I know everyone brings up the fact that Mystra may have groomed Gale. But no one talks about how she effectively told a depressed guilt ridden man with suicidal thoughts to kill himself? She KNEW what he had been going though, knew of his guilt, his attempts to keep the orb at bay, his isolation, lonelness, and plans to end his life. She NEVER once stepped in to explain the truth. Only when it was convenient for her own ends, did she bother to reach out to Gale. And yet if Gale doesn't go through with using the orb, SHE has the audacity to get pissed at him? While I'd never make Gale a God. It was very cathartic to see him tell her to shove it!
Thank you for pointing that out... That wasn't ever lost on me. Truth be told, this playthrough's sole purpose was just to try to get at Mystra. Her cruelty is waved away by Elminster, telling Gale that this is okay when it clearly isn't. I was so mad at both of them, I made this durge just to challenge them.
It gets worse if Gale actually goes through with the insane request. Not only does he die a rather gruesome end, but the whole party dies along with him and the enemies. Not to mention that without a Netherbrain to control the tadpoles that live within the infected victims, the Sword Coast becomes infested with newborn mind flayers - enslaving/enthralling or turning any uninfected survivors that can find. ...but at least the weave is safe. XP
Nah don't encourage my power hungry baby 😅 but seriously that aside this reminds me that even Gale's bad ending of him being a God means he ascends you with him as a Goddess, his equal in every way. He truly loves you and makes good on his word. Meanwhile Astarion that people are obsessed with makes you little more than a slave and talks to you like one if he ascends and he's not even a God. I'm sticking with Gale always cause ain't no way... Oh and also I hate Mystra so much, stop grooming young mortal wizards and go back to Elysium you witch!
I agree. I think that if Gale and Astarion were real people that we knew in real life, Astarion would be largely disliked. Gale has green flag after green flag going for him. Somehow Astarion works in-game, but I think in real life he would be almost insufferable. These traits he has of enjoying seeing cruelty done to others, his selfishness, etc are real quite awful when you think about it. Meanwhile Gale will approve when you commit self-less, heroic acts and help people in need out, without being the stick up the butt about law and order like Wyll can be. Not saying he is perfect by any means, but I think people are fooling themselves when they think Astarion wouldn't be toxic af outside of the game world.
@@pipwolverine Oh Astarion irl would be a major creep! I keep him with me in game because his storyline is interesting and I like his running sarcastic commentary (and I need a rogue) but he's always friendzoned and never ascended. He also hates 90% of my actions since I tend to play my saves on the good side cause I'm not hurting kids or slaughtering Tieflings for vampire approval... Gale irl would be indeed a green flag king. He truly loves, respects & values you and even his biggest red flag (his excessive ambition) stems from low self esteem which is incredibly relatable. You can easily convince him that you want him as he is and that he's more than enough and he gives up actual GODLY powers to please you!!
@@ranar.582Couldn't agree more with everything you said. That's what cements Gale as my favourite romance in the game. Not to mention the "soul-bonding" scene in the weave in Act 2 actually made me cry, it was so beautiful. With Gale, it's like someone looked inside my mind, saw exactly what I want in a man, then manifested it as reality. Astarion has a lot of sex appeal, but he would be such a bad influence in real life.
@@pipwolverine I get what you're saying completely, Gale IS perfect. He's not so uptight and rigid like Wyll as you said, he has some spice to him but not as evil and selfish as Astarion (who kidnapped actual children for Cazador and didn't even care) He's the perfect balance (plus he's more good looking than Astarion imo). I too love the astral scene with Gale and it did make me incredibly emotional but now I prefer the alternative scene (where he conjures a bed) cause it seems more natural to me when I'm convincing him that he's enough. Plus I melt for some reason when he says "the old ways then" 🥵 knees weak and all lol.
Gale seems to be about lifting others up in every version of himself, while Astarion tells you exactly what to expect from full Vampires in Act 1 and that is exactly what you get when he ascends. Non-Ascended Astarion is a decent person though and a good partner. His graveyard scene and the morning after dialogue about the meaning of power and freedom were the major impulses for me to turn down the Crown on Origin-Gale.
Ah! There's the missing piece of the puzzle. I was wondering when the "I don't want to become a god, I want to better them" from the boat journey changed to wanting to become the God of Ambition or any kind of god.

I wish there was an option to be rude af to Mystra and put her in her damn place without having to go for the god Gale ending.
@@pipwolverine me too!
@@Kimbersism Just give me DLC where I get to kick Mystra's ass and I will die a happy woman 🤣
