If anybody thinks Snowden is a traitor, then you drank the government kool aid in gallons.
In all respect, he is a traitor. The question is what his betrayal was against and was it for a good cause? Finn from Episode 8 was a traitor, but I don't think anyone considers that a bad thing.
***** Thanks for the correction. So he betrayed the Government for the sake of the people, right?
That begs the question, did he betray the government, or the people? Because there seems to be a "dysfunctional" division between the two, where one should not exist. His act opened the eyes of many unwitting Americans who were living under the impression that the government couldn't do such a thing legally.
Is he a traitor in the myopic eyes of the government? Yes. Is he a traitor to the people? Certainly not!
( the comparison between the actions of a fictional character and a real person is rubbish. There are plenty of authentic examples you could've provided. )
Did you ever work in Intel in NSA or CIA or in the defense dept?
I government kool aid, I hear it comes in TPP favors
So nobody's gonna mention that Cumberbleach pun? xD that shite was golden.
It was all white I guess.
omg right!? Lmao
xD Yoo andydzee, you da real mvp for that one!
nice profile picture
Mine? If so, many thanks! :D
I actually think Snowden deserves a medal for what he did.
I agree he does deserve a medal
I'd prefer a presidential pardon over a medal.
He absolutely does. If the government can't stand by its own laws, why should its citizens? Snowden did something patriotic and something that nobody else would've dared to. He defied the most powerful government on earth and did it for love of country.
+Unguided Reaper he gave that information to a foreign country then ran to russia of all places..where is the patriotism in being available to your countries enemy?
+BlaqueCzar So he should have stayed to get waterboarded and throwned into some black hole with no chance of getting a fair trial? People forget that the Government is the one who broke the law in the first place. and it didn't change anything in the end because it never stopped a terrorist...Let me ask you this, what's stopping your Government to turn on you one day? How can they be kept in check if you don't even know that this program exist? Fear is a powerful tool don't get blinded by it.
'what is loyalty to your country? Is it to the people or the country?'
THE PEOPLE ARE THE COUNTRY!
did he say that? XD he likely meant "government" lol.
He means well, that Jeremy guy :)
Yes agreed, it's scary that anyone would think your country = government instead of the people.
I'm loving the evolution of Jeremy's hair. Watching it change over the years is like watching a child grow. It's currently in its rebellious teenage years
Can't wait to see his hair go to college, it's going to be tough to see him go but it's the best for him
He looks like Keanu Reeves with David Lynch's hair.
I expect to one day click on a Jeremy Jahns video and see that his hair has bloomed into a beautiful full, 9-12-inch wig that looks like it should be on a rocker.
He's slowing evolving into Max Landis.
His hair is evolving into Ace Ventura.
Snowden is a hero for informing the people.
The funny thing is that is Watergate had happened today, those guys would have been charged with treason instead of Nixon stepping down... Think about that for a second
Nixon covered up a 5 minute audiotape and had to resign. Hillary removed 300,000 emails and they didn't do shit to her
He is no hero. We are less safe for what he did and his motivations included being desperate for attention and a misguided sense of morality. The latter would've been honorable if he didn't run away from the consequences like a wimp,
+NeonTime less safe from whom? The Russians? Please... Since you didn't wage war on one another during the Cold War, you never will. Even then, you did your war games on other countries, while both making a shitload of money by selling weapons to your allies. It's all business.
+Erevos85 there are terrorists IN the U.S too ya know?
ha. yeah ok
Just watch Citizenfour. It's an actual documentary and is very good.
Is it on Netflix? If not, where can I find it?
+staybeautiful305 just look it up buddy.
You can rent it on iTunes for 99 cents.
+shadow wolf thank you!
+0=Axel=0 Oh, I see. Too bad I only have my iPhone. Thank you for answering though. 🙂
Snowden the man.. Totally the shit. He rocks.
what did he do? say that the government was spying on us, shit i coulda told you that
+Black Star he proved it, and lots of people had no clue.
Christopher White dumb people maybe, and what did this information change? Absolutely nothing
+ttarkA113 and so did a majority of people fighting wars in oue name but that doesnt make them heros that just makes them pawns
+Black Star He proved it was true so know its not a just conspiracy theory.
How can anyone be against this?
I can't see how a citizen can argue for the criminal government in this case.
I know A LOT of adults that is against this. They said they the government "needs" to spy on us to make us safe, like my dad and my grandpa
Your dad sounds like he trusts the government too much
@history nerd.
Those kinds of adults are responsible for the creation of the useless millennials and all of America's current backwardness in general.
I know it's hard but make sure you hold them accountable. Never mind, I see you already are.
well alot of citizens are idiots and beg the government to take away are freedoms for possible safety instead of doing whatever we can to protect the freedoms.
we send soldiers to die in foreign country's to protect are freedoms from them while we stay at home and give away our freedoms anyway.
+The History Nerd well adults need to read a fucking book lol.. so pathetic how people just lay down to the government
Citizen Four exists so this doesn't need to
+Human Being isn't it documentary?
+Zac McGlynn that's the joke
+Quentin Pearson oh my god I feel like an idiot
Yeah but that Doc doesn't have JGL...
Zac McGlynn happens to the best of us
Snowden did the right thing
The government exists for the people not the other way around
why aren't the people disagreeing with you actually giving us reasons as to why? Seriously, both of them.
***** you're being a hypocrite, you made the first rebuttal, so is it wrong to say you should have had proper reasoning? ,mind you , the original commenter did provide reasoning earlier which you have yet to respond to
The privacy invasion of citizens by the government for national security reason may mutate into complete surveillance of every person who has a dissident view or ideology to the people power, the democrats may start victimizing religious/conservative/2nd Amendment people or the republicans start oppressing equality/pro choice/non white people and the torchbearer of free world can transform into an oppressive regime like North Korea, It stop or the surveillance procedures should have really clear red lines.
You're goddamn right
With Snowden all the way. The Government should be accountable to the people. Everything should be open to the public.... etc...
Not everything should be open to the public
+Spud Taipan Information should be open to the public provided it doesn't compromise our safety.
Exactly.
How does one define whether or not something is compromising safety?
Woh no not at all. Anything that's open to us is open to threatening forces. Imagine if insider information was granted to all share holders and stock brokers.
I should do homework. But Jeremy is way too fun to watch
Same! I got an essay to write but Jeremy Jahns > College in terms of priorities XD.
Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow?
+Jeremy Jahns 😱😱😱😱 Jeremy is looking at the comments
***** Classic reply Jeremy! You're my favorite movie reviewer by far. Keep up the great work!
Holy crap. Jeremy responded to a comment. This is friggin awesome
I absolutely agree with what the guy did. Governments shouldn't be allowed to spy on individual citizens without a warrant, let alone the entire population.
They have to have a judge signed warrant to listen in on phone calls and read emails of US citizens.
Whether you believe they do that or not, it is written in law that they have to have a warrant.
welcome to the age of the Patriot Act where everything's messed up, and the 4th amendment doesn't matter
+Nathan Brinkerhoff They had a general warent
condomsnconstitution If I as an American citizen was emailing an bomb maker in Syria. The government knows that I am in contact with a terrorist. They would need a general warrant to read my emails because they don't know what are in those emails.
In the eyes of the government, being in contact with terrorists is probable cause for search and seizures. I would have to agree with that.
nbdyhome1 Hey bud. The 4th Amendment protects against Unlawful search and seizures. A warrant is in every sense of the word a lawful act.
Is it a good movie to watch when you're snowed in?
lel
Boo
-.-
lol
Yeeeeeeeeeeeah!
tbh i think you're a pretty cool guy and we should talk more
LOL
Wat
I remember saying the same thing to Tom Hanks. That bastard never did call me back.
Slide into my dms instead.
Wrong website
If you tied this dude's hands, he couldn't say a word.
lol true
for some reason hearing that loyalty question reminded me of metal gear solid peacewalker.
you're hot
you mean Snake Eater.
Totally agree with you governments should fear the people. And I think Snowden is it patriot no matter what the corporate media shows him as.
Is this a movie about people who live in Snow Dens?
I have osteoperosis
nofacekaiju I have crippling depression
What are you fucking gay?
#nochin
hi Alex lol
With all this loyalty talk, anyone thinking of MGS3?
What about you, Jack? What's it going to be? Loyalty to your country, or loyalty to me?
"Not for honor, but for youuuuuuuuuu *Snake Eater*"
Didn't try to ape your comment, as I made the same one. But yes, MGS3 all the way
Kevin White Really?
Didn't see it
nope because there's no nano machines
Does anyone have that Jack Black clip he refers to at the beginning?
Just watch the trailer to "School of Rock".
***** Oh thanks, Jeremy.
no dont
"This is Ned Schneebly!" love that scene he'll love the whole movie
Just watched School of Rock again today for the 900th time.. I need some help. Step off!
I am completely for what Snowden did. I mean come on the government needs to answer for what it does.
Jeremy. You are the last hope to join the Avengers in taking down the Deathstar before they kill Harry Potter on his trip to Narnia. Do you accept your mission Mr. Jahns,
at least you tried
Random =/= funny
That's subjective.
I first started watching all his interviews, then Joe Rogan podcast, then I watched citizen four... Now watching this. I know I'm late to know about what he did... Hero in my eyes for sure!
I'm later than you and totally agree with you
Edward is a hero. Like Jeremy says, the government should be held accountable for whatever they do if it affects the people
So you do watch Last Week Tonight.
Le smug progressive European man
Last Week Tonight is a stolen concept from the UK with a presenter from the UK - typical America...
John oliver is THE BEST
+Tom Monty you're a fucking idiot
+zach ballard It's 2016.
Such a slow movie month. Haven't had enough Jeremy for a while.
Can't wait for November/December and the return of the Blanket. XD
GI snow
A real american hero
Remember kids knowing is half the battle
PLEASE REVIEW STRANGER THINGS. IT HAS BEEN REQUESTED A LOT, BUT IT'S WORTH IT!!
I'm guessing you've already watched stranger things. haven't you already formulated your own opinion on it by now? do you really need Jeremy to give his opinion lol
+Salsa Verde We wouldn't be here if we weren't interested in his opinion.
ikr? its so lame begging someone to review some shit just to form their own opinion. how long season one has been out for? on top of that over 20+ youtubers already reviewed it. people need to just let it go
+Salsa Verde probably doesn't need it, but is interested in it. No fault in that.
+Dracoblade I don't see the point in watching a review of something I've already seen myself. I like to watch Jeremy's reviews before seeing something to ascertain whether or not it is a good expenditure of my time. I don't watch his reviews of films I've already seen because by that stage I know how it is for myself. lol
Edward Snowden is a courageous person and a hero.
Will you be doing a review on this past Arrow season?
I will!
Dogshit
Just about to sleep,J...🤔
Doesn't matter...I will always support you,bro.
review stranger things? xD
i second this
I third this
Can I fourth this?
I fourth this
i fifth dis..
Been watching your videos for years, mate! love the content! Keep it up! Hoping I will see you review a film of my own one day!
Got excited because I didn't realise this was coming out so soon, then realised it's not out in the UK for a month 😩
I was gonna go watch this movie Friday, but my house is snowed in.
Jeremy my man please watch the South Korean film Train to Busan.
Do not check it, just know it is like Snakes on a Plain, but instead of a plain it is a train with zombies in it.
JUST WATCH IT, and review it, you'll never regret it.
*Plane

+Eugene Monotilla Dhêrpÿ Dūrp*
i heard this was awesome but i'm in the UK and no cinemas are showing it and i can't download it from anywhere :(
+jherrenor check facebook
Love your work and your reviews. Sometimes I do get distracted because the camera cuts off enough of your sleeve that I think someone else is pretending to be your hands, it adds another level of awesome if you think that the whole way throught.
"What's it going to be? Loyalty to your country or loyalty to me? Your country or your mentor? The mission or your beliefs?"
Jeremy got real close to busting out the Boss' speech in the beginning
its not the government that make the country, its the people who do. snowden is a hero
I definitely want to see this film.
The true heroes are the ones that sacrifice themselves for others.
I love these reviews so much, Jeremy always gets it right. This movie is made to make people aware of the issue and ask the important questions, keep the "debate" (awareness) going. This subject must not be forgotten, shady surveillance from the Five Eyes is still happening.
The best movie about Snowden is definitely Laura Poitras' Citizenfour though. You can can watch the actual events unfold as they were happening. The suspense is incredibly real. Say what your want about Snowden, what he did was important and it took balls of steel to go through with it.
Nice on mentioning the Jon Oliver interview, I watched it before seeing the film and managed to learn alot on Snowden as Oliver managed to mix both humor and seriousness in the interview.
Check out Citizenfour, really good Snowden documentary
YES! A REVIEW OF THIS MOVIE!
Joseph Gordon Levitt sure loves his biopics lol
There are times where I'm speaking around friends and I have to stop mid sentence or pretend to stutter while I think of a smooth transition to another subject that isn't classified. It can be difficult maintaining relationships when being so quiet so often, however, people understand and they've come to accept it.
Watchout everyone the comment section is being watched
Stay awike?
Stay awike?
*Blows whistle*
Has Oliver Stone actually made a good film since JFK or Natural Born Killers?
Nixon ...and thats it.
w
nick monts Oh God what a snooze fest
any given sunday
I really enjoyed Savages
Jeremy love you're vids dude! Keep it up! Btw will you be watching the new season of walking dead?
Anyone else thinks about The Boss' speech in MGS3 "Loyalty to the end" when Jeremy talked about "loyalty to your country"??
Snowden is a patriot. I say Buy it on Blu-ray
Transparency 4 sure.
Can't say for the movie, but I can say that I consider Edward Snowden to be an American hero. The surveillance program that the NSA ran/continues to run is a complete violation of the 4th Amendment's ban on warrantless searches and seizures, and I'm proud of him for having the courage to expose that. What he did isn't espionage or treason; it's whistleblowing, which is/should be protected under US law. In fact, we used to celebrate when that happened. I'd like to see Snowden given a full pardon and allowed to return to the country with no penalty. Yes, what he did is illegal, but it's pretty much a given that he's endured enough to earn time served.
I use to do similar work as Snowden. I helped develop long range optical facial recognition. I quit doing that work bc it became completely against my moral code. I am now an Electrical Engineer that is a cable contractor.... so I now help the world connect to people like you my good sir. I watch all of your videos (my wife hates your voice for some reason???) so if I am watching in bed gotta have the headphones. BTW, you're AWESOMETACULAR!
Snowden is giant fucking hero. There's nothing more American then putting yourself on the line to protect the people and while he didn't do this with a gun he still protected its people for incredibly shameful and disgusting acts by OUR own government. Snowden is a hero!!!
nope nope nope what the US government did was so wrong and good on Edward Snowden!
There's no scientific or investigative basis for that opinion. So... no...
Without representation? I think not.
***** It's not their jobs to track us, It's called freedom bud.
***** Freedom when under surveillance is not freedom in the slightest. And what restricts them? How will you know when they intervene? You don't, there is no due process, no justification, and no representation. It is a violation of the U.S. Constitution and a Violation of personal privacy. They had no right to do what they did.
*****
1. You're trying to justify the violation of American freedom that got us here today with a false sense of security.
2. You simply can't know that, there is no line or restriction. Once you give them that power and right, you can never get it back. Just because you trust them today, does not mean that they will act in your benefit with that power later on down the road.
3. Again, you're justifying the violation of American freedom for a false sense of security. Therefore, you deserve neither.
Jahns my man! I've been a long time fan and always value what you have to say about movies since you're usually spot on! You're good people. However, the media sort of took this Snowden thing and ran with it back when it happened. They played on people's fears and lack of knowledge on the subject and ran with it for ratings. That being said, they were wrong and Snowden was wrong.
I served 8 years in the active duty army and held a Top Secret clearance the whole time (still do) and worked directly with the NSA working missions, in a job very similar to Snowden's. Here is where he is wrong and frankly, was just an ostracized screw up who wanted attention and fame:
1. The NSA is in charge of handling foreign adversaries, not domestic. I'm not saying there are no times when the NSA needs to look at someone who may hold a dual citizenship with their native country and the US, it does happen, but that isn't their focus. Its actually the FBI who handles US citizens as a rule though (so be mad at them if anyone! jk)
2. There are many safeguards in place to keep NSA employees from rampant spying on those not involved with their specific mission. For one, we need specific authority granted to us to "spy" on US persons and it is not easily won. We also have things called auditors and secondary auditors who monitor our activity and would bust us if we, say, spyed on our ex-girlfriend. Auditors are people who we don't know personally and wouldn't feel an affinity to keep us safe, they do their jobs.
3. Snowden not only broke laws with what he did, he actively damaged the United States Intelligence's Mission. Here's a true story about a target of mine. X was a dual US and foreign country citizen. X was the leading general of this foreign government's army, and was leading it in X's native, foreign country. It still took us a week every month to dig up enough reasons for the granting authority to let us continue to target X because of X's dual citizenship with the US. That was a week of down time where we couldn't follow X and see what was going on. Does it sound like that is a good idea? Does it sound like that authority was protecting US citizens? No, however after Snowden things have gotten SOOO much more difficult for us to do our job.
4. Snowden also released names of US citizens who work to defend our country from foreign adversaries. He released these names to our enemies who want to see us killed or at least hindered by cyber attacks. Does that sound like a hero to you? He deserves his monocle of traitor and deserves no sympathy from anyone. He dug his own hole and now he has to live with it.
I'll get off my soapbox now. Hopefully that can shed some insight. Oh and also, we can't just hack into webcams and start spying around the room...this movie was so exaggerated it isn't funny. It's like watching Enemy of the State and treating it as a documentary.
He's a hero in the eyes of those who nitpick what he leaked.
He knew that foreign governments would not be interested in him unless he had something to offer.
What he gave them was the private information of thousands of government employees and gave them secrets that helped no one but himself.
If he truly loved his country he would have turned himself in. But the common trend among traitors is that they keep running away from responsibility.
notification squad assemble!!!
Hell yeah!
Snowden's actions did not make us any safer. It informed us of what's going on but there's a reason why insider information isn't released to every share holder and stock broker in the world. People with evil intentions can no longer be stopped nearly as easily now that they are aware of the wiretapping. Now let's say Snowden released this information due to some misguided sense of morality. I'd respect him for it even if it doesn't exactly benefit us. But realistically, after a bit of light research, it's pretty clear that a desire for attention was a very big part of his motivation. This along with his running away from the consequences of his actions makes Snowden appear as a pathetic coward more so than a "hero".
I kinda understood him what he'd done. The government was not fair to do something like that. He was angry and wanted people know what the government did. He thought he was a hero. But no he wasn't. He didn't even think about the effect in the future and god damn Russia. He did everything for nothing.
You do realise that no terrorists have actually been caught by these programs right ?
There was the one guy who funneled like 300 or something dollars to someone affiliated with terrorists , and that's not exactly what you call stopping a terror plot
+darthekul1 how could you have possibly known how terrorists were stopped while the country was still unaware of the wiretapping
www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/nsa-phone-record-collection-does-little-to-prevent-terrorist-attacks-group-says/2014/01/12/8aa860aa-77dd-11e3-8963-b4b654bcc9b2_story.html
NeonTime if terrorists were stopped , it would have been national news
Spot on comparison to the jack black movie school of Rock. Such a fan and always love your reviews !! Keep up the great work Jeremy :)
That quote from "V for Vendetta" is a version of something also quoted from Thomas Jefferson:
"When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty."
I didn't need them to get to the whistleblower part sooner because I saw that in the news and the aftermath. I found his time leading up to that more interesting because you know, it's all classified.
Can't wait to see if you do a review on Hacksaw Ridge, Jeremy.
Dude, I stumbled across your channel because of your FFVI review and I loved it, as well as the one on Chrono Trigger, so I subscribed! Could you do a review of FFIV aka FFII US? Pretty Please!
that lil punch at the end has to be deadly by now 👊
Government exists for the people and that is where loyalty should lie
I'm morally okay with what he did.
I agree with Jeremy and V, because what is a country without its people ?
Plus, no matter how big a government becomes, we the people will always outnumber them
Where my notification squad at?
Yo
As soon as I heard the School Of Rock reference, I knew you were officially my favorite reviewer.
Hey Jeremy, been a fan since your warrior review
Loyalty to your country to me is loyalty to the Constitution and the laws and rights of such country, making sure both government and citizens fulfil their role is to me patriotic.
It's midnight here, I have to be at work at 5:30. I was getting ready to go to bed, and oh what's this, Jeremy posted a review. Okay sleep can wait 10 more minutes.
Did Jeremy forget about Woodley's performance in Fault in Our Stars
"Benedict cumberbleach" I laughed way to hard
I'm always glad to see a video from Jeremy, even if it's a movie I'm not interested in.
Hey Jeremy have you ever been in contact with the Screen Junkies people? You'd be a helluva addition to movie fights
Citizen Four already tackled Snowden's story--it's a documentary with him in it--and it's fantastic. Haven't seen this film yet, but I'll probably catch it at some point on home video.
lmao damn it I can't see the damn trailer without hearing that jack black Mr schneebly voice in my head 😂😂😂
GOOD TIME NO ALCOHOL AT MATINE PRICE!!! Jeremy, this should be an official rating between no alcohol and if you're drunk!! Make it happen!! It's so needed!
Im glad Jeremy that you are somewhat awake and can at least see how things are bad with our govt thats our of control and can see what the movie is doing but i understand if you think its boring but if you watch the documentary Citizenfour and the small Documentary Terminal F you would understand more to answer more of your questions. Im proud of you that you are for the citizens and have some intelligence and not just a movie critic. And i do take most of your opinions and consideration as a basis of going to see a movie. Thanks bro
As soon as I heard 1:09, knowing his love of the franchise, I could have sworn Jeremy would quote The Boss.
is the film edited in oliver stone's signature style?
(pre-alexander of course)
because if so i might see this.
hello I am fan of your review, but I have been waiting for your train to busan review, and king glaive, for so long now.
Loyalty belongs to the people as the government is to serve your fellow man.If loyalty were to the government the government wouldn't have much of a reason to keep serving you at all.
I think Snowden has more balls than most of us for putting himself on the line like that and he will always have my respect.
Hey Jeremy, i know this movies are old, but i would LOVE to see a review of Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal from Steven Spielberg. Thank you!
So, is Citizenfour a better watch for that edge of the seat stuff?
How were the performances and directing?
How it's not out till Friday?
September can't end soon enough when it comes to films.
Props for the v for vendetta quote. One of my favorite movies
what interview@
"CumberBleach"...
...hold it in, you're in public -- i can't I'm sorry...
When you stop trying to sleep to watch one of Jeremy's reviews
V was actually paraphrasing Thomas Jefferson... dude I am British and I know that :P For shame!!!!!
"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny"
Hey Jeremy are you by any chance bringing back Classic horror reviews, just wondering?
