Great review. Ive owned my 2020 G90 since March, and I continue to absolutely love driving it. And yes, the looks and comments from onlookers is endless (and fun!). You are bang on about the HDA issues... I played with it a lot (to see where/how it fails) and indeed it fails too often for me to trust it. Ive just learned the new 2022 model will have two LIDAR systems with "true" Level 3" autonomy, so maybe this willl solve it. That said, I rarely use or need HDA, so it hsnt been an issue. The G90 has easily been the nices driving experience Ive ever had. Love it!!!
I recently bought a 2017 Genesis G90 5.0 from Carmax with 21K miles. So far, the car is great. It looks just like a Bentley/Rolls Royce sedan, a bit more modest than them but still very elegant and sleek. Mine looks and smells brand new for half the price of the new model. A fantastic bargain compared to the European competition. By the way, my research indicates that the price of the G90 in South Korea is actually over $100,000 at the current exchange rate. So we here in the USA are very lucky compared to many other countries. The only draw back so far is the cost of parts. I decided to replace the original battery at my local mechanic and it cost in total $600.
@@nova1274 I recently sold my 2017 Genesis G90 and bought a 2021 model. I drove it very little, but it was a great car and the only repair I had to make was replacing the front ABS speed control sensors. My mechanic thought that because I live near the ocean, the salt water could have caused the system to deteriorate. The cost of the repairs was about $1,000 and my extended warranty covered two-thirds of the bill.
Very nice car. Saw it in a photoshoot for print advertisement earlier this year in Beverly Hills. The G70/80/90 finally coming into its' own. Lexus, Cadillac and Audi (to a further extent, BMW and Mercedes) now have reason for concern.
Nice flagship! That naturally-aspirated 5.0 Tau V8 is a great engine. I have it in the 'smaller' 2016 G80. I only wish they continued to offer it in the newer version of the G80.
I love your reviews, I'm really considering on purchasing one pre-owned they are dirt cheap compared to their new MSRP and makes a great value around $35k for 45k miles. You can't get any better than this especially with that V8
Love it, would I buy one brand new? Never I’m no fool. But 4-5 years from now, used? Most definitely. It’s way more appealing then the current used offering, The genesis sedan.
I had thought the same thing. But when I looked at used prices for the 2017 model, the prices are not as cheap as I had hoped. The rate of depreciation is comparable to other large luxury cars. I was hoping these would be dirt cheap used - I guess genesis is holding its value better.
You driving this car 700 miles alone made me watch this Matt. You should consider doing a planned route for all your press cars. Maybe the next city or state over depending how far you are from it. I would say at least a hour there and a hour back. Or set a planned city route that’s over AT LEAST 300 miles at the end of the week to better report on comfort and ride. (Not that you don’t do a killer job already) this will in my opinion enhance it. I get kind of sad when you say you’ve only driven a car 50 miles or so for the week.
I realize my comment is not a crowd pleaser, however the front end....I just can't get used to with a anthropomorphic sardonic grin; and the car to me looks like it is for is an old rich person. Agree back end does look distinctive and as you say 'majestic'......Maybe the car is designed for nobility.......G80 looks a little sportier to me though as I stated, front grille is sort of goofy looking.......Matt, it might be all the looks the car is getting is because it sort of different appearing and people wonder what planet it came from.
I have the same issues with cruise control in my 2019 Honda Passport. It is awful. Thanks for the info on this car, have been looking for long trip highway vehicle. So probably not this.
I’m sure it’s a great driver with all of the options, but I don’t care for the looks... It looks like a stretched Ford Taurus, and the wheel design reminds me of a 86’ Pontiac Sunbird...
Genesis dealer network seriously hurts them. Many dealerships are partnered with a Hyundai dealership. The general experience is not on par with other luxury cars. They should benchmark Lexus' customer experience model.
Sshhh Matt. You’re going to have to get rid of that Mustang for this new ride. You don’t want to wake the new baby. By the way, congrats to you & Beth on the good news!
The 5.0L throttle response is quite disappointing, as bad if not worse than most high displacement turbo engines. V8 engines are still the smoothest engines you can get so very appropriate for a luxury car like this one but seasoned V8 owners might not like this one as much as expected. Very interesting comments about the advanced driving systems as Hyundai has positioned itself as a leader on this front. The best ones I have experienced are from Audi so far.
As a G90 V8 owner, I can assure you that throttle response in Sport made changes so dramatically that you will actually chirp the tires off of a stoplight unintentionally. I'm not sure if he was in sport mode when he did the initial acceleration run. Also, the adaptive cruise control sensitivity can be adjusted in settings, from aggressive to a more passive behavior.

The G80 & 90 are excellent expressions of Art Deco. Their styling is second to none, I wish other brands would follow their path.

2 engines with almost the exact same 0-60 time. good job.
Hope they bring the Genesis coupe back! I love mine!
Genesis will eventually add a GT70 and GT80 in their lineup. They're probably not gonna be as cheap as the coupe was back in 2010 though.
