bless you and your family, Chance and Debbie
I like your answers. When you say, I have no idea. Takes a strong guy to just be honest. Definitely praying for all the folks devestated in the storms.
Mike, thank you for for your kind words for the victims of the horrible tragedy from the tornados this weekend. I happen to live in one of the counties affected. The small farming community of Bremen was devastated with 11 deaths, one being a 5 month old baby boy.😥 I live on the south end of the county and Bremen is on the north west end of the county. We did not experience any of the bad weather as they did. Our youngest son and daughter-in-law and 20 month old grandson live about 1 mile from the area of the damage. The area they live in did not sustain any damage, thank you Jesus. The out pouring of love shown to the people of Bremen and the surrounding areas affected has been amazing. Country folks taking care of country folks! Please continue to keep everyone affected by these storms in your prayers! Everyone just keep smiling like Melissa and moving forward! God Bless 🙏
Good evening from Upstate South Carolina. I guess Melissa's jokes are so funny that she's got the center of the logs all cracked up. Nice video. Have a productive day.
You are correct on the sawdust being on the side the blade moves too. On the controls, they probably don't want them on the side the log could possibly roll off from on the bed. The uprights on the other side keep it there, but on the other side, depending on where the person tightens it up, could be a safety issue. Just my thought. Perhaps if you had it up in the air a foot, over a collection grate, that would help with the sawdust (but would also be a pain).
I rarely ever post but though I'd say please pray for everyone hit by the storms. I live in Sharon, Tn. and just after the big Tornado that lasted for over 200 miles clipped NW Tennessee and moved on into Ky. a second tornado tracked roughly a half mile north of our house. We were lucky but the town I grew up in just down the road, Dresden Tn. was devastated. A majority of downtown destroyed. I never thought just seeing a shot of someone driving through their home town could spark so many emotions. When you try to get you mind off of something tragic any little thing can snap you right back. As I said we are ok but so many others lost so much, homes, businesses, etc. Please keep all those affected in you prayers.
Since you quit your job Mike you and Melissa seem so very much happier and joke with each other! Melissa seems happier and content as do you. The two of you are in your element and have so many things to keep you busy and happy
You need to put the sawmill on a raised table. Then you can add a walking platform with a grate where the discharge is. Add a conveyer under the grate. The sawdust falls through the grate and the conveyer moves it away. Should be easy enough to do with your skills. ;)
One of the reasons you have not hit the log rests yet, is because they are on the left (operator) side of the saw. Much easier to see and is one of the trade -offs for having the sawdust extraction on the operator side. My mill is operator on the right, log rest on the left, with the one log rest a little shorter than the other. That would be the first one the blade hits. Prayers to everyone affected by this tragic storm.
Mike no doubt you're good / excellent at cobbling together these videos. Good clear voice, interesting material and you keep your audiences attention...Kudos
Awesome looking lumber!! Yeah Mike I think You get very similar weather than we do at times about a day or so later!! We had the Big winds and the sudden drop in temperature the other day!! Have a Day!! 😀👍👊
Most of Woodmizers mills are a one post design which lends itself to the controls on the left so it just also ties right into the rest of they’re mills following the same designs I’m sure for ease. If your mill sat a bit higher you can hang a 5 gal bucket at the discharge and every other cut dump it into a big wheel barrow. This also In the long run helps with clean up. Works good for us. You do get into the habit of just dumping the bucket real quick and hanging it back up. Thanks Mike for another video. Hey Hunter!
Beautiful oak lumber. My son and I installed oak flooring in our home a year or so back. About 2000 sqiare feet of it; all on a 45 degree diagonal.. Totally love it!
Love your channels sent a christmas card to your family getting to retire this month myself PRAYERS FOR THOSE PEOPLE DOWN SOUTH OF YOU.................
I think it’s so your always are looking at your log stops. Love your videos. Hope to see you and Melissa at Paul bunyan show again next year. Nancy and I enjoyed talking to you and Melissa. Merry Christmas to you all and your families. Love all from keyser wv
Good evening all! Got my Christmas shopping for the wife done today. Now to wrap, meaning I’ll staple them up in decorative bags! Nice looking oak! As bark-free as the cutoffs are, most of it could go to bundled firewood, couldn’t it? I got 15 gallons at $4.48/gal yesterday. Learned another spot was $3.88 today, so I cost myself $9. Won’t go out west again. My last go-to place had about a pint of water in each 5-gal can. Expensive water! More so because there was a warranty service that became my expense. Long, sad story.
I live in Mayfield Kentucky which is pretty ground zero for the worst of the tornado impact from the storms on Friday night. I didn't have any tornado damage myself, other than losing power and water for a few days we were untouched. we live about three and a half miles south of downtown which was almost totally destroyed. The pictures and videos on TV don't show just how bad it really is. I have thought of you on occasion while driving around. If you were here you could pick up more potential firewood than you could split with three Wolf Ridge splitters over the course of your natural life. Keep up the good work.
I see a number of bird feeder live channels on You Tube lately….this might be a good source of additional revenue for you guys with the habitat you live in!
I have to say I love your deer hunting stories Mike. In our part of Australia we hunt Samba deer very much in a solitary fashion, if there is someone else around, they aren’t around. If you go hunting Samba, you do it on your own. I also love how cheap your fuel is!
If it was a hydraulic mill the log lift would be on the other side and you couldn’t walk there. I suppose Woodmizer makes the manual mills the same for economy of the assembly line and parts etc. On the Northwest Sawyer channel he has a hydraulic portable mill. I’ve noticed he also has to walk around the tire. But he has a 3-4 ft rubber hose on his discharge that puts the sawdust past his walking area.
Would love to see a couple of videos on your maintenance of stuff around the shop. Shop day videos of tractor maintenance and saw sharpening etc. I don’t have nearly the equipment you do but I have an old tractor and a few saws and probably would learn a thing or two. Would be nice to see every now and then. I feel like we get the show but never behind the scenes.
Great video Mike!, the weather ain't looking to bad for a few days, but after the weekend looking the highs will be in the 40's but i can handle that!. Morgans have a day!.
I added a bucket to my discharge port. Have barrels at the end. Its a 3 gallon bucket so I get 2 or 3 passes before I have to dump it. And I hate shoveling sawdust.
Going to take a wild guess here, but I'm guessing that you are going to use the lumber for inside the building. The Cherry, Oak is just top notch. The live slabs would be fantastic for counter top or desk top. Great videos, enjoy the designs for shirts and stuff too. (looking forward to the pool install hopefully in the spring.) Keep up the good work.
Hi Morgans, blessings! Enjoy your videos. One thing I notice is the first cut slabs. I've seen some nice offset fences made of them, vertical with flat side to rail board, offset on opposite sides.
What do I know, but I think the reason the controls and discharge are on the same side because the other side is the loading side, and a lot of saw mills have power lifts and racks, so you can't have either the saw dust discharge or the controls there as well. Just my reasoning.
Mike, I have the same gas can and they are the best. They also will auto stop if you put the nozzle in the tank. Search no spill gas cans on you tube, video by acme tools shows it. I can’t add the link due to your hackers! They also sell an extension tube for the nozzle.
We are in Maryland and thought the wind was big until we turned on the news 💔. Glad you guys are safe. We just started our bundled firewood business in MD, and wanted to say, “Hi neighbor!”. Thanks for inspiring our family to start living and enjoying the outdoors with firewood!
Good afternoon Mike, this weather is something else right now isn’t it? Makes it kind of nice with today’s weather so available. It’s really unfortunate that all the damages and deaths happened and especially right around Christmas. Prayers and contributions to the right organizations can help some. We give thanks for our area being spared and for you folks too. As for your question about the saw dust exit and controls being on the same side is because of the ease of discharge and best location and the controls being on the same side is cost of materials and everything being closer together. Just thinking from the designers point of view. Thanks for sharing with us, anymore words about Eva? Sure glad Hunter is getting out and about some with you 👍🏻👍🏻✋🏻✋🏻. You all stay safe and keep up the good work and videos. Fred.🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻✋🏻✋🏻👊🏻👊🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I've hit the uprights with my mill. Not happy to destroy a blade that way. I've been thinking that I will cut some Ash replacement posts and see if that will work. Maybe not for turning the log, but we'll see how it works. My sawmill is a Frontier. The discharge is on the opposite side from the controls. I have seen a few mills where the owner has added a piece of pipe to the discharge spout to move the pile further away. You could try that to at least get a walking path.
Nice to see you and Jim interact, if you could have a kiln that was powered by wood I think it would be a lot less expensive, still praying for Hunter and Eva and the family, have a day
Do a update on the wood shed, how it is after X amount of time using fresh milled lumber. I would love to see it now. Every once in a blue moon you get a glimpse of it in a video,. Thanks Mike.
Nice saw log! That Red Oak would make some great flooring. I know my sawmill guy has an extension on his hose which helps him get the sawdust a bit further away. Mike, thanks for the information on Simplysafe. I will look into that for our home. We are going to add security because we are the last house in the country before the major road intersection. Just for a piece of mind! Glad to hear you and hunter got to go put to eat and get a Chicken Sandwich! He inspires me each day! Have a day Mike!
we use are slab cut off,s to mix in with are bundles it works awsome for put,ing on outside of the bundles.we all so split slab cut off,s down for kindling as well people Love it in my area mixing it in with bundles save,s A ton of regular split wood.
If you like sheetz, you should try wawa. I’m not sure how far west in PA it goes, but we have a ton here in Easter pa. They’re also in NJ, VA and even Florida.
The machine is a left hand drive. Just started watching your channel and LOVE the choice of music and that I don't have to be scrambling for the volume control... Keep up the good work.
Hey Mike. We live in W Ky very near one of the towns that got leveled by the tornado . I was at my farm over the weekend, about 100mi north of here and there was pieces of paper and insulation in my fields. A high school graduation announcement from here was found on a farm close to my farm 100 miles north...
MIKE ! I BUY ALREADY MIXED NON ETHANOL FUEL . 92 OCTANE! But I don't have the EQUIPMENT YOU DO THAT USES THAT MUCH FUEL? Love it! TRUE 👍 FUEL AT ACE! KEEPS EVERYTHING RUNNING SMOOTHLY AND THE FUEL LINE DOES NOT CLOG OR ROTT AS ETHANOL WILL MAKE THEM DO! GREAT VIDEO YOUNG MAN! TELL EVERYBODY AT FORT MORGAN I SAID HELLO AND 👋! HAVE A DAY!
Mike, it was raining so hard that I think Sasquatch needs a rain parka or at least an umbrella! Beautiful lumber, btw. In NC gas was 1.65 just before the election, just saying! Nice shot of downtown and I love the sawmill work!
Can't control the weather. But it makes some good content watching the clouds speed by. The logs are beautiful Mike. Can't wait to see you use them around the building. Sheetz convenience stores are great. When we would take our son to college in Williamsport PA we stopped there and get gas and food. It's on par with Wawa. Stay safe.
We don't have any Sheetz convenience stores in or around San Diego (CA) - yet !! Àre they the same as 7-11 stores (24hr.operation) ? Getting cooler here today - must be down to high 50° F here this morning with a little "wet stuff", which you call rain in PA. We are considered 'desert' area, so I shouldn't complain, I guess !! Tee Hee !! Still interesting viewing, Mike !!
I like the blade that makes the groove fore the saw blade on your mill I bet it sure saves on band blades. I have a woodland mills 126 and I am not cutting dirty wood but mostly white poplar a harder wood and blades don't last very long. I am always sharpening blades.
Not many ethanol free gas stations on Long Island. 87 is running around $3:39. Run a lot of VP 50:1 $85 -95 for a 5 gallons. How about a 50:1 pre-mix fuel comparison test ? Buy 5 gallons of each and run it. VP, Stihl, True, Husqvarna, Echo, what ever you can get near you.
Hi Mike, I enjoy the videos! What if you added a small angled "bulldozer" blade that wipes away a trail it wouldn't need to move much sawdust and it would give you a nice level path to walk?
I believe the sawdust discharge is on the operator side as to leave the opposite side clear for loading, log flipping etc. Discharging to the other side means the saw blade teeth rake would be opposite and the motor drive system would need to run the opposite direction as you are always pulling the blade thru the log
Mike, what other use for the sawdust? Maybe spread it out on the woods trail, use for composting, sell to make pellets for stove use? Good for off-grid camps outhouse use. Will a strong shop vac pick that sawdust up?
Yes, the sawdust goes the way the blade rotates. The designer messed up on control placement. Otherwise that is a perfect sawmill. Shout out to Hunter and Eva. Merry Christmas everyone.
It's good, the LX 450 and similar are knocking on perfect. The only thing left is getting rid (?) of the engine, go all electric, exchange some hydraulics to linear motors (or servo motors) so that 3X16A 380 Volt is enough for the sawmill. With good programming it should be possible, it's all about limitting whitch functions one can use simultanously. I think that the thing is to split between sawing and loghandling. The motor for the blade and the motor for feed and for setting should not be a problem. But how to get enough power for the hydraulics (mostly for the loglifters) can be challenging. Then some kind of laser (should be from both ends) with "auto-aim" to get the pith (?) dead center 😏🤭... The Swedes (Logosol) just launched their hydraulics for their saws, and I think that it is possible that they come up with a electrical bandsaw with hydraulics. There are the larger ones (serra-sawmills.com) but not yet in customer-size. But in two weeks Christmas is over and we will know who got the nicest, biggest and most expensive toys! Whish you all the best here from Russias neighborhood, 🇫🇮 Hanko in Finland 🤗!
Easy answer.......It's a direct result of rotation...The left is the shortest point from the actual cutting position which also equates to the shortest exit point.....The left exit port allows sawdust to exit & not continue up & thru the entire machine !
To bagbtheres no way to hang feed bags on it to catch the saw dust. I jeep a bag of saw dust in the car in case I ever get stuck in the snow. I've used it several times an it really works. Just s FYI. Gave a good one Mr mike
When I bought my sawmill, the distributor told me there are two kinds of sawmill owners, 'The ones who have hit the post, and those who haven't hit them yet." I got mine out of the way during the first month. So now I'm more careful than before. Thanks for the videos.
I have a Norwood on mine you walk on the opposite side of the sawdust discharge and if the wind blows in the right direction it blows it into your face. When your on the same side of the discharge your above the discharge.
hey mike - question for you - what applications are you able to use lumber right after it’s milled, and what applications is it best to sticker it and let it “cure”? thanks
Hi Mike, Bruce here, an update, ethanol free fuel is available from only one oil company here in the UK, ESSO, it costs £7.82 per gallon in my area, the other option is to by from Stihl who have 5 ltr containers @ £15.83 or $21.51 + VAT (20%).

The NORWOOD has a guard that you can set just below blade height to catch uprights before blade hits it.
@@jimputnam2044 Thanks Jim - Will have to see If I can put them on my Frontier
I’m in middle Tennessee and I could hear the tornado that Dickson county which is about 3 miles north of me..
Woah, thats close
Nice to see you and Jim interact, if you could have a kiln that was powered by wood I think it would be a lot less expensive, still praying for Hunter and Eva and the family, have a day
“If you don’t like sawdust you probably wouldn’t buy a sawmill” I completely agree🤣
Do a update on the wood shed, how it is after X amount of time using fresh milled lumber. I would love to see it now. Every once in a blue moon you get a glimpse of it in a video,. Thanks Mike.
Mike and family, I got say that I really love the Archie shirts. Another fun video, keep up with the great work.
Your becoming a really good Sawyer. Thanks for the video
we use are slab cut off,s to mix in with are bundles it works awsome for put,ing on outside of the bundles.we all so split slab cut off,s down for kindling as well people Love it in my area mixing it in with bundles save,s A ton of regular split wood.
Beautiful lumber Mike, you guys stay safe 🙂
Good afternoon to all from SE Louisiana 13 Nov 21.
If you like sheetz, you should try wawa. I’m not sure how far west in PA it goes, but we have a ton here in Easter pa. They’re also in NJ, VA and even Florida.
Thanks for sharing
The machine is a left hand drive. Just started watching your channel and LOVE the choice of music and that I don't have to be scrambling for the volume control... Keep up the good work.
Hey Mike. We live in W Ky very near one of the towns that got leveled by the tornado . I was at my farm over the weekend, about 100mi north of here and there was pieces of paper and insulation in my fields. A high school graduation announcement from here was found on a farm close to my farm 100 miles north...
Good evening Hunter :-) and family and friends :-) Hi Melissa , I got your card in todays mail with the sticker -- thank you so much
HAVE A DAY!
The sawdust discharges on that side so you have a nice soft walk. LOL
Mike, it was raining so hard that I think Sasquatch needs a rain parka or at least an umbrella! Beautiful lumber, btw. In NC gas was 1.65 just before the election, just saying! Nice shot of downtown and I love the sawmill work!
The equivalent average gallon in Sydney Australia is $6.81 /gallon (3.735 litres/ American gallon
Merry Xmas Morgan family. Xx love from New Zealand.. Hey Hunter.. Xx.
Mike your doing a great job with the wood.
We had heavy rains and high winds Saturday night
Mike hope Eva and hunter are doing well # GodBless.
Hi Mike, I enjoy the videos! What if you added a small angled "bulldozer" blade that wipes away a trail it wouldn't need to move much sawdust and it would give you a nice level path to walk?
Hi mike beards looking great buddy looks like your keeping it ok
Yes, but why are controls on that side?
I live in Bloomsburg, PA
Great looking wood. I saw someone that had a bag on his sawdust chute and just emptied it when full, might work 🤠 Stay safe and ❤️ to all.
Build a Extension for the Dump to move it further away from the Saw. HEY HUNTER! Hope Everyone Has a Beautiful Happy Morgan Christmas!
To bagbtheres no way to hang feed bags on it to catch the saw dust. I jeep a bag of saw dust in the car in case I ever get stuck in the snow. I've used it several times an it really works. Just s FYI. Gave a good one Mr mike
I have the same thing with my that I have. I like your solution to the issue .
Chicken sandwiches, laundry, and premium firewood, the Huntman rules!
When I bought my sawmill, the distributor told me there are two kinds of sawmill owners, 'The ones who have hit the post, and those who haven't hit them yet." I got mine out of the way during the first month. So now I'm more careful than before. Thanks for the videos.
Lol
Not wishing you any bad luck. Thanks.
I think Tuesday will be the pick day this week.......
