      Thanks It had to be done. She wanted a new one and me and Paige needed something to ride too sometimes. Paiges father would rather keep the old 2 strokes forever, but after the throttle stuck I figured A hospital bill and down time was more than 50k tb.

    I like your relaxed way to show the procedure when buying a scooter in Thailand. The green book is the most important thing to get. It's not a problem with a brand new bike but with a second hand private purchase it may be. I think 300 cc Honda would be my choice. Thanks for the video.

    Honda Scoopy is the better buy. Honda have 72% of the motor bike market in Thailand and the factory is in Thailand.
    I did so much research back in 2012 on scooters before buying the Honda Scoopy.
    Honda engines are robust compared to the Yamaha and the 110cc PDI is very reliable.
    White is the best colour especially for being seen at night.
    I also recommend to buy new because of the three year warranty that Honda give and Thais never service anything.
    You bought the correct scooter in the correct colour.

      I prefer the Honda Vario 125 (or even 150) as the Scoopy just looks too girly for my liking.

    Just a all round good guy Chuck. Now we need to see some video of her flying down the road on that Hog. 125cc has got to be pretty quick. I live next to the U of A & the college kids drive those things in packs but anything 50cc or lower they don't require a DL to ride so the hippies love them. I've seen those things getting on it pretty fast so I can't imagine a 125.. in the states that would have cost at least double that. Looks like you made her day. Your due some good Karma for all the good you do.. I cannot wait to see what all comes your way.. thanks for another great video! Can't wait to see what is next!

    Ah Chuck, I'm happy. You and Mum have made my day. Every time we walk by a motorbike shop in Chiang Rai I can't help but look at the colourful range that is available and dream. If I lived over there I would definitely ride one but here in Australia I would never consider it. Roads too busy and motor bikes are too expensive.

    $2,000 AUD - sounds OK . Those Scooters are indestructible . I certainly wouldn't buy a bigger 'bike - temptation to go fast . 125cc is big enough for your needs .

    My friend bought a new Yamaha motorcycle. I do not know the cost. It has three wheels. Two in the front, one wheel in the back. It is very stable, so unlikely to fall over. Comfortable seat with some storage under the seat. I would consider an electric bicycle. Can pedal it, or run on electric battery. Quiet, no noise, no pollution, no gasoline. The battery has to be recharged in a wall outlet. Exercise too. Personally, I have a girl’s 26 inch cruiser bicycle with a large front basket and two side baskets on the rear. No need for a license. I recommend a woman bike, so your leg can pass through the frame mounting. No need to sling your leg over the frame, as on a man’s bike.

  • @traceyhobbs8331
    @traceyhobbs8331 5 років тому +3

    your right chuck, I think you got a good price on that bike, here in u.s a scooter is about the same price as a basic motorcycle. and I would have picked the honda scooter over some of the other brands.

  • @politenessman3901
    @politenessman3901 5 років тому

    I picked up an UBCO electric bike and the one thing that I found that was radically different with an "auto" type bike is that you have to be sure to hit the kill switch before getting on or off as if it is on an incline and rolls, you will twist the throttle trying to hold it and launch the bike like a missile. just a matter of learning a proceedure to avoid.

      Yes, it is very cheap in Thailand. If you buy a car 300% tax.

    • @AaronDoud
      @AaronDoud 6 років тому +1

      Pretty sure the 300% tax is just for cars imported. If they are made in Thailand that doesn't apply. So things like the Toyota Camry or Honda City sell for reasonable amounts while a Chevy Corvette is crazy overpriced.

    • @philmiller9858
      @philmiller9858 6 років тому +2

      30% on cars. Somewhere between zero and 10% on trucks. (I forget) Cars are a status symbol there, so I seen many Thais buy a car when what they really needed was a truck. I sold my car and old truck here in Canada to buy a brand new loaded truck. My Thai GF was so disgusted with me because I was no longer a car owner. :)

    If my wife was there, she could get you the price for about $40,000 baht out the door. She is really really good with negotiating. We have a Honda scooter as well in Thailand, but our is 2013 model and not hybrid. I think it was 30,000 baht out the door. I love it and it goes pretty quick. That's our transportation to get around my wife's home town in Kanthararom, Sisaket province whenever we visit.

    Did you look at the alternative of buying a motorcycle limousine like the one that Klaus owns? Your relatives will have less problem with the height and they'll have good use for their business to transport a lot of things. I imagine it would not be too hard to disconnect the passenger attachment and use it as a standalone motorcycle when needed.

    How is the scooter holding up after 4 years

  • @craigross341
    @craigross341 6 років тому

    1:30 No foot-brake. I think a lot of them - even the bigger feet forward powerful scooters - have both brakes operating on a set mix/percentage on just the lever. There are so many bought on finance and repossessed basic 50cc step-thru in good condition can cost peanuts. Shockingly cheap. If you worked out how many calories it costs to walk a scooter is probably cheaper than hoofing it. Bigger bikes - 250, 350 - aren't much cheaper than in the West. I think the import duties hit them hard. If you can afford a bigger bike the state comes along with its hand held out.
    11:30 46,000 baht. Even after Brexit that's basically a £1,000 (I think) Honda Wave. Good value. I always think with scooters big wheels are a key thing. You can't safely move off your line, there's a pothole, it's the bigger wheel that saves you. Little wheels go right in and you rip the whole fork backwards and do a twelve point landing.

    Good choice Chuck :) Honda makes reliable strong scooters and 50K thb really isn't much for a brand new one. Was it a 110ccm or 125, I didn't quite get that? Don´t you have to have a motorcycle drivers license for scooters above 50ccm in Thailand btw?

      In Western Australia and perhaps in other states you can get around on a on a 50 cc bike is you have a car license, legal. As far as I know 50 cc bikes in Thailand require the same licence as a bigger bikes...no difference?

    • @sorendk1
      @sorendk1 6 років тому

      Hi David :) Here in Scandinavia you dont need a licence at all, unless the bike is bigger than 50ccm or goes faster than 30 km/h :) But I´m not sure if the "soi Mafia rocket" is a 50 or a 110/125 :D

    Good video and great advice on buying a scooter but it was also interesting to catch a brief glimpse of the Thai news on the tv in your home. Nicola Sturgeon, a Scottish politician, was doing what politicians do best, exercising their vocal chords. The interesting thing was that she was on your tv, here in the uk Thailand only makes the tv news if something huge happens, then we might see a senior government representative, probably not the leader of a regional opposition party.

    SCOOPY!!! Those seem VERY popular in Thailand. You can't turn your head without seeing one on the road. Very distinctive headlight. They're expensive for a scooter.
    I'll be retiring next year to Rayong. Already bought a Honda Wave 125. I like shifting. 42,000thb. It's a Honda. Accessory stores are everywhere. I got a front basket and rear trunk for like $60USD.
    A hybrid scooter? What on earth for? They get like 75km/liter!!
    Honda dealership here took my BOA credit card, no problem. Yes, insurance included... And NO DEALER FEE, SHIPPING FEE, or DESTINATION FEE like America tries to screw you with. Mention THAT!
    My scooter came with what they call a helmet, a rain jacket, a backpack, and a hot pot... LMAO!

    It seems to me the "Honda Click" 125 cc motorbike is the most popular in Cha-am, I would think 30/35 %, auto about 45 km to litre or better. Can get along at 100 kph on freeway? but not around town. All little motorbikes around town are much safer then the big bikes as they a nippy in and out out traffic, It's usual for small bikes to proceed to the front of traffic by moving in between cars. Not so easy for big bikes.

    Fair price, but I don’t think that 250 Honda was any cheaper than in the US.

    What model of bike was that Chuck? What cc? It looked similiar to a Fino with the single front light, but the Fino was too high yes?

    Hi Chuck, is there a limit on how much you can withdraw from a "Thai bank" in one go or daily, or does it depend on what type of account you have with the bank?

    • @notime2bsad
      @notime2bsad  6 років тому +1

      I can take out 25k at a time. I am not sure on a limit. I have several different accounts here.
