One thing I really pulled from Starting Strength and helped me a lot was splitting the pull into a halting deadlift that transitions into a rack pull. I'm sure once my DL gets a little too heavy to consistently put weight on every couple weeks I'll be able to keep going up by just splitting the DLs into the individual pulls.

That approach is indeed a productive one.
