This song is on the Escape album. I bought this album in 9th grade. I never would play the 2nd side because I loved the first side so much. I got turned on to this song when I saw a clip of one of the replacement drummers on journey singing it and playing drums in concert. It was amazing. It is now one of my favorite journey songs. Weird how it took over 25 years for me to recognize this song as one of my faves. All those years sitting on side 2 of the cassette... being ignored by me. Ha.
Mother, Father Journey She sits alone, an empty stare A mother's face she wears Where did she go wrong, The fight is gone Lord help this broken home Hey, mother, father, sister Hey, come back, tryin', believein' Hey, mother, father, dreamer Don't you know that I'm alive for you I'm your sevenths son And when lightin' strikes the family Have faith, believe. With dreams he tried, lost his pride He drinks his life away One photograph, in broken glass It should not end this way. Through bitter tears And wounded years, those ties Of blood were strong So much to say, those yesterdays So now don't you turn away. Hey, mother, father, sister Hey, come back, tryin', believein' Hey, mother, father, dreamer
HI DAVE,THIS IS LORETTA FROM CHICAGO.WHAT A WONDERFUL PIECE OF MUSIC .I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR STYLE .THIS IS JUST GREAT.THANKS FOR THE ARRANGEMENT.
Gorgeous, simply gorgeous Dave.I keep expecting Steve Perry to join in with his soaring vocals! You certainly give this song the heart felt emotion it deserves.Love it!
wow!!! i love your JOURNEY renditions. Of course, I'm a die hard Steve Perry only Journey fan. I could listen to your instrumental versions all day. Of course we're singing along, my 16 yr old daughter and I. Yep, she's a Journey fan too. Knows all of their songs. God bless
This particular song i don't care for it with the lyrics, but your piece is wonderful. When i was a kid, a long time ago, we had an album of classical music by various composers that i would listen to every night. Again, not a huge fan of classical, but that album was somehow magical. This song as you have done it, would have sounded right at home on that album. I still recall it fondly. Wonderful job on this piece. I am sure i will be revisiting it alongside your other arrangements. Thanks
Very interesting version of the song, made a note of his soul. If I'm not mistaken you have another entry for this song. I do not know what song, but for your beautiful music and words are not needed.
There is so much feeling in this song. I was in a full moon mode this morning, after listening to you play I'm neutral, thank you for play. The music is the medicine of the soul.
This is soooo beautiful!!!! I love the way you played this piece. There is so much feeling in it. There are not many people that have the ability to do that when playing music. That is like a gif that few have. Thanks!!!
That's a great story....btw Deen the drummer for Journey does the very best job I have ever heard of this piece since Perry . you say 25 years for me to recognize this song ....it made me think about life a very long time ago....very strange feeling I had all week with this piece .....it has that much of a grip on people....Thanks for stopping by....
David, this is so beautiful..... I love the piano, and wow....just unbelievable. Saving this to listen to in my 'Favorites' section. Absolutely gorgeous!
Hello David, the music is absolutely wonderful! I like to listen to your compositions because piano music transmits differently then any other compositions. It has that special touch, it brings memory. It brings the warmth of home, and the time when one was a child perhaps. Compliments to you on your new beautiful composition, That is very much appreciated and loved. It is a quality track that I like. Thank you...Zuzanna
Thanks David.....I have done this piece a few times in the past ....that is how I met Rick Rici......he took this off youtube and sang to it....I think it's a version when I played live into the camera....this new one I did I started with a clean sheet....
I've never heard this track before! You have certainly composed a fluent and possibly "educational" version of this music which I can see other contributors are also greatly enjoying. Well done. I look forward to catching up with your other videos when time permits!
Wow!! I can almost here Steve's voice on this!! I'm glad Ross Muir pointed me to your posts, and to the ones on soundcloud. I am a big Journey/Steve Perry fan, always looking for new ways to enjoy their music... looks like I found a great spot to sit and listen!! Ross says to say HI! by the way!!
Dale Moar Hi Dale......Thanks so much for all the interest ....remember all the tracks on Soundcloud are downloadable for free.....Say hi to Ross for me....
Hey Dave, man, that was powerful. Such an emotional piece, and even without the loud overdriven guitar you kept it sounding just as heavy. Did I ever tell you that Escape was the first album I ever owned? I was only 10 years old when I got it in 1981 (hard to believe that my oldest son is just 1 year away from that age!). What an amazing piece of vinyl... I still have it too, but it's a little bruised. My older brother wrote "sucks" on the front not long after I got it LOL... ahh the memories :)
Well, after hearing some Karaoke versions (if you can find em), it's nice to hear your renditions which allow me to sing to my favorite instrument. Very Nicely Done Dave!
I am a singer and would like for u to hear what I can do with the journey. Steve is my vocal coach as Sam cook was his and love love love what u r doing
I've heard you on this tune! I think it was last summer, don't you and Ricii have a version out? I'm a tad odd in that I rarely play a melody on piano. I love your playing style and your arrangements, but prefer your vocalized recordings.
@@dgcmusi would you post or email me the sheet music. My 11 year old has been playing piano since he was 5 and he just saw journey in st louis last month and loved it

so many memories... good and sad ...with your music focusing the good ones
