John you, are wonderful teacher of mathematics your method of teaching makes what is believe to be hard so easy.
I'm 53 years old, and I just finally learned basic trigonometry. Thanks 🍻🍻
Seriously, Are you serious right now bro
Nah bro I'm in 5th grade and he is teaching me this welll
I like the daily exercise for math. I invest about an hour a day and it's fun learning how math and everything known to man uses math to get accurate results.
To help understand, you should have solved the tree height problem.
i dont know if u got the answer already but it is 346
Exactly! I still didn't learn how to solve that problem!
@@stephensmith60have u been able to learn how to do this yet?
Have u had a chance to learn how to solve these problems?@@stephensmith60
When you say 3/4 and the answer is 0.75, where in the triangle is that reflected, meaning if you could insert that value into the triangle, where would it be?
So far, I have not seen any teacher show the location of the ratio.
Well, 3 divided 4 is 0.75. so if use your calculator, hit arc tan (3÷4) and u should get an answer of 36.8°
I wish you would have had your calculator available, so that you could have completed the problem WITH THE CORRECT ANGLE as the answer.
36 degrees
Strange that you never applied all that to the initial tree problem. That would have been nice.
Also, why get into solving an example triangle with the Pythagorean theorem? It would have sufficed to simply say "the tree problem has one angle and the length of only one side, thus we cannot use the Pythagorean theorem as that requires knowing at least two of the three sides."
Yes, I agree. It would've helped a lot if he had gone back and solved that problem and he does often go off on a tangent ( haha) when he's explaining things. He gets there eventually but takes the long way around.
@@pysankar - "on a tangent",..., yeah, as they say, "no pun intended" LOL!
He does have some good videos and presents from good problems, but he really needs to learn how to stop babbling and just get to the point.
@@jszlauko Overall I do enjoy his videos and have learned a lot. But I don't think he needs to introduce himself and state his mission in every single video he posts. I finally just started skipping ahead over those parts.
Thanks, interesting. ....from Ireland.
I like you explanation , except for…. The fact i dont have a calculator all the time on the job. So finding the angle becomes problematic. So how do i convert the .75 to angle.
Do you not have a phone?
Good explanation of trig but did I miss the answer as to the height of the tree? That WAS the question presented!
He never answered the question... If u haven't received the answer yet.. I can give it to u
@@TacoDaddy-mr8ig My point was that he started giving an example and asked How Tall the Tree is. He gave us the distance out from the base of the tree and the angle to the top but then he went off ON A TANGENT and forgot to actually solve the height. It was like he wound up in the Indonesian archipelago and got blasted by that volcano down there, "SOHCAHTOA".
@@TacoDaddy-mr8ig But I do have a question, Is your partner a Toyota Pickup Truck? You know, "TacoMa"??
@@thomasharding1838 😅 no not at all
If you really want to know the height of the tree, please deposit $35.00.
😂 😅 I will do that soon
Hello, In solving for the angle of the triangle, you said that: "a calculator with trigonometric function buttons was needed or a Table of Values was needed to go any further!"... Why are 👨🏻🏫 you always without a 🧮 calculator when, it is necessary for you to have one? And since today is 🎄Christmas day, why didn't you solve the initial problem and determine THE HEIGHT OF THE TREE? As for the rest of the lesson, thank you for sharing!
Bad UA-cam teacher
You are great Sir
Sure it's easy to do on paper with made up numbers but in the field you need that piece of equipment to get that angle You know that piece of equipment that you quickly glossed over.
We don't need the name of a theodolite to solve the problem. Might need it to buy one so you can measure the angle, though. But it would have been nice to see the actual "asked" question solved.
Are you sure you don't need to use spherical trigonometry to find the height of the tree because the earth is a ball?
I have another way to measure the height of the tree…
I stand near the tree, my back facing the sun and I place a stone in front of me, whose distance has to be the same as my height. When my shadow will reach the stone, the tree’s shadow will be equal to its height. It takes a little longer and it requires a few beers to kill the time, it it’s pretty accurate.
Honestly my question is why tan? Used to calculate that angle, why not sin or cos?
Same question....
@@cosettelitvik Say, brother can you tell me when he tells you?

Where were you 54 years ago?
Then how is you call is video basic?
Because you are not showing how to calculate that without calculator?
My age is 47 years no I am doing BCA. I thought that your video will teach me a trigonometry basics. But I am not comfortable.
I am so sorry sir 🙏
Would u like some video to help u with the basics of trigonometry?
Probably the most useless video on the topic on the Internet you basically just defined what these things were, but didn’t show any basics at all why’d you hit record if you weren’t ready to give us the height of the tree
