@@xav9258 - A pretty judgmental statement. I am certain he has his reasons for selling his memorabilia collection. And, whatever the reason(s) may be, that is his business. And, how do you know if other popular artists have not auctioned their memorabilia collection? I can probably name a few.
@@lolam.9291 Alan gave some of his reasons in these videos, although I think the main instigator for this auction was what he told a reporter separately, which is that he was going through an "ugly" divorce and had to sell a lot of his things off to finance it. Now, it doesn't make sense, purely in terms of money, that he had to sell his musical instruments and collectibles. He didn't absolutely need that limited amount of money, per se, but what does make sense is that he was forced to sell his beloved home (that's a fact--it was put on sale 12 years ago, and sold for £4.5 million, which is about $5.5 million today), which was huge enough to contain all of the things he owned and had collected over the years. Alan had to move into a much smaller home after his divorce settlement, so what makes the most sense is that he could no longer physically accommodate all of his stuff (and he is definitely the collector type--without the giant mansion he used to live in, he'd have no room left to move around at home, and be considered a hoarder!). And also, when asked which charity the proceeds of the auction were going to, he said that Alan Wilder was the "charity", so I guess while he didn't need the money, he still found £200,000 or so (about $240,000) too much to give away. Alan's reasons are his business, of course, but some of them are known things that he has stated in public.
His home WOW , that’s what a rock stars house should be , not some Gaudy Faux mock Tudor mansion or som3 shite you see on TV , I’ve met Alan Wilder on a number of occasions and he’s a gentleman and humble and actually really witty and funny , plus a musical genius, multi talented, his input turned DM into the mega selling band they becam3
Maybe [nope] the biggest crime of Depeche Mode is that the existing members did not fight for Wilder's stayed membership. Whether they admit it or not, the band suffered for his absence. The perfect sound was always between Gore, Gahan, and Wilder. Such a shame.
I think that Alan's departure took them all by surprise. He didn't tell anyone until he had made up his mind about it. It's not like he talked about it for a while and gave everyone a chance to talk him out of it.
I knew they sounded different although I still listened to their music by 95 I hadnt known what happened to make the band 3 from 2, I was way into grunge by then. And recently went back through their cat, from 95 on. I was sad to say, didnt like it as much, something was missing. Now I know someone, was missing. 80s kid here.
A musical genius and a gentleman. We all owe a huuuge lot to this man! He contributed so much in shaping so many people's lives. I personally can't think of my life and myself without DM and hence without Alan.
Alan left DM because his talents, obvious to all, weren’t appreciated and as stated felt that “the end didn’t justify the means” . The fact that 28 years on, he’s still missed, is testament to that.
It's always nice to see another side of people and what their interests are. From what I've read, the reason he left the band was that he put a LOT of extra time and work in the studio, fine-tuning the sounds and felt underappreciated. He is SO talented and it is a shame that they couldn't have stayed together. I Love DM! 💗
So professional and talented they’ve never been the same without him. They were brought to stardom and fame thanks to his contributions. I hope he’s happy.
Too late for me to learn of this auction in 2022... 🙂 I have a huge respect for Alan. It was actually him who won me for Depeche Mode on the hot summer day in 1984, when I first heard The Landscape is Changing. I was riding my new bike and his track was running through my head for that day and days after. And I wanted not to forget it and keep it replaying in my head. Thank you Alan for creating soundtrack to the formative years of my life!
I just hope he's all good. I loved this guy since I was 13, I cried listening Somebody and him playing the piano. Unfortunately we can't do anything about that. He made his own decision and I'm just hoping he is happy. He deserves to be happy ❤
Before joining Depeche Mode, Alan was a session musician and studio/production assistant who was also in one band after another. His talent would always give him opportunities, but most likely he would have ended up like many other highly talented session musicians: helping many successful bands make their records, or in some cases even perform live (like Peter Gordeno), but never becoming a member of one (Peter isn't actually a member of DM, of course), which takes more than talent, it takes things like "charisma" (which sometimes means acting wild on stage while having no talent, like Sid Vicious) and/or plain, dumb luck (e.g. Fletch, sorry, RIP our beloved Clapper). Alan might well have become a producer eventually, which he pretty much was as a member of Depeche Mode, anyway.
@@viliamvanko4257 That's really hard to guess at, obviously. The band would have been significantly diminished without Alan from _Construction Time Again_ onward, like they were after he had left. But Martin's songs were stronger from the 1980s through the mid-1990s than later, and Gareth Jones was the guy who got them started on samplers and additive synthesis, including the use of Daniel Miller's Synclavier, so they would still have been quite innovative. I think, and this is just a wild-assed, biased guess, that Depeche Mode would still have been successful, with Martin's and Dave's talents and the support of Miller and Mute Records, but not as successful as they were in real life with Alan, especially in the US. Sometimes bands just need good luck and timing, but with Depeche Mode, so many fans are really into the sound and music, which set them apart from everyone else, and Alan noticeably enhanced what Martin composed. I really don't think that Depeche Mode would have failed, like they didn't after Vince left. Vince would also find great success of his own, not just because of his own considerable talents, but because he found the right people to complement what he had to offer. Depeche Mode still had Martin and Dave, and that alone gave them huge potential, but without Alan, they would have been missing a piece of their puzzle, so it's hard to imagine that they would have been quite as successful without him, and certainly not as good, in my opinion.
Dear Alan, I grew up listen to your music. Please come back to DM! We love you and miss you so much! You're a wonderful musician and the band it's not the same without you! From Argentina wiht LOVE and DEVOTION!
+Laksmi Devi Maybe he doesn't want to return to DM. And maybe the band don't want him back too. You know, they've found a new way of working, with Dave writing songs and sharing duties with Martin etc. So...
Gahan101 Yes, for sure you re right. I can understand, as an artist, that sometimes you need to do different things and work with different people. I was just exoresing my deep feelings for him and all his wonderful music with DM ! .
+gahan101 I don't think he'd ever rejoin the band as a member, but I wouldn't entirely rule out a major collaboration sometime in the future. Dave has stated very earnestly on more than one occasion that he misses Alan's contributions, and the other guys showed no signs of disapproval. The passage of time and their age have a way of changing perspectives, and Alan has already appeared on stage with DM for old time's sake (one song, "Somebody") as well as remixed for them, all of which turned out great. Perhaps the band will eventually consider hiring Alan to produce an album for them, for example. As for distributing the workload, Martin has had to do more work than before, but that's OK because when Alan was around Martin had reportedly done only a minimal amount of work after the songs were written; Martin has grown quite adept at using synths, as well. As for Dave writing songs now, that is a separate matter, I believe, and beyond the monetary aspects, he wanted to sing for himself, too, under the DM banner--it has nothing to do with Alan leaving, especially as he hadn't written a DM song for many years at the time anyway. And as for his presence on stage, there are Peter (keyboards) and Christian (drums), of course, albeit they are not official members of DM.
I wouldn't mind Alan producing DM someday. But i think Martin have quite some pride(not in a bad way)and would hardly want him back with them cos maybe he wouldn't want people to think he admits some kind of "weakness" in their music since Alan left and thus, taking him back to gain something they used to have, musically. But these are just speculations here that can't be taken as absolute thruths, since we don't know shit ;)
gahan101 Exactly, we don't and can't know for a fact what they're really thinking, although like I said they have gotten together a couple of times now, and additionally Alan indicated in a subsequent interview that it felt as though he had never left, and that they'll probably get together again for something. Take that as you will, but some people mellow out with age, and these guys don't have as much to prove anymore, which can help overcome their sense of pride. I figure that Alan will never rejoin, due to the reason you've given as well as Alan's own sense of pride, but they have grown closer of late so maybe something will come of that. Heck, Martin recently collaborated with Vince Clarke of all people on a little techno side project (VCMG). I never would have guessed that would happen. And Martin actually collaborating with anyone in writing songs (albeit only instrumental in this case)? I never thought I'd see that, either.
I sometimes find it difficult to watch these kinds of videos because they make me sad thinking about how Alan left the band, in my mind still the only Depeche Mode that exists is the one with Alan in it. But it struck me how much he must've cared and still cares about his time in the band to have meticulously kept all of these things. I think maybe some people got the impression because of his at times aloof or cool manner, and the fact that he left Depeche, that he thought he was better than the band or something. I think the other members took his contributions and efforts for granted, if anything he probably cared too much while the others were happy to go off on holiday or a bar while songs were being mixed and such.
First, I want to make clear that I love DM, is the soundtrack of my life, I hear since I was thirteen years old, now I have 41. Regarding Alan Wilder, I think it was always the person possessing the strongest musical training of four members of the best creative time of DM. Personally, I consider him responsible for the sonic richness, innovation and search for new textures and horizons, which then would be reflected in subsequent albums. It was a great loss his departure from the band. Undoubtedly, Depeche Mode went on, and wonderful way, but... with Alan on board was marked a noticeable difference.
Hello Alan, Cuban guy here living in the States. Thank you for all the great music Depeche Mode created, Ive been a fan for decades. England is such an amazing country, so much talent, is really insane, Beattles, Stones, The Cure, Depeche Mode and hundreds of other bands, crazy stuff for a small country. Congratulations for all your talent, well deserved. Adios.
I was in the UK (Windsor) in September of 2011 and just missed the live auction by a week! Alan's impact on DM is forever. He knew how to interpret Martin's songs better than anyone. DM have lost their "groove" a bit without him.
You were so close, I missed that auction by years now :( When I've looked at the MfTM T-shirts signed by AW I start shaking and thinking.. WTF where is my Time Machine!
Right, and more than a bit, in my opinion. Alan's skill set and musical sensibilities were a particularly good match for Martin's songs. Martin may be a genius songwriter and composer, but musically he's all about melodies and to some extent making interesting sounds on synths--on his own, and even with help from skilled producers, his music is very, very basic. Even Vince's early songs on their first album are deceptively simple, and have a kind of rhythm, "groove", tension, and harmony that Martin's have always lacked (Vince got even better at this, too, during the early 1990s with Erasure, while Martin never has)--he needs someone like Alan (and ideally Alan) to make the most of his songs, and of course what Alan did made DM what they were musically, and definitively so. They still haven't found anyone on nearly this level to help them. Their records keep selling and people keep coming to their concerts, but musically they have been greatly diminished since Alan's departure.
Feliz Cumpleaños Alan Wilder, gracias por regalarnos tanto sonido bueno a tus fans y a Depeche Mode también............................. saludos de Perú..
Probably but, from this gesture, he made a lot of fans happy. There is so much you can keep before you become a hoarder. All this material isn't worth a penny IF, it takes space and collect dust. I think it is a priceless experience if, the previous proprietor hands you, your purchase.....And is named, Alan Wilder.
@@bucksatanII Update: sadly, Alan did have to sell his house to settle his divorce, after all. It sold for a little over $5 million, so we're looking at about $5.5 million for the house and this auction, combined. I don't know what other investments he might have had, or how much cash, but it's starting to look like his net worth is in the single digits of millions, and not necessarily on the high side of that. That's getting pretty close to what a working stiff can earn and accumulate over his career--a professional working stiff like, say, an engineer, but still just a working stiff, not a rock star.
Alan one of the greatest man in electronic music. May be the most one. He is not the best composer either. But he's done much more. He invented a new way of creating music. Before Alan synthesizers were just one of the musical instruments. But Alan was the first one, who had not only been inventing new sounds, but made them integral part of music.
Маленькое уточнение: классический депешевский саунд (при Алане) в основном базировался на сэмплерах, а не на синтах (этим они и отличались от десятков коллег по синтпоп-цеху). С остальными утверждениями согласен.
I was there also! I saw Depeche Mode twice on that tour, first in San Diego then at the Rose Bowl with my wife to be, and yes that was our greatest date. It was the best show ever, and also the biggest food fight I was ever witness to. I recently purchase an EMax sampler and have Alan’s samples. It’s great fun, the Emax still sounds awesome after all this time...
@@ReneAlexisPenalozaMunoz Alan Wilder is a genius, no doubt about that. The way in which he created unique sounds, the arrangements, the mixing, editing, sampling, and his unique style of playing the piano and synthesizers confirms this
Can't see this happening. Wish somehow Alan was back as one of the key elements of DM. It is sad still that he is separated from one of the best bands ever. Yep, crap,,, Alan was more as DM than vince, made DM stand out. Love Vince. He cracked on brilliantly creating new other bands, music etc. Alan is very key to DM. It is like buying your favourite curry knowing it's lacking certain ingredience that made it such an awesome dish. Alan = missing jigsaw :/ x
Two Minute Warning and If You Want are two of my favourite LIVE songs by the mighty Mode! BOTH written by Alan. Never really got Depeche after he left? 🕶
Does anyone know what "Other" disks might be available from Alan's collection? I learned how to play piano/keyboards at 14 on by playing along to every DM album with a budget Yamaha PSS-460 synth. Would love to get access to the Black Celebration tour disks/sounds and/or back tracks to play along again. BC was the first time I saw DM live at 15 years old at Irvine Meadows in CA,USA, then I was also at 101. The MFTM/SOFAD sounds are the holy grail, but my inner child would love those 86 and older sounds they played live not on the auction disks. Thank you if someone in the know is reading this message and can respond.
Their second album (from the beginning of course) was very inspirational, with good spots and they produced it mostly as a trio then as a quartet so it all depends, percentages are very refferential.
no he was there for the making of the second album he wasn't just a sessions guy Vince announced he was leaving before the first album was even done. I'm actually very glad this happened or else Dave gahan would be singing oh l'amour
Nice house!! It doesn't matter really the exact reason why Alan let go of this stuff. He says near the start he still has quite a collection left for himself, so it would make sense to let some things go, especially while the band itself is still popular. I was lucky to see Mode in 1998 but unfortunately it was after Alan left. It was a more intimate and small tour probably because Dave was still in recovery mode but I really wished I had seen them with Alan.
I don't think this was about money. He still gets his share from every thing they did from 1983 to 1993. They had a 25‰ agreement. He's not getting money from current live performances but he has production credits that entitles him to get those old earnings.
I think Allan want to forget all the memories they had because his credits and acknowledgement were not that respected. He is the most handsome not mentioning lol
Entirely agree, and he still is handsome and cool, especially wearing those shades, and getting up off the ground, in Recoil video, and walking away. Always so cool. 💘💥
To me ULTRA was the latest bit of the real Depeche Mode top class sound. Like a little brother from SOFAD. Indeed it has a lot of sounds, samples, rhythms etc that are taken almost directly from the Alan musical input. He was the only cappable to do something magical from any of the Martin Gore demos. Without him (Alan) they just sound like some sort of tribute bizarre lazy cover band from theyself. Or like i say "The Dave Gahan Gang"
Ultra as only successful because it had Alan Wilder's influence on it. But slowly it waned and the ending of the album was an indication of what has followed since. Mediocre doesn't fully describe it.
Glórias a Deus em nome de Jesus Que Deus abençoe e proteja voces em nome de Jesus todos os musicos da terra todos aqueles que trazem emoção e alegria pras nossas vidas desde nossa infancia e juventude até hoje Um abraço a todos
It's rare to see a band member who is really a fan of his own band. His collection shows how much he loves Depeche Mode.
It's hard to be in a band if you're not a fan of it! Lots of band members keep such collections. Just that they don't ever sell it.

Genio !!!!!! Depeche mode nunca volvió hacer lo mismo sin ti!!
A true musical genius.
6:13 WIlder brings the song alive. The dude who replaced him at DM shows just plays notes.
So ein Supertalent , sehr sympathisch , Er wird für immer ein Teil von Depeche Mode sein ,Danke Alan ! für alles ❤❤❤❤🙏
Alan Wilder the music genius who was the sound creator of Depeche Mode.
Alan Wilder is the greatest musician!
Who would think now Alan is selling his fantastic house? 🥺🥺🥺 That’s a bit sad, but I hope he’s doing fine, he seems to be a very lovely man! ❤️
Feliz Cumpleaños Alan Wilder, gracias por regalarnos tanto sonido bueno a tus fans y a Depeche Mode también............................. saludos de Perú..
Still miss you Alan. Wish you had never left DM...
Strange or not but in an interview in 1987 he said " I don`t see myself at DM in the next 10 years ! "
@@leopardtrek1150 really?
Alan gave so much to a great band, I hope he isn't secretly broke.
It was so close...
I think he is not fine. I can see sadness and nostalgy in his eyes.
It says his net worth is $40 million, so I think he's doing well
Probably but, from this gesture, he made a lot of fans happy.
Lives just down the road from me, top musician
Здравствуйте! Вы правда живёте рядом с ним?
Alan come back..... DM is not the same without you! PLEASE !!!!
4 years later and your comment still holds!!!! Depeche Mode NEEDS Alan!!!
He ll never come back
Even if he did come back today, the magic is gone 🖤
Please come back.
yes!!! 2020. come back!!!
Gracias por compartir un poquito de tu espacio y todo lo que tienes de hermosos recuerdos!!! Mi amor por siempre ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍😍😍😍💋💋💋
Ahem Ahem Kraftwerk...
Гений sounda!!!!!если бы не Алан,не известно как звучал бы ДМ вообще!!!!!
6:13 David Bowie - Life on Mars
Aż mi się łza zakręciła w oku, jak przypomnę sobie czasy DM z Alanem i że go nie ma w zespole.
Sensacional Alan Wilder é um gênio toca d + parabéns pelo histórico de de sua carreira
Lovely tone to that piano. RIP Fletch😢😢
I hope that whatever is happening in Alan's life now, he knows he is so loved by so many. Love you Alan x
Great to see him again. Really need these guys back together, at least one last time. The DM sound is still missing as Alan is missing.
Damn I just find him so incredibly attractive
I was at the Rose Bowl....epic
you are a lucky one!!!

It was my birthday
Alan wilder is a genius
No he isn't
He was THE BRAIN in DM
No, Einstein was a genius, Wilder is a good musician.
@@ReneAlexisPenalozaMunoz Alan Wilder is a genius, no doubt about that. The way in which he created unique sounds, the arrangements, the mixing, editing, sampling, and his unique style of playing the piano and synthesizers confirms this
At 0:16 .... i still have this T-Shirt, bought in Essen (Grugahalle) November 1984 !
Andy Fletcher always played down Alan's contribution
Can't see this happening. Wish somehow Alan was back as one of the key elements of DM. It is sad still that he is separated from one of the best bands ever. Yep, crap,,, Alan was more as DM than vince, made DM stand out. Love Vince. He cracked on brilliantly creating new other bands, music etc. Alan is very key to DM. It is like buying your favourite curry knowing it's lacking certain ingredience that made it such an awesome dish. Alan = missing jigsaw :/ x
Guau!!! Gracias por compartir estos hermosos momentos con depeche y por permitirnos entrar en tu espacio lo mas preciado tu casa te Amo Alan💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓
I fully on love Wilder just busted out Bowie on the Piano
Two Minute Warning and If You Want are two of my favourite LIVE songs by the mighty Mode! BOTH written by Alan. Never really got Depeche after he left? 🕶
With respect and love from Russia's fans! Thank you!!!
Alan is so awesome, blessings to you forever.
That piano playing was so nice.
Gracias por tocar y por esa enorme colección que vale oro y esta en tu corazón y en el mío 💓💓💓💓❤️😍😍😍😍💋💋💋
Kiss and make up! 4 of you are the greatest band of all time together!
Depeche Mode was only 75% after Alan left.. he was fucking important to the band
((::))
+MrHollabk after Alan left DM were 40% ( to be kind)
Their second album (from the beginning of course) was very inspirational, with good spots and they produced it mostly as a trio then as a quartet so it all depends, percentages are very refferential.
He did some session music for that album, didn't didn't become an official member until later.
no he was there for the making of the second album he wasn't just a sessions guy Vince announced he was leaving before the first album was even done. I'm actually very glad this happened or else Dave gahan would be singing oh l'amour
I miss you so much man !!!!!!!!
I love seeing Alan happy as he plays ❤
A real! Talent.
You are absolutely right. ((::))
He produced remixed and rearranged DM work, that became the most successful. A vital member of DM and a very articulate fella
Always liked Alan..
And the most handsome of all time!! 😊
We love you, Alan!!!! By all Russia!!!
((::))
Неистово плюсую!
Присоединяюсь! So do I!
MGTOW has a cat profile picture and.....so am I...both....MGTOW and cats.
es una pena qué ya no esten los 4 integrantes! de todos modos al escuchar a Alan Wilder. lo recordamos como un DEPECHE MODE!!😘
Vielen Dank fürs Zeigen und Einblick in Dein Haus!! ❤️💜🌹👍👍🍸!! 🥂
He should of made a museum its really sad he got rid of all the DM collections if he needed the money its still sad
I doubt it.
I don't think this was about money. He still gets his share from every thing they did from 1983 to 1993. They had a 25‰ agreement. He's not getting money from current live performances but he has production credits that entitles him to get those old earnings.
Alan the great genious of DM. Best regards from Chile south América.
I'm waiting for a box set from Alan Wilder featuring remixes that he will do in the near future 🤞
I think Allan want to forget all the memories they had because his credits and acknowledgement were not that respected. He is the most handsome not mentioning lol
6:16 I cried~
Me too
Im moving into the attic after all the stuff is moved out Alan is making me a suite up there :D
I’m crying in 2017.
Somebody ?
O,Alan you are the first Man that i have love si mutch (Bevore i meet my Husband) . Good old Time ! Wish the best !! Sandra aus Germany
What a talented interesting man i never felt quite the same about DM after he left.
He was so handsome and cool when he was in the band
Don't talk shit
Entirely agree, and he still is handsome and cool, especially wearing those shades, and getting up off the ground, in Recoil video, and walking away. Always so cool. 💘💥
A talent that entered the history of electronic music !!!! Very hug´s fou you #AlanWilder
MAN, YOUR HOME IS BEAUTIFUL AND YOUR COLLECTION IS INCREDIBLE. I'D SURE LIKE TO OWN SOME PIECES! THANK YOU FOR THE TOUR!
Huge fan of DM here, and Alan in particular. Thanks for all your talent and excellent work.
Love this man .the man behind the music. Of that band
The Maestro himself and Genius Mr.Wilder
8:50 if I ever wanna drum again 🤔 you mean, with whom???
BRILLIANT MY BOY!!!!
Actually this is a very sad video..😪
You should create the DM museum!
Glórias a Deus em nome de Jesus

Hi Alan happy birthday
.. you are very very good.Carlomagno Costa Rica...
With him the Martin Demos went to the Stratosphere... A Genius Musician!
Come on, his house is way much bigger than all of our houses together....
No Alan, not the Steinway!:-(
Why not ? He's not using it anymore.
The heart and soul of DM. What a talent.
Talentazo Alan sigue asi...!!!
Mr. Wilder is not broke. He needs some fresh air around him from now on.
