Calling BeamNG a car crashing simulator is doing it an injustice. It is the very thing you said didn't exist, it's a pure car game & it's the best one out there. The cars behave exactly as you would expect them to, the physics are top notch. The crashing is just a byproduct of how realistically built the cars are using the beam & node system. It is, in fact, a great game. It's the game I dreamed about as a kid when I was playing games like Burnout, Flatout, & GTA IV. It's the greatest car sandbox ever created.
When I was a kid, I only liked the crashing aspect of BeamNG drive. But now, once I realised how realistic the driving is, I have zero interest in crashing cars.
GTA4 is finally getting the love it deserves! I loved the driving physics in 4 from day one. The amount of grip a car has, the speed at which you can take turns feels incredibly realistic, soberingly so when you try to stop only to crash into someones rear. The only thing that is a bit too much in the game is the intense lean of the suspension itself. I mean, no car has so much suspension travel that it's side skirts touch the asphalt. But that is more of an "too much of a good thing". Making the suspension a bit stiffer and limiting the suspension travel a bit would be all it takes. The raw phyiscal movement of the cars is perfect. No other game has made me feel anxious while driving fast. Deformation and mechanical damage of the cars from deformation also is this perfect balance between playability and authenticity.
I learned that relaxed driving is better than racing in racing games from Bus Simulator Indonesia and City Car Driving. Teen car lovers in my age is still obsessed with speed
First I played GTA V and just like any other person I loved it. But I was also aware of the fact that GTA IV has an Epic Storyline. So I started playing it. Initially I was hating the game because of its attention needed driving mechanics Which used to be called the worst of all games. Also the colour grading also doesn't seem much interesting at first. But as soon as I played the game more, I got used to those driving mechanics and as the story progresses the colour grading also makes sense. Now it's my favourite GTA game of all time. And remember I am not comparing it with any other all of them are not just unique but special.

An honourable mention to My Summer Car. It's not the best realistic driving sim but it's pretty close IMO. The fact that the body not only deforms, but engine parts, tires and shock absorbers can also break really makes it a good car sim. Where building the car is the main course, driving it after building it for umpteen hours is the dessert. and playing in a world that feels like ur character's an actual being makes it feel really good
I think you might like Wreck Fest. its basically a successor to flat out with sim cade physics made by the same company bugbear. it does feature a demolition derby mode which can also be played online. you can drive busses, combines, lawn mowers and cars. a 2nd one is meant to be coming soon.
I'm like you!! I love car games that let me crash to hell and back. I grew up on Burnout Paradise and for years I played racing games for the sake of crashing. My dad then introduced me to Sim-Cade racing which made me fall in love with racing itself, so now I move in both circles: The racing games with pristine cars and little crashing physics, and the crashing with metal, screws, and car parts being flung everywhere in a beautiful artistic display of carnage.
I love BeamNG not only because of the deformation damage (which is great since it REALLY punishes you for not driving better), but also because of how everything else is simulated, down to the automatic gearbox having "PRNDSM" modes and the engine warming up. About My Summer Car... Do I have to say? The whole building and maintaining the car sold it to me, period.
idk but i loved to drive in the opposite way and plow into the pack in nascar games or even to watch a massive pile up of racecars at macau or spa or even an oval chaos is something that runs deep in humans
7:27 That reminds me of when I went over to a friend's house as a kid to play some NASCAR game, just to only go in the opposite direction and crash into all of my opponents. Also, you should check out Wreckfest, it's pretty much the spiritual successor to the Flatout series as it's made by the same people. You may have heard of it's demo version from around 10 years ago called "Next Car Game".

Burnout paradise is cool, but it pales in comparison to Burnout 3 and Revenge to me.. there, the races are very straight foward (I don't like the open world "find your own way" in the races) the cars break and bent a lot more (explosions included) and the soundtrack is leagues better as well. I don't know why they aren't more popular.. and revenge can still be playable on xbox One and Series.
One game that I love because of them crash physics is Crash Time 3. The whole Crash Time series has very cheap games and very fun too. I really recommend anyone to play them.
Bro you should really see racedriver grid. It has an excellent vehicle damage like its a perfect mix between arcade and realistic and good arcade/simcade handling with a lot of licenced cars
Agreed with GTA IV's driving physics, I really hope GTA VI has similar, if not better driving physics than GTA IV. I'm currently playing Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time & I agree about the cars feeling all the same, luckily there's mods to fix that & now I actually enjoy driving around in Night City.
please check out the 'Crash Time' series, it has one of the best deformation and arcade driving physics. Crash Time 4 (open world) and 5 (not open world) being the best in the series.
Having cosmetic and performance damage can raise the stakes in a racing game. NFS Prostreet and the NFS Shift series had this concept where you not only don't have to win the race but also need to win the race without damaging your car or else you lose points, which mean less cash reward.
Talking about "raising stakes", and mentioning NFS High Stakes 🙃 4th NFS installment is the first where you could damage vehicles, which could affect performance, and wallet (in campaign mode). This ties in well with the ability to play against (or as) cops.
Finally I thought i was the only one, most people forget that in open world game if car driving is fun realistic then it is good, but if it feels lanky like watch dogs 2 it makes it less fun. I agree with your opinion😊 I subbed too
I'm a racing game UA-camr, and I've noticed recently more people sharing this kind of mindset about racing games, especially outside of racing sims. I thought for a while it was because the racing in modern arcade racers was just not as interesting or had gotten stale from repetition over time, but I think this is also a fairly valid reason to not do the racing as much in racing games.
I love BeamNG when I drift and parts of my car hit walls or something like that and my car looks like a obviously broken drift missile car but still able to drive and drift. It looks like a tank full of gunshot wounds but still fighting. It looks like a broken robot that is almost broken but not dead. It looks so cool to me.
GTA 4 definitely didn't have realistic handling, unless we were assuming everyone in Liberty has bald tyres. For me, BeamNG handling is like THE thing.
This is so weird to hear for me, because usually like racing cars more than just driving them. But I've been avoiding it because of the ai being so bad
I enjoy both racing game and driving in other games. Damage as a mechanic is good because if you genuinely screw up, you're punished for that, forcing you to become a better driver. I'd also include early Wreckfest because it used to have part degradation. I loved that aspect before they took it out, because it gave me a reason to upgrade. When parts don't wear it, what real reason is there when you can just buy the next car up the list?
I feel there's a large difference as well between competitive racing and just... going for a cruise. Open world racers like Forza are okay for it, but they still emphasize racing in some way. It's nice cruising through big, bustling cities rather than large open road networks.
It me. I'm like this. I started playing driving games with Test Drive back in the mid 80's but it wasn't until I played Twisted Metal on the PS1 in the 90's that I started having fun playing driving games. I did think the first Gran Turismo was cool but that was only because it had Garbage on the soundtrack. My favorite driving game is GTA V, and that's because I love the map, and you can customize your vehicles. Plus I love the driving mechanics (I don't care if they're 'too arcadey'). I think it's because i have some happy memories of living in Cali during the early 2k's plus I'm disabled, and due to my epilepsy I've never been able to drive. Video games are my way of experiencing something most people able to drive might take for granted.
It's not the first time I’ve heard someone say they don’t like racing, so I don’t think that is too crazy. If anything, it seems that you might just like vehicular combat games. Car combat games aren’t necessarily ‘racing games’, since some only have arenas to fight in (like the deathmatches in FlatOut 2). You also have different styles of combat too, like the physical combat you see in Burnout and FlatOut. But also, games like Gas Guzzlers Extreme and Full Auto 2 Battlelines have weaponized combat, with things like machine guns and rockets strapped onto your vehicles. Even the racing in those games takes a bit of a back seat since a lot of the gameplay revolves around trying to survive and deal damage to opponents. And of course, car combat games _usually_ have good damage models as well. I’d say to look into the genre of vehicular combat more. You might find a lot of games you like there.
7:37 There is reason why racing games are divided within two categories, Simulation and Arcade, Simulation is basically more focused on giving the feeling of realism of driving a car is (Gran Turismo, Asetto etc). And Arcade is where all the fun and chaos is, and unfortunately Arcade is...quiet of a dying breed, despite the huge demands of more Arcade games. So in shorter words, no you're not alone. The GRID series (especially 2 and Autosport) is a perfect balancing between the simulation and arcade genre In my opinion. Also considering you said that you loved the Flatout series, Have you tried TRAIL OUT? Asides from Wreckfest, it's also another game made by the ex-Bugbear Devs (the guys behind FlatOut). I'm also sure you would enjoy the Criterion era NFS games (Hot Pursuit 2010, Most wanted 2012, Rivals).
I played Trail Out but it was not good as Flatout in my opinion. I also played Most Wanted 2012 and it's a good game. But it could've been better. I did not play Rivals.
Watch dogs one’s driving physics are a lot better than 2 and legion IMO but my absolute favourite games to just drive around and mess around in is mafia 2 and gta IV. On PC my favourites are my summer car and beamng.
Translated by Google: You don't like racing but you like driving, that sounds contradictory. It's one thing to have driving skills and another thing to have racing skills. Please note that: "Don't underestimate racing and driving games for their simplicity" "Driving is much more than just pressing the accelerator and turning the steering wheel" It's true that driving games can be challenging, but hey, the point is that you control the car yourself, not that Mario Kart-like drift mechanics do it for you.
Driver San Francisco also has great car physics, balanced between arcade and realism, and the damage model is great considering they have licensed cars
I really agree with your video. GTA IV felt amazing to me, and I've played it a lot! But when I tried GTA V, the driving was so boring that I lost the interest. I also agree to what you said about the other games!
They recently added an optimization update, so maybe you don't have to get a gaming PC, just a normal 1. (Also you should run it on Vulkan if you ever get it, the Direct X11 version runs so much worse)
That's why FlatOut, imo, is doing an excellent job at handling both aspects. It incentivises crashing into others while racing because of it's satisfying damage model and ragdolls. It also offers a core mechanic at the same time: getting nitrous for destroying everything in your way. Not to mention, the physics make the gameplay feel refreshing because you never know what can happen in your. You either eliminate the rest of your opponents, try and race clean, try and eliminate one specific driver in order to win or just drive normally and let the gameplay speak for itself. You may encounter some surprises along the way. Burnout does the same thing as well, but I had a much better time with FlatOut and I really hope that somehow, in someway, the license gets back to Bugbear (the original developer). I tried Trail Out...but it doesn't hit the same. While at first it seemed promising, the gameplay didn't feel as satisfying as any of the FlatOut games to me (besides FO3 and 4 of course). Good damage model, but the crashes felt...stiff. The same goes for the ragdolls. Also, the story was pretty obnoxious to me. FO managed to have a balance in ''storytelling'' (if you really wanna call it that) by having ''somewhat'' realistic depictions of drivers and make them iconic with their designs, car choice, descriptions, liveries and driving styles. We didn't need obnoxious cutscenes to show us the ''chaotic'' theme of the game because the gameplay was handling that role. Instead in Trail Out, we have these obnoxious characters in an obnoxious setting and everything started to feel like a parody to me. Well...this turned out to be a mini rant on Trail Out but that's beside the point. The main thing I'm trying to cover is...to whoever is reading this comment...play FlatOut, if you haven't already. Or replay it again! Great video! Hope to see more from you.
I will say I love racing games, but if they don't have realistic enough crash physics and car damage they get boring and the racing really has to carry the game. I love games that punish you for being bad at driving. I think testing the limits of the artificial worlds we play in is a way of making sure we aren't in one ourselves.
Gta v is because of limitations on the 360 that’s why everything was dumped down and on the 360 there’s actually gta Iv like deformation they removed it on the ps4 and pc ports aka the next gen ones because of the first person perspective and the map was made bigger so they made the physics looser whereas gta iv was smaller so they could focus on more details
in gta 5 cars feel like toys, it's just not the same anymore, gta made you feel the consequences of crashing at high speed, you had to learn how to drive fast and not crash, it was hard but rewarding, now in gta 5 cars feel like they are made of titanium.
What i think is that a game is good when there is challenge. If the game helps yoi in any possible way then it's not worth the play. If GTA cars gets broken is because you cannot drive properly which is something that you should fix and it shouldn't be the game changing the car resistence to help you. If a game has no penalities/challenges then it's not a game but an interactive movie.
I genuinely believe that GTA V went to a much more arcadey model because of kids. Regardless of perspective of whether children should be playing the game, I would wager that middle schoolers and high schoolers made up a major portion of the games demographic upon its release (and likely still the case well into its life). Not to say there aren't older players who didn't like the somewhat more sim-y physics of GTA IV, but I'm still for the time being think its just down to more arcadey physics being more accessible. Unfortunately I still haven't managed to finish the story of GTA V, and now you have me wondering if the less than satisfying driving model is the culprit for why I keep seeming to lose interest in the game, despite enjoying the PS2 era games and GTA IV all the way through and still playing them for years after beating them.
So basically you prefer driving and having fun more than racing - there is nothing wrong with that and i'd argue that most people are acutally like that. Hardcore racing simulators are dead in comparasion and believe me those are the only places where you can do some real virtual racing. And by that I mean that skill ceiling is incredibly high - because lets be honest, hardcore simulators are still games. I myself am someone who loves hardcore simulators and huge multiplayer races (50+ cars on track) and from what you said - dont even bother with them for the most part. If you really wanted something a bit less hardcore but with "proper" physics, rules, mechanisms like pit stops, weather, damage model and AI, I think the only one you can look at is Automobilista 2, because you can race trucks and gokarts and formulas in the same race, you can race trucks on gokart tracks and see the mayhem and most importantly you can host a multiplayer race with your friends AND(!) AI with a few clicks. But remember, its a simulator/sandbox so you have to find your purpose, as there is no meaningful (like career mode or challanges) singleplayer.
this doesnt make any sense to me but you do you ig, imo im the complete opposite, games like wreckfest are of no interest to me but i love need for speed and burnout games, burnout is the closest i get to car destruction though i dont mind playing beamng every once and a while, i just dont find it as fun
The perfect driving game doesn't exist, they all have strengths and weaknesses. But for me the most fun is burnout 3, legends and dominator, paradise is alright, but it feels very stiff in comparison. GTA 4 is a good choice too, but the lack of speed and the over exaggeration of the physics are a big turn off, irl cars just don't spin out taking a slight turn at 50kmh, but in gta4 they do, which is ultimately more annoying than realistic.
"irl cars just don't spin out taking a slight turn at 50kmh, but in gta4 they do" Except they don't. You're the one intentionally making them spin out.
I won't lie, you do have a very weird take on racing games or games with cars as a whole. And yes, this is coming from someone who gives brutal car deformation or good car combat in games all the praise (my favorite games are Burnout Paradise and NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 among others), but this key detail alone doesn't dictate how good or bad (or meh lol) a game is. I for one do care about the racing in racing games when it's not about the crashing, but more so about its outside factors: presentation/vibe, feel, driving. Games like GRID 2, DiRT 3, NFS Shift to name a few are what I consider to be crazy fun and exciting but because of how the game feels and presents itself. Others such as Forza Horizon 4 are still good fun but it doesn't have these things the aforementioned do, it lacks an extravagant style. I guess what I'm insinuating is that any racing game can be great fun regardless of the crashing stuff. What these games need to do to get on that level is feel crazy and fresh. Maybe this is a very weird take, too. Haha When it comes to games with cars (e.g. GTA series), I don't think it's a requirement to include extensive car deformation or crash physics, but it's a neat thing to have. It's just that many people don't care about such, hence why GTA V took a complete 180° and made the driving casual-friendly. People likely don't want to roam around in cars that feel slow, sluggish and weighty as it would waste more time to get from A to B, they just want to simply play the game (just my POV, don't quote me on that lol). I find both's driving models to be fine but I understand why others praise GTA IV for its model a lot more. And let's face it, crashing in V is really lame unless you jump from a steep ramp and hit your car in a sensitive angle or something. And regarding your comment on BeamNG: no, this is not a car **crash** simulator, it's a vehicle simulator. It simulates vehicles, so having near-perfect crash physics is more so a byproduct. Just felt like pointing that out. Alright this is everything I wanted to blabber about have a good day sir
Thank you for your comment. Nice to hear peoples opinion on these topics. About Beamng Drive, I guess you're right. I'm only playing it to simulate crashes. But It's more than that.
i would choose beam ng but this is not game at some point this more physics engine but i hope rockstar can achieve level of this realism if they want to so my choose is beam ng cuz its like mile stone for realism in driving games but yeah gta 4 is have that balance but in gta v we still can destroy cars in amazing way i see videos where guys make a still driving cars looks like a destroyed can😅😅
5:26 gta 4 isn't realistic though, in gta 5 it's better because although gta 5's handling is too easy no matter the car, there is a noticeable distinction between each type of vehicle in terms of handling, speed and brake quality, where as in gta 4 all vehicles brake and handle poorly(which is perfectly realistic for certain vehicles) and the only noticeable distinction is their speed, and while bikes in gta 5 handle way too good in gta 4 the opposite occurs and it feels like driving on ice
I always said that cars in IV handle like 70's land yachts, even bikes to some extent It's not "realistic" but definitely leans to it. I still prefer Mafia 2 with simulation driving though. It nailed driving nicely, especially the sense of speed. Still has vehicle damage than IV though, you can't bend the suspension

i wouldn't call gta 4's driving physics that realistic but it is actually fun and interesting instead of driving little toy cars around like in 5.
I just wish there was a speedometer visible because i cant judge my speed at all in that game so i often crash

Eyceeeee! My fav car game is Underground 2. Cause of the menu and the modification!
Did you play split/second? It's a racing game, but instead of focusing on destroying cars, it focuses on destroying the environment
I did play it once or twice long time ago but I don't remember it much.

There is reason why racing games are divided within two categories, Simulation and Arcade, Simulation is basically more focused on giving the feeling of realism of driving a car is (Gran Turismo, Asetto etc).
Not mentioning Wreckfest in this video considering the main theme of the video that u talk about is quite a huge missised opportunity.
I'll check it out
@@Lemmysterr It is from same devs that did flatout 1 & 2 but more enhanced / up to date since that game came to full release in 2018
Watch dogs one’s driving physics are a lot better than 2 and legion IMO but my absolute favourite games to just drive around and mess around in is mafia 2 and gta IV.
On PC my favourites are my summer car and beamng.
7:26 i remember i used to do in EA Nascar 2001

You don't like racing but you like driving, that sounds contradictory.
It's one thing to have driving skills and another thing to have racing skills.
Please note that:
"Don't underestimate racing and driving games for their simplicity"
"Driving is much more than just pressing the accelerator and turning the steering wheel"
It's true that driving games can be challenging, but hey, the point is that you control the car yourself, not that Mario Kart-like drift mechanics do it for you.
Driver San Francisco also has great car physics, balanced between arcade and realism, and the damage model is great considering they have licensed cars
I agree
They had to create fictional brands that could blow up though. Dykemann, ASYM, etc.
That's why I love Colin McRae Rally 2005
I really agree with your video. GTA IV felt amazing to me, and I've played it a lot! But when I tried GTA V, the driving was so boring that I lost the interest. I also agree to what you said about the other games!
DiRT Rally 2.0 would change bro's mind
i agree, you should give mtasa a try for some fun multiplayer freeroam or just drifting casually
BeamNG is super fun.
I wish I could own a gaming pc so I can get it
They recently added an optimization update, so maybe you don't have to get a gaming PC, just a normal 1.
Coming from the same ideas as you are, I strongly advise you to play wreckfest
I'll check it out
i would like to know what you think about Wreckfest. I'll definetely watch it if you make a video about that in later days
I'll check it out
This video is gonna bang in a few weeks
race driver grid, all you need is 4 wheels... and you will be able to limp over the line in liscened cars
This is like some villain monologuing his shit
Carmageddon series
Keep the videos coming 👏🏾
Definetly GTA IV is one of best in what you are looking for and tbh in many many more GTA IV is just better than many other games, simply timeless.
There is only 1 game I like racing in this being Wreckfest
You should try Crashday.
Yooo King Of The Road soundtrack!
You should try out Wreckfest if you haven't.
I'll check it out thank you
Car go boom = dopamine
Carmageddon 2 with mods,.. Thats how I got my fix decades ago,..
Man, you missed the Need for Madness era. Multiplayer is dead rn tho. You can still play multiplayer iff you can get your friends to try it.
1:16 its not strange I do it too😂
Have you tried Carmageddon?
I have
You love destruction derby games
I have a game for you, it's called Wreckfest.
this doesnt make any sense to me but you do you ig, imo im the complete opposite, games like wreckfest are of no interest to me but i love need for speed and burnout games, burnout is the closest i get to car destruction though i dont mind playing beamng every once and a while, i just dont find it as fun
Good Opinion. I like to destroy other cars online racing lobbies of forza
This script was written by Logan Sargeant
😂
The perfect driving game doesn't exist, they all have strengths and weaknesses. But for me the most fun is burnout 3, legends and dominator, paradise is alright, but it feels very stiff in comparison.
GTA 4 is a good choice too, but the lack of speed and the over exaggeration of the physics are a big turn off, irl cars just don't spin out taking a slight turn at 50kmh, but in gta4 they do, which is ultimately more annoying than realistic.
"irl cars just don't spin out taking a slight turn at 50kmh, but in gta4 they do"
Except they don't. You're the one intentionally making them spin out.
If you haven't already, i'd say you'd really enjoy Beam Ng, probably one of the most realistic car physics game's around
I did mention in the video
i think you'll like Crash Time
Thank you, I haven't heard about that game.
Haha
When it comes to games with cars (e.g.
By the way, if you're reading this: why not check out Crash Time one day? Maybe this'll keep you engaged. Got good crashing, too.
Thank you for your comment. Nice to hear peoples opinion on these topics. About Beamng Drive, I guess you're right. I'm only playing it to simulate crashes. But It's more than that.
@@KeknanXD I'll check it out
Assettocorsa??? Hello
i would choose beam ng but this is not game at some point this more physics engine but i hope rockstar can achieve level of this realism if they want to so my choose is beam ng cuz its like mile stone for realism in driving games but yeah gta 4 is have that balance but in gta v we still can destroy cars in amazing way i see videos where guys make a still driving cars looks like a destroyed can😅😅
dawg said gta driving is good XD
nah bro, you LIKE cars 😂😂😂
5:26 gta 4 isn't realistic though, in gta 5 it's better because although gta 5's handling is too easy no matter the car, there is a noticeable distinction between each type of vehicle in terms of handling, speed and brake quality, where as in gta 4 all vehicles brake and handle poorly(which is perfectly realistic for certain vehicles) and the only noticeable distinction is their speed, and while bikes in gta 5 handle way too good in gta 4 the opposite occurs and it feels like driving on ice
I always said that cars in IV handle like 70's land yachts, even bikes to some extent
It's not "realistic" but definitely leans to it.
I still prefer Mafia 2 with simulation driving though. It nailed driving nicely, especially the sense of speed. Still has vehicle damage than IV though, you can't bend the suspension
@@JadeyM.TheSecond in gta 4 it’s realistic for some cars, but a porsche shouldn’t handle the same way as a 70 dodge charger
@@ArthurMorgan-rdr2gta Yeah, that's what I thought
No such thing as "realistic driving" even on simulator games.
bro is underrated asf
Try BeamNG
Psichopath
play only beamng than
