Thank you so much for your review I haven’t swung a club in ages. I love older clubs and want to invest in an old set of clubs and focus more on being a better skilled player. You’ve made me a fan I love your content I’m subscribed with the notification bell clicked on. I look forward to seeing more content from you 👍🏻
I keep ‘updating’, having a good month with the new clubs, then losing my swing and coming back to the Zing 2’s. I’ll find my swing, shoot the best rounds of the year, and think about going back to the new set again. I should just stick to the Zing 2’s. There’s just nothing like it.
I still use Ping Zing 2s today. Have two sets of more modern irons, but went back to the old ones. Modern irons mainly hit farther bc of vastly strengthened lofts compared to old clubs.
Man someone through an entire set of these in the dumpster at my office and I kept them! I also found a titleist AP1 5-iron in the set and a titleist driver lol I game the shit out of these irons! I also have a Taylor made rocketbladez 4 and 6 iron in my set. I’m an unconventional golfer but my buddy and I are growing up and drinking less and playing more. We have both out together good sets for next to nothing. The Taylor made irons in my bag cost 40$ each and the rest was free lol.
I went to watch Westwood play a pre British Open practice round on The Royal Liverpool Golf Course years ago (around 1999) and he had the copper version of these irons in his bag.
I used to have the zing 2 two iron which was fantastic. I loved the way Ping were so innovative back in the 90s with the Zing, Zing 2 and ISI irons. I bought a set of ISIs but only played about 2 rounds before they were stolen from the boot of my car and I’ve always wanted to replace them someday.
I’ve some 22 year old zing 2’s that I use (handicap 5-6). Thinking about groove sharpening, what shape are the grooves and will it help me spin a ball?
I played those many, many, many, many, many, many years ago!!! I was a beginning golfer back then, I wish I was better because I'd love to know if the Zing's were 'better' than my current irons! Great review! :D
Nice video. I've always thought that these were underrated clubs, even when they were current. I did not know that Lee Westwood played them for 13 years! If that isn't an endorsement I don't know what is!
Great vid, I still play my 21 year old ping ISI steel irons. I bought another set so I can my original set back to ping to have them refinished and reshafted by ping.
Here is a thought to for older golfers who may live their clubs but cannot get much out of them like they used to. Re-shaft to senior shafts. I got into club making way back in the 80s. Now I just do things with and for my clubs, what I want to experiment with. Sometimes I will help someone if they really need it. Most golfers have too stiff of a flex to the shafts. Seriously, if your swing speed has not been checked in a while, it is worth popping into a mega golf store and having quick analysis. If you are in the 80s, a senior flex can really help you get height and distance. I used R flex when my swing was in the 90s. Sure, lots of folks said you need a stiff. No I did not. I tried both and the R gave me the best distance. Same for the senior flex now. I also use a 3W, 5W, 7W and 9W. My irons start at 7. Swing easy, hit farther and more consistently. It works. Happy golfing trails all.
I found a set at savers .. (no 6 iron but S-3 iron inc L wedge ) .. for 5$ .. ( they didn’t have any price tags so I just threw em in an empty golf bag that was there ... w a 4.99 sticker ....... figured oh well we’ll see what happens at register lol 😆... ) They are in great shape ! W nice golf pride grips and the orig steel shaft .. black dot .. I am high 80s low 90s normally .. haven’t played much last couple years .. had been playing Calloway x - and mizuno ( from a few years ago .... used but decent ) well I went to the range the first tine yesterday ... just brought the 789 .. I fell in love .. literally probably hit 6-7 “bad shots “ which even those weren’t terrible !! High ball flight .. easy to work ball right left .. Jesus these are nice .. hallelujah !
I picked up a set of these for $75 on marketplace last week, 3-SW, black dot. So far I am loving them. The heads look so big when you are standing over them. I call them meat cleavers. I seem to have an easier time hitting the ball in the air and straighter, and the thin shots do not kill my hands.
On a vintage set of Ping Zing 2 white dots how would I determine if the steel shaft is stiff or regular? The sticker only Club just says Karsten. Thanks!
Best irons ever made, it's a point&swing club even at my worst. Been commented at for having a "box face for an iron set", until I proceeded to play with them "boxy irons". Retired them in my storage, rocking with the i15 set nowadays..
Hey Ryan. Great video! I still game the BECU ping eye 2 plus irons. I love hitting all these old pings. It would be awesome if you could do a video on all of the older ping shafts, jz, zz lite, zz65, etc... I want to get a set of zings and isi but I'm confused on what shaft to be looking for. I typically play DG x100 or other extra stiff shafts but have been playing JZ stiff in the eyes and they don't seem to cause too much of a problem for me. I was just wondering some of the main differences. Thanks!
And im back to my Zing 2 irons... Lost my swing with newer irons... Put the trusty Zing 2's back in the bag and got it back just like that 😂 high and straight with so much control ❤
Ryan- I head the Ping chart has changed and the old zings and eye2s, and ISIs don't correspond to the current ping color code chart. Do you know what color code I would use on these old clubs if I'm 5'7" and 35 inches wrist to floor?
Get the zing 2 set if you can. The original Zings or 1s are not as refined. The overall design improved from 1992 to 1994 the year zing 2 was introduced. The ZING 2 is considered to be a pinnacle of golf club design for all skill levels.
Curious, which modern shafts did you reshaft them with? I really like the JZ but got an elbow injury that I’m nursing and am considering some graphite iron shafts. Cheers
Found these ping zing 2 orange clubs at curbside with a “free” sign on it. They were probably cleaning house. Missing 6,7, W, but thanks to eBay, I’ve replaced them. Didn’t know about these till I researched them. Boy, did I score on these. They hit fantastic! Straight but a little lofty. But hey.
Hey Ryan. Sweet review. I am currently playing a set of old Ping ISIs irons and absolutely love them. The feel in the old cast heads from Karstens designs are amazing. Any chance you could do a review of the ISIs irons so I could learn more about them, or possibly something along the lines of how far Ping technology has come (including the ISIs irons of course)? I also use a Ping Anser 8.5 degree driver. What are your thoughts on the older drivers from Ping compared to the new ones? Cheers.
New ones are going to have a lot more forgiveness but on center hits the PING Anser driver was a great club. As far as reviewing old clubs - as I come across more sets I plan to continue this series, thanks for watching.
Where are you located? I would like a 3 wood cut down and keep the same swing weight and I have nobody in the area that can do it. I don’t want to put lead tape on it. It’s a Aero Burner. Love the videos!
I think I used these as long as Westwood.... Sold my eye2s in 96ish and bought the zing 2s....still was using them in 2016 I think. My new irons aren't any better to be honest
having spent five decades in the last century, i can tell you that you can still enjoy and play good golf with the clubs of yesteryear if they are in good shape--including wooden clubs. wish we could still get a wound golf ball! i would suggest that practically anything you can find from known manufacturers can set the hook deeply for those interested in this most frustrating and interesting game. you really don't have to spend your kids college fund to play golf....
I am a weekend golfer who has had my Ping Zing 2 irons since 1994. I am looking to purchase new irons but am not sure I am going to gain anything with new technology. I am looking at King Cobra F8 one lengths because the technology of one length shafts makes sense for consistency. Your video on the Zing 2's is making me think twice! Help!
They're awesome. Probably can find them under 200 too. But, well worth it imo. They're the only super forgiving clubs with great feel and an ingenius sole design.
Ryan thanks for this video - wondering if you might be able to help with a question I have on the older Ping irons and ferrules (I watched your ferrule video as well). I recently picked up a set of Ping I Karsten 17-4 PH Irons and am wondering if it’s possible to add ferrules to these? Do older Ping irons tend to come with a certain shaft size as a standard? Appreciate any help!
It is "possible" but with the age of the shafts, you might end up having to re-shaft with new shafts vs reusing the old ones. As far as the sizes go, the old pings are the same as the new pings at .355" Taper tip. Good luck.

I still play these irons. The best and easiest to hit irons ever made.

I just picked up a set for NZ$150. Amazing to hit. Feel awesome. Forgiving. I'm hooked.

Nice video. I've always thought that these were underrated clubs, even when they were current. I did not know that Lee Westwood played them for 13 years! If that isn't an endorsement I don't know what is!
I love mine. My set is 1 thru Sand. They're so forgiving that I still hit my 1 iron today and I'm 52. Doubt I could do that with any other iron.
My dad bought some new Taylor Made irons and passed these bad boys on to me. Love them and plan on using them for a long while.

Can I bend the ping zing lobe wedge from a 57.5 degree to a 60 degree?
I need a 60 but love my ping zing set
Try to find a Zing 2 Lob wedge or ISI/ISI-K Lob wedge. Those are 61 degrees.

I have a set of Ping Zing 2s.Made three years before I was born. I have tried newer sets, and nothing plays like the zing 2
Anyone know who else won tournaments with Eye 2s, Zings, or ISIs? I wonder when the last tournament was won with one of these clubs....

@@g0ezle0nard96 Thank you!
I would like to know what the redesign was.. just to know?
I wanted to youtube these irons to see if anyone has them still. I'm a proud owner and love mine to death
Me too!
Played with them today
Yep ditto
Same, Dad's old set
Thanks for this video!
I have an original set of Zing 2’s with steel “JZ” shafts. Do you have any idea if these are regular or stiff flex?
If the decal on the shaft for the JZ is red, it's stiff. If it's blue, it's regular.
Thanks I was wondering the same thing@@marklags2396
At the time the Zing 2’s were made, the JZ were only Stiff flex.
I play off six with these in the bag... They are quality irons
Really Good irons, even better than the Eye 2. I think. With modern shafts in them they feel really good to hit as well.
Curious, which modern shafts did you reshaft them with? I really like the JZ but got an elbow injury that I’m nursing and am considering some graphite iron shafts. Cheers

Ping Zing 2 Orange dot irons ?
thanks.
You should not use the orange dot you should just try to grow a little taller 🤣😂😉😉
found a set for 80 (zing 1) and I love them!

I sure love mine. They getting new grips put on as we speak.

@@ryanbarath1916 use only Ping shafts! To put any other brands may need to drill out the hosel then Ping shafts won’t fit. If you want to change back.
still playing Ping ISI irons
Collective arts is a great brewery!
Miguel Angel Jimenez, too.
I made the mistake of trading in my ZING 2’s for the PING Rapture’s.
As much as I like the Raptures, the ZING 2’s were much better.
Zing 2 (and the original Zing) irons just want to hit the ball straight.. never a bad thing for 9/10 golfers
Pick these up for $50 going to reshaft them
Curious, did you end up reshafting? If so, which shafts?
Great irons. Video waste of time. Why didn't you hit some balls and inform of the results?
