I absolutely loved watching BBC TV as a young American girl watching Monty Python, Tomorrow People, Dr Who, Mr Bean, Bonzo Dog Band, listening to much fabulous music from many genres & decades...The Beatles, The Rutles, The Kinks, The Incredible String Band, Fairport Convention with Sandy Denny, Richard Thompson, ETC All throughout my life I've been Blessed to have heard the root music of the UK\USA & roots comedy of UK\USA... I'm from Dallas, TX. We got Monty Python on KERA in 1974, a full year before it was broadcasted in LA or NYC. I've loved English comedy and music my whole life, especially The Beatles and The Rutles, but it took the Paul is dead "conspiracy" for me to find Vivian Stanshall. "Who is this? I was Willy Campbell". Fecking genius!
Legs Larry Smith you lazy sod...get on that drum kit!!! Love you all! Poor Gerry Bron believing they could be huge like a regular pop group...Christ! Ain't 'appening mate lol
Interesting anecdote from Stephen fry about discovering the Bonzos via "Tadpoles" aged 13. unfortunately it conflicts with his claim in the "Canyons of your mind" documentary that he discovered them via buying the "I'm the urban spaceman" single aged 11. Make yer mind up Stephen!
I found an almost pristine copy of their album Tadpoles in a Portland, OR record store a few months back. Still had the cut-out eyeholes on the front and the liner insert which, when you pull it, sees all these 'thoughts' going through the heads of the three members on the front, including of course Innes and Stanshall. Wasn't at all expensive either. Don't think they knew what they had.
Credited here as (10:08) just Sam "Spoons" actual, his actual name is Martin Ash - nickname "Sam Spoons". Which was fitting since he played the spoons and rythm pole (amongst many other things/instruments).
They were the house band in a kids show called Do Not Adjust Your Set. It was a sketch show written by and starring Eric Idle, Michael Palin and Terry Jones along with David Jason and Denise Coffey.
Viv Stanshall spent a little time in and out of the nut house later in life. His father had really screwed him up, and he didn't get the help he should have gotten.
The albums in order of release were 'Gorilla', 'The Doughnut in Granny's Greenhouse'*, 'Tadpoles', and 'Keynsham'. * This is actually a rare euphemism for a toilet. Tiz true - and we must revive it in honour of the Bonzos. I have and continue to do so. The Grandchildren think it's hilarious.
This type of music stands the test of time. I have been listening to it for 55 years.

Memory is an ephemeral thing for us all.

Oh and thanks for the upload.
Dadaism is the antidote to modernity.

I can't find part 2.
The world needs more Bonzo Dog Band music!
Viv Stanshall died over 20 years ago and Neil Innes died two weeks ago. So that's not going to happen...
@@anonUKVivian Stanshall was never a real person
@@anonUKThe original Stanshall is alive and well
His replacement was murdered after he didn't want to retire the character
First gig I ever went to was Roger Ruskin Spear's Giant Kinetic Wardrobe!
total class
I love Neil Innes- he;s silly and wonderful and such a positive influence!
The Bonzos led me to the Mothers. Thanks Viv.
What's there to live for? Who needs the peace corp?
I wonder why the Bonzos didn't get together with the Rutles, and form a band? The only connection was Neil Innes, I think.
We had a local "art" band in Cleveland kinda like this. Redness. Awesome fun @ live events.
I have loved many bands but I think this one influenced me more than any other. The humor.
they were the very BEAST!!
Where is part 2??
after the goons.
Where's Part 2 damnit!
Splendid! Cheers.
flat
I heard they had a Kiddie TV show in England. AND one of the guys was in a nuthouse at some time. I have 3 of their albums.
Only the one in the loony bin?

My 1960's heroes!
They sound like a jumble sale. Did I miss something? Who did Urban Spaceman?
They did. They had speed.
