    It’s really touching seeing the portrait of the American & Soviet soldiers meeting at the Elbe for the 50th anniversary. This whole parade is far more subdued but pales in comparison to the one in 1990.

      And a bit depressing too for me. A mighty superpower became a vassal of its very adversary. Russia kept on saying yes to everything the west asked for but in the end the only thing they got in return was NATO on their borders.

    I know the anthem during the 1990s was unpopular but I think its actually a great anthem. No where near as famous or as resounding as the Soviet and current Russian Federation anthem but it certainly was the right choice for an anthem in the immediate years after the fall. It was composed by a Russian and had no real ties to either the Soviet or Imperial eras. However the lack of words and the general association with the turbulent 1990s seems to have put Mikhail Glinka's song in the coffin. There are some pretty great performances of the song too especially during the Soviet period.

    • @P7777-u7r
      @P7777-u7r 6 років тому +5

      How come the 90s were so crap for some places where their systems collapsed but golden times for the US?
      While communism fell in the USSR (well ultimately for the better not a very good system) Social Credit fell here a few months before the USSR officially dissolved leading to a decade of corruption too not as bad as russias but pretty bad

    • @shrillbert
      @shrillbert 4 роки тому +7

      @@P7777-u7r It wasn't just the collapse of communism itself. The other problem that many forget is that half of the country's population had suddenly been effectively amputated(Russia's population was only about 50% of the entire USSR at collapse), and Russia wasn't quite sure how to fund routine functions for a while.

      @Muhammad Azril Naufal Makmur enough food, housing, and clothing for everyone? Emang? Banyak juga kok yg miskin. Alasan jaman Soeharto dianggap enak sih karena jaman dulu kebutuhan hidup yang perlu dipenuhin sedikit (ngak murah, karena gaji jaman dulu juga kecil), populasi Indonesia tidak sebanyak sekarang, yang diberitakan cuman yang baik-baik doang, serta rakyat kurang teredukasi dan kurang melek korupsi (mudah dibodohin). Jadi gampang untuk melakukan tindakan KKN tanpa menarik perhatian rakyat.
      Yang bisa dibilang enak di jaman Soeharto tuh stabilitasnya (untuk di Jawa). Meskipun ada konflik di Timor, Papua, dan Aceh. Tapi, ya mungkin itu efek dari penyiaran berita yg baik doang sih. Karena jaman dulu the flow of information is relatively slow and controlled compared to today.

      But doesn’t compare to any Soviet parade. Especially October revolution parade, where quality of the musicians in band was far better, and the people marched with vigor and joy.
      Also the Parade of Athletes, especially during Stalin time you see how enthusiastic the marchers are, they show pride in their strength. Russia here was a broken nation and we will never have such a strong spirit again unless we revolt against capitalism
