I can’t believe how complex you make this. All you gotta do is find what # goes into both 24 and 30. 6. 6 into 24 is 4. 6 into 30 is 5. 4/5. Old people know how to do this stuff because we were taught math in school, unlike today
Thank you. I am “old” born in 1957 and I appreciate the simple, efficient refresher you provided. History, English, Social Studies, Science were easy and enjoyable for me. Math…not so much. I cannot follow this teacher AT ALL!
If the sum of individual numbers comprising each number = 3, then it is divisible by 3. (24 = 2 + 4 = 6 = divisible by 3.) (30 = 3 + 0 = 3 = divisible by 3.) So, you can go about this equation a couple of different ways ... realize that it's an equation that can use the 3 rule to reduce it to 8/10 (and then halve for the 4/5). Or just realize the enumerator and denominator are even .... and just keep halving until you reach the lowest common denominator. 24/30 = 12/15 ... and here you no longer have a denominator that is equally divisible by 2. But if you calculate the sum of each again, you will get 1+2=3 and 1+5=6 ... so this 12/15 fraction IS divisible by 3. Divide numerator and denominator by 3, and you get (12/3)/(15/3) = 4/5.
There are 2 ways to do this, so I'll do both and then watch your video 1) 24/30 both numbers are even, so divide by 2 12/15 one even and oner odd, but 3 will go into both 4/5 and that's as far as you can go 2) All the single numbers that will go into 24 are 2 3 4 6 8 and all the single numbers that will go into 30 are 2 3 5 6 We can cross out 6 and 8 because we have 3 and 4 and we can cross out 2 and 3 because they are common to both leaving us with 4 and 5 24/30 becomes 4/5
Find that highest number that divides into both the number is six six into 24 goes four six and the 30 goes five answer is 4/5 doesn't take a lot of calculations if you know your math
I'm not very good at math, which is why I scope out these lessons. But 14 minutes to explain what I could solve in less than 30 seconds is probably why I've always felt intimidated by numbers. Too much talk ... making the simple way too complex.
WOW! You’re taking something so simple and making it unbelievably complicated. Now I understand why children coming out on schools know nothing. They are lost.

Great comment, I agree 100%. I taught upper grade math and did it just like you said. P.S. I'm older, born in 1947.
True mate. There’s a lot of philibustering going on

It is not an equation.

1) 24/30 both numbers are even, so divide by 2
12/15 one even and oner odd, but 3 will go into both
4/5 and that's as far as you can go
2) All the single numbers that will go into 24 are 2 3 4 6 8
and all the single numbers that will go into 30 are 2 3 5 6
We can cross out 6 and 8 because we have 3 and 4
and we can cross out 2 and 3 because they are common to both
leaving us with 4 and 5 24/30 becomes 4/5
Agree with you Elaine 💯. All we needed to know was our time tables and off we go. Completed no wonder the kids are having problems.

helped so much!!
I did that in about 5 seconds without writing anything down.
I found that both numbers could be divided by six... result = 4/5
We were taught times tables by rote for a reason! We know 6 goes into both numbers. Factoring it out is interesting but not necessary.
What takes you 30 minutes to describe takes us older people only 5 minutes or less.

I think this is not meant for adults but for youngsters, which is more logical understanding. Later at our stage and age we can do it in a giffy.
4/5 easy. (24/30)

I'm just here for the comments 😊
X)2÷2=o 0)2*2=4
Factor 2x2x2x3 over 2x3x5 cancel the factor that are the same 2x3 leaving 2x2over 5
both numbers can be divided by 6 so it is 4/5 or .8 or 80%
= 4/5 or if you prefer .8
What about the 2 X 15 why did you conveniently leave it out? Because it messes up your method.

Let's reduce this fraction step by step.
Step 1: 4/5
Step 2: .... erm .....
No prime factors for this one. Look. Think. Solve.
4/5 = 0.8
I don't know why it took y minutes to get to the "meat" of the matter at minutes 7-8
The only reason people can't do this in their heads in less then 10 seconds is because they don't know their multiplication facts.
