  • Homemade French Vanilla Ice Cream
    1-1/2 cups Whole Milk
    1-1/2 cups Heavy Cream
    3/4 cup Sugar
    1/4 teaspoon Salt
    Juice of 1/2 Lemon
    1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract
    4 large Egg Yolks
In a saucepan heat milk, cream, 1/2 cup sugar and salt until very warm but not boiling.
Meanwhile whisk together the egg yolks and the remaining 1/4 cup sugar. Slowly ladle half of the hot milk mixture into the yolks while continuously whisking to temper the eggs. Now pour back into
the milk mixture in the pan. Add the lemon juice and continue to whisk.
Cook on medium low stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until thickened and it coats the back of the spoon. (Approximately 175 degrees F) Remove from heat and add the vanilla.
Strain mixture into a bowl and place bowl into a bigger bowl of ice. Stir to cool it down a bit. Cover the mixture with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator at least 4 hours to overnight to completely cool.
Freeze in your 1-quart ice cream freezer per instructions and store in a container to keep in your freezer for an anytime treat. Yields one quart ice cream. Double the recipe easily to make 2 quarts.

☀️☀️”I need some ice cream!” 😂 That looks totally delicious! I’ve cranked the old timey ones a few times but I never held out very long. I was a lazy little girl I guess. Lol! Hope the family enjoys it…of course, I know they will. Celebrate BIG. Actually, the celebration is over by now, right? Right! I stayed in the house all day as usual and slept off and on. I have my days and nights mixed up. Girl, I haven’t seen your hair down in a very long time. Had no idea it had grown so long. Looks beautiful!! You just look 💯 % cute as pie today. Love you and always your “Momma v” and friend. Stay cool and be happy. 2023 is for you…. Happy Birthday, America! 🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🏻🙏🏻

Momma Vik I cannot begin to tell you how big I smile when I see your comments even before I start reading them. You are the sweetest. I wish I could have handed you a big bowl of that ice cream. To tell you the truth John Bush hogged pastures on the farm and I edited videos. All the family just did their in little family thing. And I'm not gonna lie it was nice to plan nothing for a change. Lol. But I did miss seeing all my kiddos. Love you Momma. My Daddy has his days and nights mixed up too. Lol. I say he is acting like a teenager. 😉😄💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

I love how you show us your recipes but also tell us the stories about your life and food. Brings so many memories back to me of my past. Sometimes, they would add fresh peaches to the blend. Now that's something the kids now would probably totally be saying "what have you done to the ice cream?!?!". 😳😁 I loved it ALL!!!

My daddy always made homemade with the crank & it was so delicious growing up. He passed away when my kids were little so he never knew that we ended up owning an ice cream shop, Deluxe Tastee Cream, but our ice cream we sell reminds me so much of the taste of his. And you are right, you have to use real heavy cream or its not ice CREAM...what some of the franchise places sell isnt even whole milk! But up here if you put eggs in it is considered custard. Oh btw you were correct on the word beater...in the big commercial machine we have they are called beater bars. Happy 4th of July!

I made it up until about 10 years ago. Sure did! Id still make it today, but too much for just me. Maybe I need to just do it and take it around to neighbors!
Goodness! We had vanilla, but it was always seasonal fruit (strawberry, peaches, etc) then chocolate, then banana
      Girl… it was endless!

Yes you can add chocolate to this recipe before freezing. I simply have chocolate syrup for anyone that wants to put it on this vanilla and stir it in for chocolate.

Hey Amy. Since I was the youngest in my family of 7 kids. I didn't have to turn the handle I sat on the top while others tuned it. This way it wouldn't move as much. Yes its was cold but on a hot summer day it felt good. Wonderful memory. So yes find a old time ice cream make and let those grand babies make some memories.😊😅

💖💖💖 This❣️ What brand Vanilla are you using⁉️ I’ve got a batch of homemade Vanilla Extract that I made in January extracting. Trying to wait til September or so to use it. Until then I’d like to buy a good Vanilla that’s a deeper flavor than McCormick.
