Should look at the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 8900 on black leather strap - wonderful watch and slightly more different than the Rolex dive watches and Seamaster 300
Ollie I tried one on a few years ago and I loved what Omega is doing with their leather straps. They have them with a sturdy rubber backing to ensure the strap is more long lasting.
George Yang completely agree, I believe mine has a crocodile leather outing supported on the rubber strap. Really comfy and no issues when wearing in water. Only slight issue is that the watch wears larger on the rubber strap than on the metal bracelet
If I had a huge load of money to spend on many watches, there would be more Omegas than Rolexes in my collection. Not saying they are better (or worse), it's just my preferences.
I tend to agree. I have a Rolex sub and there's only a GMT and yachtmaster II on my list. But with Omega there's the Planet Ocean varients and metal choices, Speedmaster, Aqua Terra and it's various combinations. It's very hard to narrow down to just one model.
@@sidesauce a very good video thank you for sharing. The bracelet is more dressy and the case is smaller. The white Yahtmaster that was shown in the beginning of the video is more along the lines of what they should have stuck with IMO. But that is my opinion. I wont be able to afford either anyway :/. Cheers Brother!
@@sidesauce had they removed that atrocious cyclops I would have agreed with you 100%. It's like they are too scared of deviating too much from what has worked for them in the past. Yacht master cases and lugs are betrer proportioned and more fitting for the oyster bracelet over that of Subs & GMT Masters. 1 of 3 Rolex watches that ever grabbed my attention.
I love my Omegas. I own a steel 42mm Planet Ocean, and a 1975 Constellation MegaQuartz, and as far as I'm concerned, they're both technical streets ahead of Rolex. Personally, I'd rather the non-watch enthusiast kept going for Rolex and keeping their prices artificially high, so real watch enthusiasts can continue to benefit from Omega's fantastic offerings.
The public's perspective of the Yacht-Master shifted because it was the only model not being ran up in price by speculators. Now, the only Rolex not in a bubble is the black dial Explorer II. Rolex reminds me of internet stocks in 2000, give it time and pawn shops will be full of affordable Rolex's.
Same thing happened to just about every other "popular" Rolex model. Daytonas were the first to go, even though they were never "easy" to get in the 21st century, it became impossible without a significant purchase history. When people couldn't get Daytonas, the GMT Masters and Hulks went. Then the plain jane Sub. Then the Explorer I. The Polar Explorer II, Datejust 41 Blue dial. Hell, now even a white dial OP39 is on a short waitlist in some places. Insane.
I have the Omega Sea Masters dive watch coaxial movement with the blue face instead of the black face. I bought it about three years ago. Keeps very good time within a few seconds per day. Terrific watch. I would not spend such huge money as like for the Rolex. I have other Omega watches going back over 40 years of ownership. When I was flying air charters, in 1974 I bought an Omega Speedmaster MarkII sapphire glass version with the 861A movement. Terrific watch. I inherited an Omega Duville men's dress watch from the 1960's. I get them cleaned and adjusted by an Omega authorized service place about every five years or so. If I was to buy something like the Rolex I would be looking at the Tudor dive watch. Very attractive look, much more reasonable price, very functional, and is of good quality. I like the dive watches because they are easy to read, and very practical. I use the rotating bezel for timing. The deepest in water I will ever go in my lifetime would be in the shower or the bathtub! HA!
Yes, yes it is. I’d argue they were equal anyway - not factoring in price - so when you can buy 4 Seamasters for the price of one Rolex, the difference is massive. Massive.
Ashish Patel they’re not equal because the both tell the time. If you think that, then you have no interest in buying a watch. This is why they’re equal; The finishing is of a similar standard. The Omega has the better 8806 co-axial movement with a sapphire case back. Both use ceramics. The Omega has the more impressive dial. The detailing is slightly better on the Rolex. Rolex is the better brand*. *Though not from a horological perspective - Omega is by far the more important brand - but from a status perspective. Conclusion: The value of the precious metals, the status of Rolex as a brand and the experience of owning something as aesthetically pleasing as the Yachtmaster doesn’t add up to £17,000. Not when you can get the equally as impressive, equally pleasing Omega.
I recently had the opportunity to buy either a Sub, or the 300m, and I chose the Seamaster 300m. I got the great white one, and only because I wanted it more...regardless of the price. It's just a better watch for me.
I have always preferred Omega to Rolex. I love the styling of Omega watches. Just like you said with the Yacht Master, it looks more pedestrian that the Omega, and this is my opinion generally when comparing the two brands.
IMO, Omega surpassed Rolex years ago. Rolex is the "same ole thing" over and over again. Omega has surpassed Rolex in looks and quality of craftsmanship...
I just bought the Seamaster 50th aniversary of bond's "on her majesty’s secret service" and I'm loving it. It is way more wearable than my rolex submarinner and this limited edition comes with both the rubber and the stainless stele strap, and so much detail!! I also think it might be Omega's time to shine.
For me the specific watch model is more important than just the brand. It is great to wear a Rolex one day and an Omega the next. If you love watches, you love both brands and many more.
Giles Lloyd I only have a couple of watches, but when I put on and take off my GS GMT, which has a sapphire caseback, I enjoy taking a look at the movement. Sometimes I use my jeweler’s loupe to take a closer look. Sometimes I give the rotor a few spins by hand. If I had usd$10k to burn I’d get a Glasshütte PanoMaticInverse.
I really like that Seamaster and that it has no date. I imagine it's very light on the wrist as well. The one reservation I have is there is no option for a bracelet. It's either rubber or nato strap. I'm sorry the latter should be a freebie in the box with the rubber or the non-existent matching bracelet. Black anodized titanium would have been fine. Better yet, take a lesson from the ceramic Octofinissimo from Bulgari and make a ceramic link bracelet. I know those would have been pricey options, but the option should have been there. It doesn't help that the lug width is 21mm. Had it been 22, there'd have been a number of good options.
I like what Omega have done with this Seamaster, the dial and hands are a photo negative (remember 35mm film) of the standard Seamaster. The gloss waves pop on the matt background along with the brushed hands.
The yacht master is so similar to the submariner and seadweller I really don't understand its position in the lineup. What is unique about it compared to the other two?
@IIt's actually a huge misconception that rich people will buy themselves different and extremely expensive stuff just because they can and just to impress others. Yes, the average attention craving celebrity will do that but most of them won't.
@@dstfno Rich people's spending habits aside, historically, the Yacht Master actually is somewhat of a turning point in Rolex's history, where they "announced" themselves as a luxury-first brand, rather than a full on tool watch
BTW just watch one of your videos back from 2017 and man the sound quality and your story telling game got so much better. Such a pleasure to listen to you.
I love the fact that Omega is way more low-key than Rolex is to wear on a night out shooting pool. I would never wear a Rolex out drinking but with an Omega the bums don't even notice.
i think Omega can hit a home run if they do something at 40mm/41mm case size. They can totally knock Rolex out of business if they start focusing on those dial sizes as well. For me 43mm works but I know many folks who like the smaller 40mm rolex sizes and that market is actually pretty big.
Laughable. They could make anything in any size and it won’t matter one bit. You’ll still be rocking an Omega and wishing it was a Rolex. Do you actually think they even think about Omega?? Bro they aren’t competing…at all. It’s seriously a different class…just gotta accept it.
The only thing Omega could improve in their new line up with rubber straps would be to give the option of having a clasp rather then buckle. Maybe its me, but a buckle makes this watch look less premium and having clasp will also increase user experience...
Yeah that would like nice on the rubber straps. Only thing with this one is the buckle is in keeping with the case (all ceramic). Dont think you could do it with a clasp but either material would defo look 👌
Agreed, I tried this watch on yesterday at an Omega boutique and found the rubber buckle annoying as the first keeper is very rigid. I asked them to find me a deployant and 21mm rubber strap from another model that would suit this watch, and if they could, I would buy it.
The all black bezel of the Yacht master looks nice and unique. Everything else goes to Omega. The dial, the hands, case size, case back and without a doubt the movement.
jimmyjay122 the ceramic dial and anti-reflective coating on the glass of the Omega definitely leave something to be desired on all Rolex sport watches. On the other hand, a sapphire case back doesn’t matter that much to real watch enthusiasts who use their piece more than look at it.
Russell Brown Are you serious? Watch enthusiasts that are not interested in seeing whatever is visible of the movement through a clear case back cannot really call themselves that. I cannot even begin to comprehend the contradiction in what you’re saying.
jimmyjay122 I’m not saying I wouldn’t look at the movement if my watch had a clear case back. It’s just not at all something that was high on my list of priorities when deciding which watch to purchase. I was actually really picky about the movements qualities; just not picky about being able to see it.
Something about omegas just makes me like them more.... and i dont have to go on some stupid waiting list for one of their products🤣 like how is that even smart for business??
the ONLY thing keeping me from loving the SMP is the helium escape valve's crown at 10'o clock. Come on Omega, remove it by making the escape valve hidden like Rolex does with the Sea Dweller and you ablsolutely got a winner. Another thing while we're at it, give an option for non-skeleton hands as well....
I own a Seamaster and I never noticed the presence of the HEV at all. It never bothers me. IMO, HEV is the icon unique to Seamaster and it should stay there (despite practically zero person in the world will use it)
@@Bob.martens LOL, truth be told Omega is one of my fav brand. Love their Seamaster 300, CK 2998, Railmaster and many more. It's just i really dislike the odd crown position in watches, not only in SMP, thats why I got SNZF instead of SKX.

Am I the only person who thinks the Royal Oak is an ugly watch? It looks like a fashion watch from Fossil or MVMT. Seriously, it's homely, and looks like it should be sold at Target. The Rolex is beautiful, but the Omega really shines. The display case back is so much nicer than the bland blank Rolex dinner plate case back. Even if they were comparably priced, I would prefer the Omega.
That Helium valve has to go on the Omega The size is way over for the Omega The only downsides of the Rolex is the price and the fact that white gold is notorious for been easily damaged

You ever notice how the Mac Donald’s drive through is always busier than a Burger Kings? Sure the latter is a better burger, but they flock to that big yellow M
I own the Omega and it is a superb watch. But if they did the Rolex in steel and removed the date window I would chop in the Omega for the Rolex in a heartbeat. As someone said below, the Rolex bezel is just amazing... the best on any watch I have seen.
It seems like most of the Rolex's on this channel have some sort of flaw to them when viewed close up. The seconds hand on the Yacht-Master is marred on its counter weight and the hub. Rolex quality control is terrible!
@@brucesmith6894 I'm kidding. But I see what you're talking about. It seems to move with the angle of the watch, even revealing a second 'imperfection' at one point. This makes me think it's just a reflection.
Real issue is value retention on the Omega. Ask watchfinder for a trade in value and see what the trade really think of the brand. 50% of retail if it’s mint on that reference.
Could anyone help me in the search of a Seiko watch? I’m a newbie and lost at the moment. I’ve pretty much had my eyes dead set on the SNKL41 but it seems to have been discontinued as prices are inflated and it’s hard to find. Was there ever a replacement model?
Omega, cause it has more character, better movement and black ceramic case. Put the white wave ceramic dial in this Seamaster ceramic and it will take to new levels!
I would most definitely consider the Seamaster. Perhaps Yachtmaster is better because the name doesn’t imply the mastery of the sea. Which we are likely never to do
As much as I love omega, I'm not keen on this style of watch so it's a no. I'm no fan of Rolex, to me they are worn by and large by the gobby m3 driving bloke who hangs around the bar at the golf club who knows feck all about watches and is probably the same person who also thinks Harley Davidson are good motorcycles, typically buys on price. You can't mention royal oak and Nautilus in the same company as Rolex, I'm sure the rolex is beautifully made but royal oak and Nautilus are in another level of cool. What I love about the likes of the royal oak and Nautilus is you could wear them at the golf club and no one would blink twice because the kind of person that wears them are not the attention seeking type that have X amount of money for a watch and buy a Rolex to match the X because it buys the attention...
Everything you explained how the Omega compared to the Rolex can be transferred again to Seiko V Omega using the King Samurai as an example ( sapphire crystal ceramic bezel) etc etc yes there are some differences like 300m v 200m but in general terms l think the comparison stands. Don’t get me wrong l love the Seamaster but in today’s times l went for the King Samurai for financial reasons but in my opinion that just proves the whole point.
I know this is an old quote but SOME differences? Ceramic case, Titanium bezel, ceramic dial, see through caseback, more water resistance, longer power reserve, WAY lighter (205gr vs 108gr), much better finishing, METAS certified movement vs 4r35 that is +45/-35 spd????. About the only comparison is that they're both 43.X mm divers.

I don't think it will ever get to Omega luckily. Their prices aren't high enough. They have the prestigious quality of the build and mechanism but luckily rappers and other kinds of media don't give a shit about that because they're too stupid to understand or appreciate it.
Amen
@@AndreasTunneyomega has several watches on the $100,000+
I want a Rollie, Rollie.... 😂😂😂😂
Yeah it's wonderful. If you want a ten-pound watch....
I fell in love with that Omega immediately after January 2019 release. I bought the same, it’s perfect, so light, simply beautiful.
Great choice friend!
Me too,I received mine a couple of days ago it's a stunning watch!
The Omega is awesome. That Yahtmaster looks too much like a submariner for my taste. It doesn’t seem like it’s own thing
sidesauce should’ve gone with an omega
A Community reference.
Ah, I see you are a man of great taste.
HA!
Go omega!!
Sold my Sub and brought the ceramic Omega. Love the Omega - beautifully made and easy to wear
Yes, yes it is. I’d argue they were equal anyway - not factoring in price - so when you can buy 4 Seamasters for the price of one Rolex, the difference is massive. Massive.
I guess then again I could say my phone tells the time and does a bunch of other things soooo.
Ashish Patel they’re not equal because the both tell the time. If you think that, then you have no interest in buying a watch.
This is why they’re equal;
The finishing is of a similar standard.
Conclusion:
The value of the precious metals, the status of Rolex as a brand and the experience of owning something as aesthetically pleasing as the Yachtmaster doesn’t add up to £17,000. Not when you can get the equally as impressive, equally pleasing Omega.
George O'Shea You tell ‘em George!

The Omega looks better in my opinnion
Your opinion is pretty good!
Karl Cotleanu I really dislike the Omega Seamster bracelet, however I love this one on the rubber
Pedestrian... an ostentatious wat to say ghetto' 🤣
Finally, my favourite version of the Seamaster
For me the specific watch model is more important than just the brand. It is great to wear a Rolex one day and an Omega the next. If you love watches, you love both brands and many more.
Agreed
My god the textures on the Seamaster's hands 6:32, indices 6:26 and dial 5:19 are SEXY!!
Uploaded 29 seconds ago, and some Rolex fanboy has already clicked thumbs down!

@money shifter caught me xD
I doubt I’ll get another non-sapphire caseback watch. I want to see the movement.
But it's against your wrist?! 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Agreed, it is the new standard.
@@cedshred1676 nice
I’d take that Omega all day. Rolex is slowly falling off of their marketing pedestal and the true king will prevail once again

This omega is cool.
The yacht master is so similar to the submariner and seadweller I really don't understand its position in the lineup. What is unique about it compared to the other two?
dstfno the bezel goes both directions instead of one? Other than that, they’re super similar.

I love the fact that Omega is way more low-key than Rolex is to wear on a night out shooting pool. I would never wear a Rolex out drinking but with an Omega the bums don't even notice.
I held a sub and I held a Seamaster. The Seamaster spoke to me. Those raised house dots were what stole my heart.

i think Omega can hit a home run if they do something at 40mm/41mm case size.
@@danikai2562what makes a Rolex better as a watch than omega??
100%
It's a good day when watchfinder releases a new video.
Love Omega. Have myself an old Geneve from 1969 in gold and I use for weddings all the time.
I have 2007 Breitling SuperOcean blue dial, ref# A 17360. If I did not have that, I would have an older Omega Seamaster 300m.
The comparison from 7:14 of the two dials tell you everything you need to know. Quality and finish goes to Omega 😦
I bought the seamaster 300M and speedmaster racing for the same price as one oyster.
Omega is the brand for me
That Omega is stunning
I’ve seen one of these Seamasters with the ceramic bezel from Black Black edition, it really makes the watch something special.
Can you make a video on the JLC Reverso please!

Great vid as always.
the ONLY thing keeping me from loving the SMP is the helium escape valve's crown at 10'o clock. Come on Omega, remove it by making the escape valve hidden like Rolex does with the Sea Dweller and you ablsolutely got a winner. Another thing while we're at it, give an option for non-skeleton hands as well....
Omega could start branding their watches 'Romexa'
I own a Seamaster and I never noticed the presence of the HEV at all. It never bothers me. IMO, HEV is the icon unique to Seamaster and it should stay there (despite practically zero person in the world will use it)
@@Bob.martens LOL, truth be told Omega is one of my fav brand. Love their Seamaster 300, CK 2998, Railmaster and many more. It's just i really dislike the odd crown position in watches, not only in SMP, thats why I got SNZF instead of SKX.

The market of rolex's watches is so freaking misshapen. Most of the rolex stores dont even have one sport watch.

Omega for sure. Way better bang for buck
Nikk Carroll No date. Too bad, with a watch that size we could have maybe even seen it without a cyclops...
Will the diver watches outer thread screw crown vs inner thread screw give different durability?
