- From Essex Teenager To Renaissance Man, first broadcast in November 1994.
The story of Vivian's early years, featuring appearances by mum and various friends interspersed among his tour round his native Southend and specially recorded songs.
My introduction to Viv was on Tubular Bells. He fitted into my secret, private inner world perfectly. He was clever and hilarious and I was 12. Almost 50 years later nothing has changed. He is still that secret, inner place I retreat to when the world around me has gone mad, and all hope seems lost..because basically it has and it is and retreating into lunacy is the most effective way of staying sane.
Dear Vic, where have the eccentrics gone, we will never see the like of him again. All we have is ‘celebrity’ stalking the streets and attaching itself to every bimbo and halfwit it can find. 😎 He was a genius.😢
Essex, its Riviera and Canvey Island has spawned all of my favourite musical eccentrics, wordsmiths and geniuses: Innes, Stanshall, Dury, Doctor Feelgood, Eddy and the Hotrods, Nine Below Zero and a few more, a great place for a mispent youth! 🎡🎢⛱🍻
RIP Wilko Johnson.
What a wonderful gem. Thank you so much dear boy.
Thank you UA-cam for showing me this treasure. You made my day. Vivian forever. Thank you.
As an Irish person, I absolutely adore Vivian, and British eccentricity in general. It has enriched and inspired both of our cultures. Whatever about our fractious past, my fondness for the best of British culture, in all its diverse guises, will endure. I hope we continue to ‘pootle’ along together, happily. Thanks for this fabulous upload.
I'm a Scouser and there really isn't a whole lot of English in me DNA wise. But I'm defo an Englishman cos that's where I live. I know Irish, Welsh, and Scottish is in there but my surname is Scandinavian. I was interested to discover here that Viv was a Catholic. Me too. His musings on the communion shenanigans made me smile.
But the communion stuff might have been in the last Viv video I watched rather than this one. I've lost track now...
Never heard this before, Viv was wonderful. Thanks.
So good if not a bit sad loved Viv and his music art most of my life
His voice. Goodness its a thing of silk and satin, beer and bananas, vitriol and vodka.
Thanks so, so much: been waiting years to hear this.
+Einstein Inspace you're welcome. Happy you enjoyed it.
Love this, thanks for popping this clip up!
"Tinged with a rosy tristesse." Quite.
A gem!
thank you for posting... Vic was one of England's finest.
where on earth did you find this..
18:10 "He loved you even though you never thought he did". This is very poignant.
google sir henry at rawlinson end, absurdity at its finest.
It's a sad indictment of our era and our 'culture' that not only is Vivian Stanshall's genius now ignored and near-forgotten, but that at least half of the youtube results on a search of his name concern themselves only with a ton of witless 'Paul Is Dead' / 'Billy Shears' conspiracy tripe.
Because he isn't a real person and people are waking up to it
Anyone who cannot see that the Viv with the Bonzo Dog Band in the 60s isn't the same Person as the Viv in the 80s is completely blind
Incredible insight.
The circumference of Viv's skull was the Chalk Farm equivalent of Max Miller.
saaafend ha ha he's great
If only he'd realised he didn't exist....
Please elaborate
First broadcast about five months before his tragic death in an apartment fire.
*His mvrder because he(Victor) didn't want to give up his role of Vivian Stanshall
Billy shears
Not yer average geezer
Really? Holding a head?
Anthony is that his birth name?
Victor Anthony Stanshall.
Viv was actually his dad’s birth name, but he changed it to Victor and Viv changed his own name in the other direction.
Vivian Stanshall wasn't a real person but a character created by William Campbell(or possibly Douglas-Hamilton, can't know 100%)
He named the character Viv because of his self-identification with Vivaldi
billy shears. aka Paul McCartney
William Shepherd-Billy Shears is the pseudonym sung at the start of "Sgt Pepper" the voice of "Billy Pepper and the Pepperpots" was the same man which is where the title "Sergeant Pepper" comes from.
This is
Bullshit
Eejit!
Craziest thing is that so few people knew until around the release of The Memoirs of Billy Shears on 9/9/09.
RANDY JUDAH TORREZ ❤️ <
Looks like *BJPM* but his voice does NOT sound like *BJPM* go figure ? 🤔
